Losing internet connection

My internet is bundled with my phone and Direct TV and I have one of those little boxes that they give you for your DSL. I keep losing my internet connection, it happens any time of day or night, no special pattern to it. Sometimes it comes back on right away, sometimes it takes several minutes and sometimes I have to re-start my computer and reset the little box. I have called Qwest and they say it is not their fault, they have checked my lines at the house and they say nothing is wrong, it is not my computer since it is brand new, it is a Dell with Windows Vista.
Does anyone else have this type of a problem, what could it be that is causing this, it is getting irritating and annoying, maybe I need a new DSL box. Any ideas?

i think this is your problem......
remove the phone conection with which your dsl box came with.....
i mean connect only internet and remove the phone connection.......this will solve the problem.....
if u also want to use both of them simultaneously then dont connect them parallely.....
then you wont have any problem.....
hope this will solve your problem....
let us know abt the status........

My service provider actually has installed two different size ADSL splitter. My phone line goes in to the bigger splitter one line goes to the DSL modem then the other line goes in to the smaller splitter then goes to my wireless phone base. I should not be disconnected with these two and yet I still did. Can you help me out with this or DSL normally do disconnect.

Our internet DSL connection is through our phone company, A T & T. We have been having this problem off and on for months. Some days, we have no problem.Today, it's been constantly going off and on. We've had a new modem two times in the past months. We still believe ours is in our phone lines from outside our home to wherever the hub is that our DSL lines come from. We have a dedicated line right to our computer and there is nothing wrong with it - no filters needed on our other phones. It is so frustrating for this to be happening all the time. Before Bell South was bought out by A T & T, we weren't having these kind of problems. That's why it makes me think there is a problem on their lines. Getting them to check it out completely is another story.

My DSL which is bundled with phone also has the same problem. Though though the provider already added a line filter it just somehow reduced the frequency but it still disconnect from time to time and in occasions when someone calls me. What I would just to disable/enable the network icon in my notification area then reconnect, I very rarely do the reset the modem thing.

Try just resetting the box. If you do not have to reboot any of your equipment it could be the box. If you have to reboot your computer then it could be something on your computer. Also when it disconnects see if the WAN or DSL flashes. Also do you have filters on every phone line and TV in your home? I am sure they have checked this but it could just be a bad filter.

I have a program on my computer called Modem Diagnostic Tool, so I ran it, I ran a check on my Modem and it says that my modem is not detecting a dial tone. I have a dial tone on my phone, my modem works accept for the occassional disconnect or what ever it is. I check all of my connections and the all seem to be find and in the right plug-in spots. So now I am back to calling Qwest which is what the Diagnostic Tool site said to do if all else failed, it says it could be in the modem itself. I will see about calling them in a day or so.

its a fault with your service provider though they are not going to accept it because it will affect their name and reputations.
if u have a dsl box then it should be not the fault of yours.
there is a fault with the connection at your service station.may be due to faulty wiring.
this can be solved by your service provider only.
please contact the higher authority

have you checked to make sure you have all the dsl filters in place if they are not in place then when you use your phone it can take your DSL off line. also make sure yiour direct-tv box which is hooked to the phone line has a dsl filter on it also. this can cause the problem also

I too kept on losing my internet connection for no apparent reason. My brother told me that all he does is to turn off the modem and turn it on again which is kinda difficult for me to do since the modem is in his room and I just have a cable connecting to his network. I worked it out by finding the ip address of his modem and resetting it from my computer.

Don't worry, I don't have a spectacular internet connection as well. Most of the time it's well-behaved. But when it rain, my connection becomes choppy as well. And it's not as fast as the internet company promised it to be. Anyway, when I get fed up I just call the company and tell them about it. My connection improves right after but not for long. Maybe you should try to report a complaint as well. :)

I think I will just put in a complaint every time it happens, maybe they will get tired of hearing from me. LOL
It does seem to happen more when it rains than other days, when I called on that they came out to see if my lines were exposed and getting wet, and they say they are fine.

first try to ping your dns server, go to run type ping 202.78.97.41 -t and then look if it has timed out if the time out is too many call your internet provider it should'nt be like that. its ok to have timed out but not too many and too often, then try too ping your modem go to run type ping 127.0.0.1 -t and check the time it should be time

My first idea is to ditch Qwest! I have had a few friends that sign up for their internet and always end up at my house just to get their email. It is hilarious because it is satellite so it will go in and out. And personally I dislike Qwest because they always rip you off with something. So I can see your interent going in and out at least parcially because of Qwest.
Oh and each one of my friends have now switched from Qwest. (hmm seems a little funny since Qwest is going bankrupt, explaines a lot)
