yes when i had shifted to a different house i had this problem but at that time i was not knowing mylot and just imagine i am from india i had no cable, no internet and nothing for my timepass, it was really very difficult but only son was with us so that we could spent time with.
i can really understand whats the condition when there is no internet, i feel very lonely and as though in isolated place.
only thing less is going mad, dont you think so?

I have had it happen but it only lasted a couple of hours. I usually go around and check all the phones, and DSL Filters to make sure they are good. make sure the phone line is working. I also make sure that nobody has pluged in a phone that doesn't have a filter. If all those checks dont fix the problem I will reboot the DSL modem then call the phone company.

Our internet goes out sometimes because of the phone company. It went out a couple of weeks ago. My hubby called the phone company and they said it was something to do with their end that they had to fix. It stayed out for about a day and a half and then just came back up. I was mad though that I was without internet because there were things that I needed to do on the internet and couldn't get on. So I just waited until it came back up to do them. And it makes me mad that I pay for internet service but when it goes out they won't reimburse me for those days it was out.

I guess that could never be prevented in our place. The weather has been quite uncooperative as there is a lot of sunshine in the morning then all of a sudden there are some rains that cause flash flood in some areas. i guess if you are subscriber on a wired internet subscription the lines somewhere might get soaked from this floodings and have your line get disconnected. In my place although it doesn't flood at all but when Manila is flooded the net connection might get slower or no connection at all. Maybe I am just fortunate that the no net connection is just for a short while and not last like yours which is two days.

Well, I usually get that. And the first thing I check is the connections. One time we lost connection and when I checked the lines it was that the connection to the router was disconnected.
After that, I try to disable/enable the Local Area Connection(kind of works sometimes). And then I go to the router configuration and release renew the IP address so that I can verify if there is just no connection or if I can't get a new IP address for some reasons like disconnection. And then if it is still gone, I'd wait for a few days, and if it is still gone for about a week or so, it's TIME. Time to contact the ISP. Heehee.
Well, that's what I can share. All of those process are kind of hard to explain but easy to do. Have a nice day!

Yes Sharie, I face such Internet off situations sometimes! Then I have to call my service provider for check up, since I have the subscription in cable-modem set up. It is resumed within about the next 24 hours of my call for it.
Thanks for this useful discussion!

We have had our internet disconnected, once when our box was too old, so they had to replace it with a new one, but the other times when they were upgraded our internet, or it was in the winter and they needed to do some repair. Or when some idiot cut the cable lines by mistake. Other than calling your cable or dsl company and hearing when the problem will be fixed, there is nothing that you can do. So I write more on my novel.

The last time i had connection problems was about a year ago. I'm using broadband in malaysia (broadband here sux!), i'm the lucky few to be in an area where the backbone is fibre optic.
Anyway, tho i have stable connection, the speed seriously is an issue.......

it's very aggravating to me when this happens. it's just like when your light or cable going out. guess they all have glitches but i don't like them. i'm sure the companies don't either. they have to listen to all that fussing.

It happens here many times and since we have rainy days here the broadband lines are not proper and get disconnected sometimes due to heavy rainfall at night times and we need to buzz the phone to telelinks and wait atleas for a day to set it right..so i plan to have a wireless connection here

Well that must've sucked, but there's an easy solution. Just get a new IP Adress. It's sort of hard to explain how to do it, so if you want me to get into details about it, just send me a message here on MyLot. =)
