This is another reason one should pull to the side of the road while on a cell phone. Please pull off while chatting. She was getting directions at the time.
MILLWOOD, Minn. -- A 21-year-old woman is dead after crashing her car into a ditch while on a cell phone just after midnight Wednesday in central Minnesota.

Hi Grandpa Bob this is so stupid. why wont people learn not to drive and yak on the cell phone at the sametime? here in Southern Ca its against the law now, you must have one that doesnt need your hands. We had a similar accident just up the street about two blocks early in the morning a week or so ago. The driver was not only cell phoning but arguing with his girl friend, he lost control of his car, smacked into a telephone pole so hard it tore his car in two. He was killed instantly and his girl friend was in critical condition,of course the cell phone was okay. people just will not learn. They were also in their early twenties, senseless deaths. sad but stupid too.

ame law here as well.
One can be charged with careless driving for it.
Meaning they could lose their license for up to 90 days.
We had a serious accident with a teen while he was texting and driving.
Hang up or pull over I say dang it.
Sad that it is mostly the teens losing their lives from distracted driving habits.

Hi Grandpa Bob, When will people learn not to use these whilst driving. My own daughter is only just 22 and she makes sure she has her phone for emergency but it is switched off in her handbag whilst she drives so that she will not be distracted. I have mine zipped into my jacket pocket. There have been many campaigns about the dangers and here in the UK it is an offence to use whilst driving and you get fined and points on your license the same as you would if you were speeding. My thoughts are with the friends and family of this young girl. Huggles. Ellie :D

I am stunned at the fact that now that I think of it I call my daughters cell and she answers it as she is dribving as well. Guess I had better stop that practice myself now that I think about it. That's being as irresponsible as those whom dial out while driving. Correct?

How sad and really bad that her family had to get that late night call or knock on the door. Not only don't use cell phone while driving but it seems like maybe she wasn't wearing a seat belt also. Too bad laws can't be enforced to stop certain things from happening while on the roads.

Think of the man giving her directions to his house then hearing her car crash.
Unreal feeling I imagine.

Wow, I feel bad for her family. There are hands free way to talk in the car on the phone. Which I feel is not more dangerous then talking to a passenger in the car!

I think the manufacturers should include handsfree devices
with their phones at the time of purchase free of charge.

I really hate it when people drive and talk on cell phones. I have a cell phone and I do carry it in my car but I turn the phone off because I do not want to be talking to anyone while I am driving. I carry my cell phone in case my car breaks down and I need to call someone to help me if I need help. I believe that cell phones should be carry in a car for safety not for enjoyment.

Way to go.
I feel that people whom use a cell phone anywhere and everytwhere should not own one persomnally. But that's just my opinion. I do nor own one nor want one either. If I am out with friends for dinner etc why would I answer the phone and make my friends feel neglected etc? There was a gorup of a dozen or so eating dinner at my wifes work last night. 3, yes three of them, were literally sitting in other areas gabbing away as their friends sat there wondering why they were not eating or sitting with them at that time.

I live 30 miles from a major city and so I only carry it when I come to town because their are no phones and just incase the car breaks down that someone can come and help me since, there are so many bad people out there I don't want to ask a stranger for help. I carry for safety and not to gabb on it driving down the HWY.

It's another horrible news. Despite education campaigns drivers still use their cell phone while driving making their lives and that of others at risk.

As anoher member mentioned here, why do we need
to pass a law for something that is common sense?

This is so sad, she was so young. When my cell phone rings when I am driving I pull off the road to answer it.I never drive and talk on my cell phone. Just yesterday a man was driving his truck while talking on his cell phone, and passed the stop sign and I was almost hit.

What a waste, this is the consequence of chatting and driving and its a bad accident we could have prevented it from happening. This is a good lesson we have here granda pa bob and that we should discipline our selves and this is a call for responsible cellphone using.

Not the last time...but the time before when I went to Wisconsin I almost got killed by someone on a cell phone. I was behind two cars and a dump truck...we were heading up a hill....well you know the truck slowed to shift gears..and I look in my rearview mirror and this car is coming up so fast I thought I was a goner.....I had about 5 car lengths between me and the car ahead of me...so I stepped on the gas and the car behind me must have finally caught on.....I could see he was talking on the phone....and I could hear his brakes squeeling as he went into the ditch!!! My knees were shaking so bad I could hardly drive! But I made it to Northfield and when I could pulled over.....he came up beside me and turned his head the other way....I was so upset!

Yes, this is a very good reason to not talk on your cell phone while driving. I admit I do it too, but I always try to watch how I'm driving if I'm on the phone and I won't stay on it very long, or I'll tell them to call me back later. My sister works with this lady that rolled her truck while she was texting on her phone, and her passenger was doing the same thing, I guess she veered to the other lane and hit a cement culvert, and over-corrected, and thats when they rolled the truck. Her passenger said she wasn't wearing a seatbelt at first, but when she saw them going toward the culvert she put it on real fast. The girl driving was in serious condition at the hospital, they said the parking brake went thru her leg, when it happened. So I think I probably shouldn't be talking while driving, or use a headset or some kind of hands free device...Have a good day

Isn't it ridiciolus to have to force people to use common sense by passing a law? Anyone with half a brain knows that it is dangerous and potentially deadly to be paying attention to something besides what is going on around them on the road. And that doesn't even begin to cover how i feel about people texting while driving, dear heavens they should be required to attend an in-patient intervention for stupidity!

This upsets me so much. I have been almost hit by people who do this!!
People get upset with me when I won't answer my phone when driving. I won't do it!! If I need to talk, while driving, like someone giving directions, I will stop, do the call, put it on speaker phone on my lap and drive.
I will not text or dial while driving and it is so rare that I even do it with speaker phone.
My cousin has it hooked into his car with blue tooth so he can just do it all with his voice and never look at or touch a phone.
Now I have a GPS so I don't ever have to get directions and I will always pull over if I need to call. My life, and those of the other drivers, are more important than being on time to anywhere!
Now that poor girl's family has to deal with their loss. I have lost a child and would never wish that on anyone.
PLEASE PEOPLE!! If it's not driving, don't do it in a car!!

That is so sad people just will not get the message about cell phone and driving. I come across this all the time when I am traveling on the highway. I tell my children to refrain from doing this, I know they aren't listening. Most people feel they have mastered this task and that an accident cannot or will not happen to them.

Oh my goodness...I wish people would only use cells in cars when they have an emergency and never when they are driving. I want my 21 year old daughter to see this. They just live on the cell phones. I hope they will think more about this.

Another person being inconsiderate and putting other people's lives at risk. What will eventually happen is they will invent a device that will be mandatory in all vehicles that will cut off cell phone signals while the car is on or in motion. This will be the only way to stop cell phone usage (calls or text) while a vehicle is moving.

When will ppl come to realize that driving and talking on a phone are not a good idea...why couldn't the guy send her directions before she started driving or why couldn't she pull off the road to get them. I hope the trip was worth it.

Hello Grandpa Bob. It is sad that one loses her life while on the phone while driving the car. I often see drivers make a call while driving the car or bus, which is very dangerous to not only the driver but also the passengers. If only these drivers are more aware of the latent danger of making or answering a call!

Hi GRANDPA BOB,
That is sch a waste of life, for doing something so stupid, she should up and took details down of the direction instead of driving wirh the cellphone in her ears, In the UK is illegal to use cellphone while driving and if anyone see someone talking on the cellphone while can repor to the the police. this lady should have had a St Map, that would have helped and should would have been alive today.
