I was just put on synthroid. I had not symptom of tireness, ...etc. In fact I felt quite good. I'm wondering about my need to take this drug. I also was given the non-generic version and it is quite costly. I read online that the non-generic
is better. Have any of you developed thyroid problems? Have you gone off the medicine and later lived to regret it? Can you go off and then if you find you need it,...take it later. Do I sound distrustful of doctors!
I am interested in your experiences. walkgal karen

My mom takes synthroid now. She had problems with overdose so her doctor lowered the dose. I think if you had your throid removed just like my mom, you should be put on synthroid or other thyroid supplements regulate your thyroid hormones. Your body needs thyroid hormones so synthroid is used as a thyroid supplement. Changes in thyroid levels may cause different effects on your body so the levels should always be regulated. If you're low in thyroid levels then you can have hypothyroidism and otherwise, you'll have hyperthyroidism. Follow your doctor, he knows what's good for you. That's why you're paying him, right?

dzeanne, I disagree about blindly following the doctor's advice, since she said that she felt good before he put her on medicine for the thyroid.Doctor's are just human and they do make mistakes. My doctor did several tests on me before he prescribed medicines. If this doctor did not do the right testing before prescribing medicine to her, then she could be doing harm by taking it.
I think it is strange that your mom had problems with overdosing on the synthroid. They always start with the lowest possible dose and increase it till they get the levels in the normal range.
