Have you ever been on any rides that actually hurt you?

The state fair is going on and it reminded me of the times I've been to amusement parks. I've been to Disney World, Worlds of Fun, Silver Dollar City, and several more when I was growing up. In Oklahoma City there is an amusement park called Frontier City. They used to have a roller coaster called the Wildcat. As a kid I went on it and my neck hurt for weeks afterwards. I thought I was just a wimpy kid. But as a teenager when I went with my youth group, I rode it again. And yep, it hurt my neck again. I went to the doctor and he diagnosed me with whiplash. I thought that was funny that a roller coaster ride gave me whiplash. A couple years later they shut down that ride. But I was wondering if you have been on any rides that actually physically hurt you? My dad can't even ride a Ferris Wheel because of the altitude. When his ear drum burst as a teenager it altered the way heights affect him.

Hi AmbiePam, I don't ride on fair ground rides much these days but the one ride I do remember getting hurt on was the bumper cars when I was in Portsmouth a few years ago, a car hit me head on and I couldn't get out of the car, my legs went numb and due to an accident I had years ago it had trapped a nerve in my lower back, I was ok on this occasion as feeling returned quite quickly but I will avoid now. Hi AmbiePam, Thank you for the best response, I really appreciate that. It was very scary not to be able to feel my legs again at that moment as after my accident in which I also ruptured my spleen as well as the pelvis and lower back I was determined to get back up again, so to think that yeasr later a bumper car ride could take that away again made me feel sick, but luckily it was only a few minutes or so. Here in the UK then people didn't sue or claim compensation much so the thought wouldn't have evn occured to me to do so. Ellie :D

These links tells of alot of accidents that happened due to either faulty rides or drunk, high or inexperienced workers. I haven't been on a ride in along time about 10 years possibly Out Painstville Apple Festival starts the end of Sept into the Oct 4th. But I don't think I will be riding any rides then either. I am wanting to but maybe next year. I can recall being so nauseated that I about threw up on several occasions on some of the rides the Tilt a world tilted and spinned so fast it made me dizzy and the only thing holding you in was the force of the ride and chains. and you holding on for dear life...I didn't know that the rides would bother our ears. My little sister had both her eardrums burst last year so I guess we better keep a eye on her if she does do a few rides this year.

No, I am lucky. I don't get to ride much these days, but when I do, I really enjoy it.
I think overall rides have gotten safer and yes I know accidents happen but when you consider the rides and the voulme of people, it is pretty safe.

Yeah theres a couple in the UK. The worst ones the cat and mouse at Blackpool Pleasure beach. Its a roller coster made out of wood, its way old and it creaks. The cars are for 2 people, the corners are almost square and it really bangs you around. i had lower back pain, bruises on my arms and legs, i even smacked my cheek of the rock solid side! I love rides though! best place in england is alton towers, the rides there are smooth and comfy! Woop!

I have been on few rides at all. My mom was a bit over protective of me growing up and we never went to fairs or amusement parks. Plus I have always been afraid of heights so I wouldn't have ridden on some of them anyway. The ones I have been on were pretty safe.

My choir group in highschool went to Six Flags for our end of the year trip. When I was there the first time I didn't have the chance to really ride a lot of rides so I got the chance to that day. We hit a lot if not all the roller coasters in the park. One of the last that we road was called the Mind Eraser.
Let me just say that thing erases your mind alright. It was a very rough ride. It made your head go back and forth and my ears kept hitting against the harness that goes over your head. I had a headache when I got off the ride.
Well, the next morning when I woke up, my neck hurt extremely bad. I didn't go to a doctor to get it checked or anything as it did stop hurting by itself. So I decided after that I would never ride that ride again.

I am not one that enjoys rides....never have. If there is any height involved you can count me out....and if it spins too much.....nadda. I have never been hurt physically by a ride.....but once back when I had a little more guts....I was riding the tilt a whirl and when someone got off they threw up....and it was a total chain reaction including me.

I think there should be some limits to those Tilt O Wheels. I mean, kids under 13 are much more likely to throw up. And please lord if they look like they just ate, don't let them on! My dad tells the story of going on one of those as a little boy and a girl threw up. It got him and his brother right in the face. Amazingly, neither one of them got sick themselves.

Heights and hanging upside down is totally out for me. I've never actually been hurt by a ride though.
Don't know if it is even still there but I remember years ago hearing of someone getting killed on the Fire In The Hole ride at Silver Dollar City. Not sure if it was true or just a rumor.

Yes I have, I went on a rollercoaster a couple of years ago at a local theme park in UK near to where I live called Alton Towers. It was one of the first rollercoasters that they ever built and I went on it when I was a kid and so decided to relive my childhood.
It was horrible, it was really jerky and every time it turned it would whack my head against the side and I could not control my head. It also jerked my neck that bad that I had a stiff neck for days after and when I came off the ride I had the biggest headache ever. Never again.

ambiepam years back I found out that I cannot go on rides that turn me almost upside down. when I was a young woman in college
I took a semester of tumbling and doing somersaults for phys.ed. well the minute I did a somersault I blacked out. Something pressed on my lungs and cut off my breathing. so I went to my college doctor who said you cannot do that sport. so I got excused and took swimming instead. well my one and only ride
on a roller coaster did the same thing. I woke up on the ground with paramedics reviving me with oxygen so never ever again.that was so scary. I did not go to the hospital but the paramedics told me to never go on a ride where I would be turned head over heels.

No, I've never been on a ride that hurt me. I grew up in Pittsburgh, where we had Kennywood and Westwood Parks. They both had awesome roller coasters. Westwood had the old wooden ones.
My first big roller coaster riding was at Cedar Point, though, in Sandusky, Ohio. I loved that.
And since I've been to amusement parks in Florida, Michigan and Texas. And I've been to Disney World. I loved them all.
Now, though, since I've had both a back and knee injury, roller coasters are out of the question. However...I have noticed that some now strap each person in individually and there's probably less throwing one from one side of the car to the other. I may just have to try one of the newer rides. Maybe here at King's Island...

Yes, since I have had surgery on my butt, every "ride" I go on hurts me. I go on simple car rides, and my poor butt hurts. As for amusement park or carnival rides, I have never been hurt on those.

Hi Ambiepam... Yup. There's was a roller coaster that I rode on when I was in town and it had loops and the coaster would go forward and backward as well plus it would suspend you in on the highest loop upside down. When I rode that, it was the scariest because I felt that I would fall off. Plus it was so rough that my head hit the safety harness several times and even knocked out my earring (I found out later on that my ear was bleeding.) After a couple of days, I noticed several bruises on my hip and arms. Needless to say I never rode that coaster ever again. Lol. I found out a couple years later that they had an accident with that ride because the coaster stopped on the loop and people were stuck hundreds of feet in the air upside down for an hour.

When I was over in Holland during the summer, went to a fair. Together with a new friend we decided to go on the dodgem cars. I was quite surprised that the operators allowed people to bump into each other head on. Also that we didn't have to go in one direction around the dodgem car arena. My friend and I got quite adventurous and went head on a few times. The last time we did this, our necks got a funny feeling - a kind of snick - so we got our money back for the remaining rides and didn't go on a ride again. Felt our physical health was too much to risk. It's now over a month since then and my neck seems to be okay... but will take more note of safety in the future... ...

Well, I've never had a ride physically damage me before, but I did get ultra dizzy on a certain ride (this machine that spins you round and up and down) and my legs felt a bit funny afterwards, and made me wanna give up my lunch. Otherwise, no permanent injuries.
