how honest are you really? if you were walking behind someone and they were to drop some money, would you pick it up and give it to them or would you just keep it, and have the " finders keepers" attitude? maybe the store clerk gave you too much money back would you let them know, or keep quite? if you were in any situation like the ones i just listed how honest will you be about the situation? thanks, any and all feedback is welcome.

I think this is a good conversational topic, and without trying to sound like I wouldn't be honest because I have been many times I don't think there are very many people if anyone who would openly admit that they would take it. Pathetic enough for those that do they obviously know it is wrong or they would admit that they would take it.

If I were walking behind someone and I see them drop money, I couldn't take it, I'm too honest. You never know what the money could be, or if its their last in the world. Being able to put a face on the person that lost it, I really couldn't bring myself to keep it.
Now, if I found money on the ground, and didn't see who dropped it, that money is mine!!! lol.

lol, i know what you mean. yes i see your point on why you would tell that person if you saw who it belongs too. if you decide to keep it you could be taking food out of some childs mouth, or making someone lose their home, you never know what the case may be. thanks for replying have a great day.

Actually I think about those type of things whether I saw the person drop it, or I just found it on the ground. The only problem with the latter is you can't exactly go around and ask "Who lost $20?" lol.

No, if i see someone drop the money i would surely give it back to them. Even if the store clerk gave me some extra cash i would return it back. I dont think i should keep somebodys hard earned money as i am not entitled to it. but if i find cash lying on the ground and there is nobody to claim it ,then probably i would keep the cash or donate it to somone in need. God has given me hands and legs to earn money for myself so i would not think of taking others money for my own.

you are right about that. there needs to be more people like you. yes alot of people will do the same as you, but there are some people out there that would keep the money and just keep quite about it. it's best if you let that person know, i mean you wouldn't want people to do it to you. thanks for responding, have a nice day.

There is no question, I would let them know they dropped the money (one day I lost my entire paycheck it was like 600 bucks, it was Christams money, toys for my son) No one even told me I had dropped it, So I would ALWAYS let someone know.
If a store clerk gave me too much change, I would let them know, it happens alot actually. But think about this, that person made an error, and 9 out of 10 times, that person would have to pay it back, or possibly lose their job.
I would definately give make something that did not belong to me, one, because it is the right thing to do, and two, because it has happened to me, it doesn't feel very good!
Have a great day!

i agree with you. i can't see myself keeping something that didn't belong to me. if i saw someone drop their money i would let them know, i couldn't just pick it up and keep it like everything is fine. afterall if i did then at some point it will happen to me, and i won't like that. it's always great to be honest. thanks for responding have a great day.

Well shontia08 both the questions you have put forth before me has happened to me already. And trust me i was honest.
While standing in the queue at the ticket counter someone dropped their money down and no body kind of noticed it but i did. So i picked it up and gave it to the owner and he was very thankful. There are couple of other case in the bus or college when someone dropped their money i gave it back.
Sometimes the shopkeepers being too busy miscalculate things and give back extra cash. Once i had an incident where i paid a 100 note the shopkeeper thought i paid a 500 note and returns back about 405 bucks back to me and i was like excuse me i gave u just 100 bucks Lolzzz.... and he told me oh my god its so nice of you to be honest.

it was nice of you, and it was the right thing to do. i'm not sure about a store clerk, but if you saw someone drop their money and told them about, in some cases they will just tell you to keep it. honesty has it's rewards, it's best to get rewarded by karma instead of rewarding yourself by keeping the money without saying anything. thanks for the reply, have a great day.

many times I have come across the store clark situation. I always have to give back the money. For one if i take the money i will not be able to sleep as i will constantly be thinking about my actions and for another I try to live life by the principle Do onto others as you would have them do to you.

I'm honest. People work too hard to earn what they have and I won't keep something that isn't mine. I have seen people drop money when at the casino and I picked it up and handed it to them. I charge everything when I go to the store and don't often pay much attention. When I get home if I see the store made a mistake, I forget about it. Too much of a hassle to run back and forth. This also means if it's a mistake where I was charged a few cents extra. I won't go back and bother with it.

I really like the questions you have chosen and think they will challenge people and make them think. I always like to be honest and hope that I would do the right thing. I have been in these situations and always acted honestly I always declare I have too much change when the clerk gives it to me. I pick up peoples belongings if they drop them and I see I will always give them back. People are usually very thankful and it makes me feel good about myself that I did the right thing.
Usually the shopkeepers overcharge me so I have to ask for my money back but, on the occasions I do get extra change I always give it back. One day we went into Adams clothes shop and my daughter was very young. We went out of the shop without realising that she had picked up a cap. So we got half way across Town and I realised what was in her hand and on the cap it had written "Wicked" which was kind of funny because it summed up what she was by taking the cap. Although she didn't realise because she was too young. I was really worried that I would get shouted at or accused of theft by taking the cap back cause you hear these stories of it happening, but I had to do the right thing and take it back. The staff were actually very nice to me and said how other people wouldn't have done the right thing. I had to do that though.

wow, the world would be a much nicer place if we had more people like you. it do make you feel better when you do the right thing. i'm glad the clerks were sweet about you returning the hat, in some cases if they had reacted differently it would have made some people not want to return the item. thanks for replying, have a nice day. if i could give two best responses i would give you one, but i already gave it earlier. thanks again.

Hi shontia08.
For me personally if I was to walk behind someone and they were to drop their money I would hope being a Member of The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, that I will be an example of the Church and be honest.
I have been in this situation before. I had been at my course I was doing at the time, I had gone for Lunch and low and behold there was this $20 and I picked it up and then some of my co-workers/ the other people on my course did too, I said I was taking it back to the Police Station and cos it might be part of someone's benefit. I put took it back to the Police Station and so did they too, I am so glad I did too cos it was an Older Lady who had lost her whole benefit and she would have had no money for the whole of that benefit week. I like I said was glad that I did cos I knew I had done something good by being Honest, I had given that Lady the opportunity to be able to spend her own money and also she was able to know that there was at least one person who was honest enough to take it to the Police. She came to course and talked to our Main Tutor and in turn was requested by her that she somehow show that she'd appreciated the money being returned. I remember the gift and I still have got mine. I am soooo glad that I was able to not only be an example of the Church but also be an example of how I was raised up to be Honest also. The gift was little ornament of a cat curled up getting warm and trying to go to sleep. I love it, I really do. I sometimes have memory loss and ask My Mum what it is and where it came from and then she reminds me and so I am always glad that I can look back on that time as a honest time rather than feeling guilty and so on and so forth.
Catch ya later

that was really nice of you and your friends. i'm glad you all did what you did. hopefully someone will see this and think twice before they decide to keep the money for their self. you never know what that person was going to use the money for, not to mention that it don't belong to you, so yeah it's best to retun it. one day the same thing could happen to you, and if you had decided to keep it, then the peson who had picked up the money you lost could have decided the same thing, (karma), and you would have been out of your money. so i totally agree with you. you post reminds me of the saying " do unto others as you will like others to do unto you". thanks for leaving a response, have a great day.

hi shontia08 yes indeed I would pick it up and run up and
tell them you dropped your money as it was not mine. I am honest and it has a number of times really paid me back. I dropped
]my checkbook with my Vons card in it in Vons store, and did not realize I had lost it until I was home. Some short elderly
hispanic man came to our door, and asked if I was Mrs. Patsie
Hatley then handed me my check book and my Vons card. I was
so surprised and so appreciative. another time I mislaid my
billfold at college and an honest student turned it in to
the student affairs center. every dollar and cents was still
there and I got the name of the student so I could thank him.

I would give it back to them if I seen them drop it, I would hope someone would do the same for me. One time we went to the bank to cash my husbands paycheck, actually he had a couple of them to cash. We deposited some in the account and kept some out for cash, when we drove away, we counted the money in the envelope, and there was double what she should of gave back to us, there was about 800.00 extra in the envelope, we immediately went back and let her know what she had done, she was grateful, we could of easily kept it and not said anything, but she would of gotten in trouble for it, and probably had it taken out of her paycheck or something. We always count the money first now before we drive off. Its good to be honest with things like that, plus it would be on my conscious forever.

Well when it comes to money I try to be as honest as possible. If there is more than the extra change I gladly return it because I know that it's hard earned money too. I can't stand the guilt of not returning the money that is worked hard for by a person.

yes, guilt would weigh me down. i don't think that i could sleep at night knowing i did someone wrong, not knowing what the money was for would keep me worrying even if i knew what the money is for it would still be hard for me to keep, knowing that it's not mine. i was raised to be honest. i agree with you also. thanks for responding, have a great day.

Honesty can be called voluntary, I believed that there is a karma will come if you have no good deeds for your life. Many people are tempted for that money but many people are not honest enough to do that. For me I would return the money because if you do that, luck will come to you and blessing will welcome at you, I experience people that if you drop your money, they would'nt tell you if they found it.

i know that the majority of people would agree with you, but there are a few who have responded that makes it seem like it would be a hard thing to do. actually it's not. if you do the right thing then good things will happen to you. someone said it depends on the situation and if things weren't going to well in your life then alot of people would keep the money, well maybe if you would have done the right thing in other situations then so much bad stuff wouldn't be happening. i agree with you to the fullest. thanks for being a honest person, i just wish we had more people around like you. have a nice day. thanks for responding.

I believe i am honest enough to give the money to the person who dropped it and give the store clerk the over-changed money. The reason is because i have been taught to do this and i believe this is the right thing to do myself as well. I would always like to make my own money and not pick up other's money as my own or act up in a finder's keeper's attitude.

i know what you mean. i mean the people who would keep the money, most likely wouldn't go and rob a store or anything, keeping someone else's money when you know who it belongs to is just like stealing. i mean i could be wrong on this, but that's how i see it. thanks for being a honest person. have a nice day and thanks for leaving a reply.

Totally honest.....If I were behind you and you dropped money I definately would give it back....if someone was walking down the street and shortly after they passed a ten dollar bill came rushing by...well it might not be theirs so then it's finders keepers......I return money to someone who gives me too much change.

This may sound odd but i will not pick up money if i see it drop. i step on it and call to the person who dropped it. This way no one else can pick it up, and i don't feel like the person can accuse me of taking any of it. Now if i find money on the street and there is not a soul around i will pick it up. i believe that is a gift to me, meant for me, by the powers that be. :p
