I have a hotmail email account. I have used it for years, it is how I am in contact with everyone and everything important to me. I can't see closing the account.
I need to block a user who keeps sending me email that has begun to upset me (I'm crying as I write this). In the past, when I have tried to block an address I have had problems with not receive mail that was important to me. I have gone for months at a time checking junk mail everyday and recovering at least one message from someone on my safe list. Bottom line, I don't trust the Block User function.
Has anyone else had this problem? What did you do about it?

Create a new email address at gmail. Send this person your new email saying that you will be eliminating the hotmail one. Then, let him send his emails, willy nilly to gmail and once in a blue moon, go in and delete them all. Then eventually, just dump that address.
Did you notify hotmail about him? Also, notify the email service he is sending from. I assume that you asked him to stop, yes?

That's perfect. Why didn't I think of that?
Yes, I have asked them to no longer contact me. I was trying to being friendly out of concern for a friend. Today all friendliness stop.... I'm affraid I was rather rude.
I had not thought to notify the email service they are using. You are a smart one, you are!

haha, you are welcome. Once in a while I have a livid moment.
I hope it works, make sure you let me know. I hate it when people can't take "NO" for an answer. I call it stalking or harassment.

Thanks for the best response. I appreciate it.
By the way, what has happened since? Has it solved the problem? Let me know.
Hugs

The block user function is imbedded in the options somewhere. It took me forever to find it. I'm treating it like junk now. It is just so easy to get around that if someone really wanted to.

hi dear
how are u
i wonder why u r so upset,
well i dont have this problem that some one is distrubing me, and only option i know is "block user".
But i wonder why u r so upset and crying. people are keep on sending mails, and if u know the id, dont open it, just delete it after seeing it. and set ur filter on high alert it will only let regular mails to ur inbox, rest will go to junk and no need to look at them
i dont open any email from unknow user it avoid virus attack as well. So donr let anyone distrub u, Ignoring is best Solution and give cold shoulder to them
Just cheer up and smile
thats like a good friend
take care

Oh, my dear friend, cupid. I was silly to be crying and it was my own fault. I responded by email with this person (who has now been blocked and taken care of) because I felt I was protecting a friend from harm. But when I asked to be left alone the person became offensive. I should have never allowed them access to me.
I am cheered up and smiling now. Thanks to nice friends like you.

I had to cancel my account for that reason. I seem to get loads of junk mail to all my inboxes, it's ridiculous. I never even check my aol or yahoo accounts anymore because I know it's all junk.
Sorry I couldn't be more help, but I'm just not that familiar with it.

My hotmail is in dutch so i dont think i can help you much. Try to use the latest version of messenger and login at windowslive . Dont you have a place for unwanted mail? keep removing the mail without reading it to unwanted mail. With a little luck it will stop ?
Good luck!

Hi makingpots,
I'm very sorry to hear about this. I'm assuming this is a 'person' who you're not that close to. Perhaps a cyber friend. I'll never be able to understand why people behave this way. Anyway, I think you've got some good suggestions here. I especially like NanaJanet's. It's good too, that you're working with hotmail, so hopefully you won't be bothered again. Take care.

Hi, someonesmom. Thanks, friend.
Yes this is someone I hardly know but we have a friend in common. I was 'playing along' more out of kindness to the mutual friend.
I think I have it taken care of now.

I think there are agencies or sites which deal with things like this. You can report this email user to the site that does policing the emails. I just don't remember the exact site but there must be someone who can help you with this.

hmmm.. i guess you could email hotmail staff about it i guess. i never had this problem before so i am not sure why you are having this error as the block user function works well for me.

I always mark emails I do not want as unsafe. This usually works for me. It was also a good idea to set up another email but if this person does not get any replys from you at the other site they may come back to your hotmail address and get you there again.

You have to mark in Options of security to "Receive mail only from my contact list" and erase the user from you email address list.. that way you will only receive in your inbox the mails sent by any of your contacts and others email will be sent directly to the spam folder..

I think I might have the newest edition. Come to think of it, the problems I have had in the past were probably before updating to the new version. That's encouraging.... thanks, benita2008.
