Battle For The White House...

Maybe it’s just me but it seems like the whole Presidental race is more like a popularity contest. Who likes who, who’s smarter, who’s better looking, who lies better, who throws mud better. Since their campaign promises may or may not be upheld once their in office what else can you base it on. Maybe some of their past experience or maybe what they’ve done recently…and maybe they’ll continue to do good work once their in the White House.
What if we put them all together and had them battle it out like in the days of Ancient Rome? Not to the death mind you, but just till one side cried mercy. The winner would be the next President. We’d at least know they were strong willed not to mention that they would really have to want the job if they were willing to fight for it.
I had a little fun with my photo program and made a little pic of our candidates and the VP’s as they might look in Ancient Roman times…I wonder if they’d be game for the competition??
Do you think they’d still run if this were how we chose? Would you run if you had to battle it out to get in? Who do you think would win?

Hi everyone. I've just signed up today. And I'd thought I'd post my opinion.
I think the election race in the States is a lot more exciting than the politics over here in England. Obama is inspiring. I admit McCain is an old man, but then you have a feisty "Soccer mom" as potential Vice President. Does anyone abroad even know who the Prime Minister of England is?? Or the Deputy Prime Minister?? The English political system needs the excitement of the American system.

Hmm, you would have to put Palin up against Obamo or Biden against McCain, to make it a more fair fight.
I just wish that all they did was state the issues, list what they did AND didn't do in the past. Basically, be 100% honest. It's like resumés. How many people lie on those? Just tell the truth and let us decide.

Sorry can't view the photo yet as I am answering this from the email. But I am sure it is a good one. Well, Obama is slim and healthier it would seem and wouldn't get out of breath as fast, and he would appear to be the fastest one. I would say obama would when. He is sharp and would smart and strike fast and retreat and repeat till his opponent was done in for.

I just went and viewed the picture you made and it is really good. You should put it as the picture in place of the one in politics. It is very cute and you done a fabulous job.

Very cleverly done and not too far from the truth.

Obama is younger, but John McCain was a POW for 5 years. Seventy-two years old or not, my money would be on him. Especially since I saw his 96 year old mom. That woman didn't look older than her son, and she sure didn't act like she was any older than that.

It's always been a popularity contest, the issues are just decoration.
I remember when Nixon was running, people didn't like him because he sweated a lot during debates on tv. He wasn't a handsome man and almost lost because of it. If Lincoln or Taft or any other of our presidents had campaigned now, they wouldn't even make it to the final few before the convention because they weren't handsome guys. Women's suffrage in this age? Would never be, because the leading women were not even pretty by today's standards.
I like your idea but let me propose one more--if any president starts or enters a way, his nearest blood relative under the age of 55 has to be the first one on the front lines. If that person is killed, he has to replace him or her with another family member. I bet there wouldn't be too many wars involving this country! Oh yeah, and presidents would receive merit pay only and be barred from speaking engagements for ten years after leaving office!

if I remember correctly the romans had a system where senates would listen to campaigns and vote, maybe something similar I don't really know the political terms
why not the combination of both speech and physical attibutes? this way they will annouce its candidate like in boxing match: such as A this age that weight and height, achievements and bloopers, highest education vs B ...
this way even if they are not physically fit they still have a chance to win
not everyone is physically fit, but doesn't mean they are not mentally ready to run. it'll be interesting to see who runs and who wins because I think it will be big surprise not to mention fun

No you know what I have decided, they should take the 2 that wins the honor of beating all the rest and make the demo and the repub go together in the whitehouse and learn to work together as one,I'm sure they both have good ideas and maybe together they could find a way to fix the mixes that we have been put into. The mud slinging is just part of the process. I don't think it is mud, but just one side trying to impress on what they think the other side thinks or has done. but the way it is presented it looks like mud slinging. I have often wondered why a person would want the job as it don't really pay that much. I think each think he can go there and make a difference and when they do get there they find it isn't that easy to do the things they promise.
I'm sorry but I do believe that McCain has spent his life fighting for this country. I don't think he has voted with Bush on everything his voting record shows that he has fought Bush on many issues. As for Obama I can't find anything that he has really done for this country or even his district in Chicago. Either way no matter who won the battle would we still get the one that was good for us.

Hi Twoey--though I don't live in the USA what a BRILLIANT idea and I agree wholeheartedly with you how all they do is throw mud at each other, who lies better etc it would be great to see them battle it out like the Romans did..but even then it makes me wonder would they keep to their campaign promises maybe their should be rules for the winner too!! ..no I wouldn't fight for something like that maybe for animal rights though..blessings littleowl

i wouldn't run to start with no matter how u had to win. i'm no prude but u can't believe a thing any of them say. if they are good people when they go into it they are not good people when they come out. to be honest i don't know why any of them want it to start with. whoever gets it will never straighten out bush's mess.

Hi twoey68,
to be honest wuth you I am so bored with all this politics and I wish they will get on with it instead of slinging dirt at each other and concentrate on how tey will run the country for the good of the people, so I'm just bored with it all.

I think all these nonsense campaigns started when there were only these two guys ended up as the final candidates. Until then they were more concenterated upon their manifestos and policies as how its going to benefit people. But once the race between these two guys started...it was like a street fight attacking each other as what flaws they find in another ones. They have lost dignity now.....and they fight with the only aim of entering the White House. So it is going to be the same situation when any of them enters it....They just want the ultimate power...Even their secondary aim is not serving people

If I'm physically fit and I know I have what it takes to fight, why not? We are talking about the White House and leading one of the powerful countries in the whole world.

I don't think putting them in a ring to battle it out would prove who would be the next best president. We always vote for the one who will make things best for us and not bring the world down. I would not run whether or not it is a battle or just a regular election. I'm no dummy. haha
