I just deleted a "friend"

I use that term lightly because this person obviously had other motives when he/she requested to be my "friend". Immediately upon accepting this person's request, he/she spammed me with a money-making offer.
I, personally, don't see the messaging system her to be meant for such use, and I certainly don't appreciate receiving such messages. If I were to have requested that this person send me his/her referral link - that would be an entirely different matter, but this was unsolicited.
Do you agree that this is not an appropriate use of the system?

I realize that some that are here just to get referrals don't think so, but that is not the intended purpose of the site.

Yeah, I notice that too. I have also added someone here as my friend and send me messages about money making sites. I just ignore them, I'm well and good just reading and posting interesting topics here. I find quality in everything I do while I learn from other people here.

I think it inappropriate for them to the resources of the site in such a way. I also think that they're actually cheating on the program they are promoting because many of those will suspend you immediately if they learn that you are spamming.

Yes, it is an inappropriate use of PMs..
I think if I do not requset to receive such info then it shouldn't be sent to me, spammed enuff with email already..
I have had a couple of those PMs and I just DELETE! If I ask in a discussion for more info and the person sends me the info, it's all good..
I had one 'friend' that pasted a long list of sites and links in my comments area and I just deleted the comment, not deleted the user and now I do not even remember who it was..

I really think that in order for this site to prosper, we all have to help monitor those that are abusing it.

Newtondak,
I'm still new around here and so... I allow everyone that requests to be my friend
to "be my friend". I have noticed that I am getting a lot of spam in my normal
e-mail account, could that be from some of them? Rarely do I get a message in my inbox here so I'm not sure how things actually work.

I did accept everyone that asked until this happened - now I will checking more to see if they're only here to promote their programs.

I think that we have to make sure that this kind of thing isn't going on - by reporting, and by deleting the person that does it.

Unless the person has asked permission to pm me such messages, I tend to get a little infuriated with people who just add people and spam referral links galore, without even asking if that was something you'd be interested in.
I've only had that happen once since being here, don't even think the person that did it to begin with is even a member here anymore. Must have got fed up with no one joining his/her program...lol! Though it's something I have come to expect seeing as a lot of people on here (not all mind you) are just looking around for that quick buck, not caring who they annoy to get it.

If, so I haven't seen it yet. I know some that advise people to post in forums, and signatures as long as it abides by the forums terms of service. And as far as I know, most forums forbid members to spam other members and are usually banned if they get reported.

I think some programs may be promoting to people that they come here to post referral links and spam their stuff through the message system.

I definitely think it is an abuse of the site and is very disrespectful to others.

are we not here to make money are is your reason different for being here you may make a few friends here but the real goal is to make money maybe this is not your goal to make money. so to add a person here is to help you as well as them it,s called working together if iam wrong please tell me your goals maybe different.

Not all who are here, are looking for the benefit of making money. Sure it was what lured us here to begin with, but over time one can make some honest and forever friendships, if one is willing to take the time to do so. I don't even check my earnings anymore when I first log on, I just dive into the discussions, cause I like to talk (maybe a little to much at times..lol).
Besides I have a job that I make the real cash with, so any earnings I get from here or any other paying program gets matched with my own cash, and donated to a charitable organization or put into any fundraiser I might be doing at any given time.

I believe if you are here to make money, you will do so by the rules and not be spamming people. If I were to report this person to the program that they spammed, they would probably be suspended from the program because it is again the rules of most.

I do agree that this is an inappropriate use of the system, though at the same time I'm not one to delete someone off my friends list because of this. I will delete any messages and/or comments that they send me, but to me it isn't a reason to delete them. Now if they were causing a more serious problem, then I would delete them.

I wouldn't have thought as much about it if the first message hadn't been received immediately after I accepted this person as a friend.

If someone asks the other person to send then the link, then I think it's okay, but I don't think it's okay to ask someone to accept you as a friend just so you can spam them.

It is your personal feeling and you have the right to remove the particular person from your friend's list. I neither received any such mails yet nor send to anybody. People are using mylot for promoting their business also. They are not able to do it through discussions because mylot guidelines are against it. May be they are using the other method. We can't prevent the same but either just ignores it or simply deleting those people. All the best and Happy mylotting.

I think that many don't understand that it puts people off more than helps you when you send it unsolicited. If someone asks for it, they're interested, but if you just send it, it's probably going to just get deleted. I think it is an abuse of the site to clutter it up with that kind of thing.

Yes, good for you. I did delete two this week, and report them. I try to follow rules, everyone else should, too.

i would be unhappy if i am being scammed like that as well... i agree with you that the messaging system is not to be used for this purpose... especially if you are being bombarded with tons of links... that is really unacceptable... good on you for deleting this "friend"... i think i will do the same thing like you as well though i will give this person a warning first before i do that... take care and have a nice day...

I know that some people do that, and I would do that myself. I do sometimes ask for links or offer them, but I wait for people to ask for them. The message system is more for real messages that are not necessarily meant for the entire 144,000 members to have access to.

yea, I have been receiving email from a friend who newly requested me as one of his friend. I received about 3 emails after I approved his request but I did not mind it. I did reply a couple saying that I don't like it and I am not interested. I did not delete him but I wouldn't reply if ever again he will send me a link of his money making site. I could tell he needs some referrals but this is not the right place to look for it. He is doing the wrong move. lol

If I request their link, then that's okay, but if I'm not requesting it, and the only reason they are requesting to be accepted as a friend is to spam me, then I do not feel that they should be allowed to even remain on the site.

I have gotten a few of those too and I just ignore them. I am going to go thru my list and delete some of mines too most of them are the ones with just a few post next to their username so they are newbie mostly. That is why I am reluctant about approving them for friends.

It would be irritating to have someone scam you when you thought you were getting a new friend. I myself would just ignore it. Then again I don't have any friends on here and have yet to figure out how to make any. But, I can see why you were so aggrivated with it. I'm assuming that it isn't an appropriate use of the system, doesn't seem like it would be, but I haven't looked over stuff to see if its in the norm or not.

I would just ignore it, but I don't want to receive more spam messages and feel that this person abused the system.
