Today we are celebrating Teachers Day in India. I take this opportunity to wish my teacher and all the teachers on mylot a Happy Teachers Day.
You gave me a warm hug on my first day of school
YOu held me tight and wiped away my tears
You taught me to read
You taught me to write
You taught me to sing
You taught me to dance
You taught me to smile
You taught me to be happy
YOu taught me to be a good student
You taught me to be a good daughter
You taught me to be a good friend
You taught me how to be a good wife
You never said you were too tired to explain a lesson to me ten times
You never complained of a headache if you had to read a lesson to me again and again
Thank you teacher for being a GUIDE
Thank you teacher for being a PHILOSOPHER
Thank you teacher for being a MOTHER
Thank you teacher for being a SISTER
THANK YOU TEACHER FOR BEING A FRIEND

Teaching is one of the most noble and best professions but the least paying. At least in this part of the world. But the teachers today do not get the kind of respect they were getting a decade or two ago. And very few of todays students want to enter this profession.

I completely agree with your views that it the 'teachers' while tell us how to shape in our life. It is they - who tell us, who to 'read', 'write' and 'communciate'. Their invaluable contribution in our life cannot be forgotten. The importance of a teacher and teaching will always remain very high. It is said that a 'Teacher' is next to God. There is an old peom of an Indian Saint Kabirdas which says that if you happen to face your 'teacher' and 'your parents' simultaneously, whom would you give preference. It is further said that - we must bow our head to the teacher and touch his feat, as it is he, who has made us a 'man'.
Good Post!

I completely agree with you that parents are also to be blamed, if students do not pay respect to their teachers. I always tell my kids that they must give respect to their teacher(s) and should not undermine his/her value. But I've seen some teachers are such that they teach in a very routine manner, hardly getting connecting to children, in the process they lose students' respect. Having said that teachers must always be respect, I believe.

It is very rarely that we see students bowing to touch the feet of the teachers nowadays. They do not respect their teachers as much as they should. Some o fthe fault lies with the parents and society too because very often we ourselves crib about the teachers and their way of teaching. So how do we expect the children to respect the same teachers?

How lovely to have a Teacher's Day in India, Mayka! My husband is a teacher, but in this country they seem only to be criticised. Our government does not value education the same way yours does, and has handed the responsibility of running schools to the principals - which just isn't working. At the moment, teachers are trying to fight for better conditions for the students' sake - for instance, they want qualified teachers for appropriate classes, rather than, for instance, an English teacher babysitting a Maths class because there is nobody else. Therefore the general public are inconvenienced when teachers strike, and call them lazy, underworked (long holidays) and overpaid. Happy Teacher's Day to all the teachers in India - and in the rest of the world, too!

Happy Teacher's DaY TO ALL.
This is special day. And I do hope that we develop a little more empathy and respect for the teachers. They are the most left out part of the society. I agree, teaching has become more of what they earn rather than the old values of imparting true knowledge. But there are still good, idealistic teachers who make a difference. And we grow thus. The society grow thus.
Thanks dear.

Yes. on 5th September in India we celebrate teachers day to comemmorate our great teacher Dr.Radhakrishan. Teachers have great role in each and every child as they make the child how to behave firstly. They show them the right path of life,as per their teaching we all grow up. Their loving care and their responsibility to guide us through books and texts all made us to cry when we were a students in X std farewell party. Even teachers were crying. Now my son and daughter carry gifts and flowers to give their teacher on this day. They enjoy a lot by cutting cakes and making small party. Thank you for starting this discussion and Thanks to my all teachers and the teachers on mylot.

A very good discussion, dedicated to all teachers. I always try to attend my school alumni meets and keep in touch with my teachers. All teachers are great in my opinion as they are the force behind our success. My mom has been a teacher for over 15 years. She never takes a day off saying 'my children need me' !! That's her passion as a teacher :)
