How long is it?

The longest friendship I have is of 20 years. We met whilst working in a fast food restaurant but have grown apart and closer over the years. Unfortunately we don't get to see as much of each other as we would like but we are still very good friends. If ever I should need her, she would be right there for me and I too for her. She still lives in my hometown and I make sure I call her and we get together whenever I am in her area visiting.
How long is your longest friendship? How did you meet?

I have many friend and the longest is nearly 43 years. He is college mate. Living in a different continent. Did not meet for decades. But when I went to the USA, he drove all the way from California to Washington D.C. to meet me, in spite of his busy schedule. I think the friendship of early years and school/college periods last longer than those while you are work. Generalising it may not be advisable but content of selfishness is much less during school/college time friendships.

Hi ya srsddn and welcome to you to myLot
I think that during your school/college years you go through a lot, growing up and you share that with someone else so you will always have that bond and connection with that person.
Thanks for your response and happy mylotting

My longest friendships go back around 40 years. These comprise two groups of friends: one is my group of neighbors whom I grew up with when I was a young boy still in primary school. We used to play together a lot, visit each other's homes across the street or down the same street. We are still in touch today. In fact, five of my neighbors worship in the same church as me, so we're still as close as ever. The other group of friends come from my secondary school. I knew many people then, and in recent years, we have come back together and met a couple of times over meals to catch up on things and reminiscence about the schooldays. Our reunions were very nostalgic to say the least. I'm now in close touch with about a dozen of my old school pals. One of them is even in my church.

One thing I realize about people is that the older they grow, the more they want to reconnect with old friends they have known for years. Part of growing old is to build lasting friendships. Old friends are good candidates because they are likely to be around the same age group.
You son may not play with your neighbor in school, but if he befriends others at school, but still plays with the neighbor at home, then he will expand his circle of friends in the process.

My best friend (one of the two) and I met in Junior High School back in 1987. We are still good friends to this day and stay in regular contact. In fact he is staying with my family in New Jersey right now. The two of us met my other best friend in High School in 1990 and the three of us, though in separate states, are all in regular contact with one another. We all went to college together too!

I got to tell you though the title of your post is very misleading and I had to read further before responding as I truly thought you were asking "how long is it?"
LOL
Hilarious

Hi there shamsta19
I am glad to hear that you have a good network of great friends!
The idea of the title of my discussion was to grab people's attention, which I think I succeeded in doing and not to mislead anyone so that's your fault if you thought something else! LOL
Thanks for your response

My longest friendship is 31 years. We met in 3rd grade. We were best friends then and are best friends now. In between, we have gone through different stages of losing touch for a little while or of having other best friends, but it has now come full circle. I think that a good friend is one that even if you lose tough for a while, when you get back in touch it's like nothing ever came between you. You don't have to talk, but you know that that person would be there in a second if you needed them.

One of my homies, wow, we've been friends for about 28 or 29years! Figure this out, I've been knowing this cat since the year after I was born, but of course, you don't really realize anything til later, which is y I chopped off 2 or 3 years! My other homie, we've been tight for about 16 years! With both of them, contact is minimum, cause of distance, but we still hang out, have a drink or 2 and talk about future plans and old times whenever we get the chance..lol!

My longest friendship is around 24 years. We met from living in the same neighbourhood and have kept in touch all this time. I don't see him often at all and sometimes I even go years without us even talking but as soon as we do catch up it's as if no time has passed at all. It's interesting how fast time goes actually!

The longest friendship I have had is 33 years and running. We met in school and she had to move away due to family concerns and she still lives halfway across the country. We have always written to each other and called and either I go see her in the summer or she comes to see me for about a week. We spent Thanksgiving together last year. We don't normally do holidays because we both have family but last year was special.
We have now graduated to internet communication which means we pretty much are in contact every day or two at some point. It is unusual for people to keep contact for that long but we have managed it so far!

Hi there fasttalker
I think people will stay in contact unless one of them really can't be bothered. I have got a friend who I haven't seen or spoken to since last December. She said she'd call me but still has and here we are nearly a year down the road. I keep thinking I will call her but I just don't seem to get around to it and think if she can't be bothered why should I? She isn't a longterm friend so I guess I am not so bothered!
Thanks for your response

My longest friendship is 16 years. He is my neighbour, we play with each other since young but as we grow up our friendship have grown apart because i was betrayed by him. Its saddening that my friend of 16 years can betray me because of money! Money is really the roots to all evil!
