i have two names and i dont like my first name before..my first name is glessa- and my neighbors in the province pronounced it wrongly and i hate hearing them utter my name. but now, my friends already know how to pronounce it correctly and i find it very unique, so now its ok for me if they will call me by my first name.

Me too. I am angry when my name Frinces was spelled or pronounced as Princess. People assume that my parents gave me a name which was mispelled but the reason for having such a name is for mine to be unique because many people already have that name.

I can understand people getting upset that people cannot pronounce their name properly. It took me a while to learn to pronounce the names of some of the people I work with.
I am used to English names and long names that come from different cultures and languages can be hard for me to learn to pronounce and sometimes just a simple slip can be wrong.
I think in the case of a teacher it can be quite hard. Not everyone has language skills and teachers have a lot of students. Some foreign language names look very different when written to how they are pronounced and if you are not familiar with it you will get it wrong. I would be upset if it was deliberate but maybe if you explained to the teacher and corrected their pronunciation it might help.
Many teachers are quite happy to learn and may not even realise they are pronouncing the name incorrectly.

snpyvin hi yes Ido get angry as how hard is it to say
'hatley, not hadley, not hately, not hartley but hatley
now that is really easy, if I had wanted to be called'hartly or hately or hadley or hetley I would have changed my name to one of those names. it is hat ley see how easy that is to pronounce. now say patsie hatley. that is my name, very easy so please pronounce it right. thanks much.

I don't feel angry when someone has pronounced my name wrongly because we also cannot avoid that kind of mistake too. I also had experience of pronouncing name wrongly because the name was quite hard to pronounce actually. But if someone has pronounced my name wrongly,I will correct that person on the spot so that the same thing will not happen again.

I don't really get angry when someone pronounces my name wrong. But, if it's repeated time and again then it might get irritating. Due to diversity and differences, pronunciation will differ. So, mistakes till a certain limit is understandable. But, it will be very good if we can try to learn and make effort to pronounce different names correctly. It is really pleasant when a person from a different culture pronounces your name correctly, so there's no harm in making an effort.

I have a group of friends who ALWAYS pronounce my name wrongly. They are my high school and middle school friends. My teacher had tried to correct their pronunciation before but they still pronounced it wrongly. Initially, I found it weird to hear my name pronounced wrongly but after a while, I got used to it. People of other races (ie. Malay, Indian, Eurasian) tend to pronounce my name correctly. It's the Chinese who pronounce it wrongly. I guess they read the chinese han yu pin yin (chinese pronunciation) wrongly.

My name's more unique than others' so I don't mind if people misspell it. I actually expect a lot of people to misspell or mispronounce my name. But it becomes annoying when I've already corrected them and they still continue to make the mistake. It tells me that the person isn't paying attention. Or that I'm not important enough to warrant his attention.

what is anme my friend?
I don't feel mad when people mispronounce my name, I will correct them but sometimes it is very tiring to correct them like my nae is PEH but people here (a more popular version of it here is FE) and so people would say FE? oh no it is PEH, P E H ( I really have to spell it argh!) and then they would say , ah PHE. oh crap! so when they mispronounced it, I just let them be.

I will really angry. Its like killing me..Well not all our names are easy to spell. Those who had common names like mark, james, maria and edgar..those are common names we can always hear. We will not be wrong to spell on that. SO maybe if i had name maria i will be angry because it will be spell wrongly. Its so easy and then its wrong? Well its depends upon the name i think. I will give considerations anyway.

There is always a diversity occur even when the name Maria is easy to pronounce due to different between language and culture. For example like a Chinese guy pronounce an English name it would sound same and correctly pronounce like a English's guy pronounce it. See the different now?? Anyway thanks for responding over here and happy mylotting!!!!!!!!!

Quite a lot of people pronounce my name steven, which I don't mind as I've become used to it although it should be pronounced with an f. I have a cousin who is called Hal, I think it requires too much effort to sound the l in it so I just call him how, and I've heard quite a few other people say it as well.

my first name is easy to pronouce, while my last name is a bit harder.. when some of my professors pronouce it, they mispronounce my last name when they first heard it, but in the second time they know how to pronounce their name. i do not get angry when they mispronounce my last name...

I used to when I was growing up. People would pronounce it latte or lotta and it used to make me so mad. I'm like it's Latta not those other things. Now I am married but it did get better as I got older. People even mispronounced my married name and it's so easy to say. It's a freaking city in Vriginia!

Foreigners often pronounce my name wrong. However, I don't mind it at all. It's not English and how can I require them to pronounce a foreign language correctly? It's not fair. Usually I will just accept this wrong pronunciation. If they are my good friends, then I usually tell them how to pronounce my name correctly.

i have a pretty long name. most of the people pronounce my name correctly but very few can spell it correctly. it is very annoying as this makes you feel that people don't care on how they spell or pronounce other names.
