Ever woke up in the morning and felt shocked to find you sent an angry email to your ex-girlfriend or a insult-ridden email to your boss?
Gmail has found the solution to avoid the drunken embarrassing late night email sending.
Google engineer Jon Perlow wanted to come up with a system to stop people sending messages they might regret in the morning when they have sobered up.
The Google 'Goggles' make somebody solve some easy maths problems before allowing them to send a message.
What do you think of this invention?

i think if you didn't get drunk to start with you wouldn't have this problem.

Well, I've been in that situation myself but didn't hit the "send" button, fortunately! It's a good idea if people can't control themselves!

ha.. well i have two questions on this.. 1. what if you are horrible at math? 2. when or what times will they do this (test you) or is it based on text keywords??
haha do they have ones for insomnia and migraines?? i get that way after about a week of not sleeping or a couple hours into a scull breaking migraine

Hello ronaldinu
I heard this story and thought it was quite funny and hoped theat someone would create some way of stopping people from making silly purchases on ebay or those funny shopping channels that sell tat or even stop you from ringing those programs where they say that if you come up with the right answer you will win some money!! . Sometimes I think it is good to send someone an email to tell them exactly what you think of them even if you have been helped with a bit of dutch courage!!

I have responded to the same discusssion started by my other mylot fren.. lol =D
I think the invention is good, but it will not work on me, because i seldom send emails and that i only have got all guys contacts in my list.. lol =D So whatever i send, they will only take it as a joke and know that i have send wrongly.. haha ^_^ Plus, if i'm really drunk, i will take a bath and head to bed straight away, thus there won't be any chance for me to use my computer at all.. haha

Hmmm.. Interesting, but isn't it like abetting a mistake on the person's side. Everybody feels bad while drunk, but that doesn't mean that they could get on a abusing streak and start sending out emails. The idea is good, but it will be another problem because people would have to wait for page to load and answer and then the mail will be sent.

Now if they could only do that for drivers so they cannot start the car without solving simple math problems, the world would be a much safer place.

Hi ronaldinu,
I don't think its a good idea, coming from the woman's point of view, the say that truth always comes out when you are drunk, and this is a device fpr ment to get out of a sticky situstion, they sould be made to suffer. I have heard of that one, its a new invention for men.

Hey ronaldinu! Is that true? Did he really do that? That's
really cool! I might have trouble getting my emails through
even though I don't drink! I'm really lousy in math! lol
That is a great idea! But, I don't use Gmail or drink so
I don't have to worry! Thanks for the info though, I might
just pass it on to some others! If only they would find
a way to stop drunk dialers!

This sounds like a great idea, maybe they could expand it to any message which holds certian words. it could give you time to cool off before sending. Of course when I am upset any delay would just make it worse.

haha this is a really good idea! i think i'd still be able to solve the problems though, when i'm drunk i talk nonsense and can't walk straight but my logic isn't impaired, i just have a really bad headache the next day! i think if you're lucid enough to be able to turn the computer on, get online and type and email you're probably with it enough to solve a maths problem!! lol xxx

I think maybe the emails shouldn't go out till the next day. That way in the morning you can see the emails you've written the night before and decide if you still want to send them. You should be able to set preferences on the times. Example, any emails you send after 10PM will be held until morning. I think it's stupid though anyways. People should know better in the first place.

Oh boy, yet another annoying thing to have to pass even though I don't drink. I think it's a silly invention and for most people unless they're REALLY drunk can still answer simple math problems. It sounds more like a way to resolve bots & spamming then anything else. Most spamming n' stuff that goes on is done automated, not by an actual person. The given person might set it up to begin with then it just does everything on it's own afterwards. Having to do a form of "capitcha" does kind of protect against it so i'm for that aspect of it, but not for the whole. "Crazy drunk angry" emails. I just don't really see it doing much for that.

No I have never woke up and found out I sent a bad email to someone that I did not mean to send or did not realize I had sent, because I do not drink, because I think drinking is stupid, and should be outlawed, because it causes nothing but trouble especially the people who drink and drive, and then kill innocent people without getting a single injury to themselves,my fiance has a Gmail account and she was telling me about the Mail Goggles and she showed me that late at night and during the weekends,to send an email you have to solve like five math problems, and I think it is a really good invention.

I read a bit about this in the most recent edition of Time Magazine. It's quite a funny system but it might actually be useful. Then again, how can you actually type something when you're drunk? I've been drunk a few times in the past and I don't think I was able to send a text message back then so I really can't imagine how I would type an angry e-mail to someone.

This is great idea and really funny I think:) I personally will probably not use this service, cuz when I am drunk and get finally home all I want to do is get to the bed, really do not bother myself by turning the computer on, sometimes I would be even not able to turn it on lol:) But really welcome this invention I think it will be useful for many drank people:)

amazing...infact why drunken emails only...why not the angry ones when u have had a fight with your partner and in the heat of the moment write so many things.maybe the maths problem provided can divert the person and the email not sent.or maybe one can add a system wherein an individual puts in few filter words which when containing in a mail...the email is not sent but is put in a seperate folder. but must say this new invention can lead to a lot more of inventions. Good Going
