Since her selection as John McCain's running mate, the Republican National Committee spent more than $150,000 on clothing and make-up for Gov. Sarah Palin, her husband, and even her infant son. Remember the John Edwards $400 haircut? If Edwards had gotten one of his legendary haircuts every singe week, it would still take him 7.2 years to spend what Palin has spent. Palin has received the equivalent of $2,500 in clothes per day from places such as Saks Fifth Avenue (money spent totaled nearly $50,000) and Neiman Marcus (where the governor had a $75,000 spree).
I could get my children started off in decent colleges for that. Or save some to retire, help my mom with medical expenses, the list goes on. Where could you use $150 k?

I don't think I could spend $150K on clothing for myself and my 2 kids in a lifetime let alone in less than a few months. Crazy! I would be putting most of it away for the kids college fund and I would buy a new car and a down payment on a house with the rest.

I like that plan. Maybe next time you should put in for the VP job!

I bet if I spent more than 150 grand on clothing at places such as WalMart, JCPenney, Sears, Old Navy, and Land's End, I would have MORE clothing than what Palin got at Saks and Neiman Marcus.

If you did that you could use a bedroom for a walk in closet!

Yep, I sure could. Palin could have, no, should have, used that money for better purposes than that. She could have used it to "save the wolves". Oops...she kills the wolves...from a helicopter no less!! Such a shame.

They sure did. I wish they would give all of us that kind of money each year to buy some clothes. Politics is suc a scam.

The Republican campaign was, at one time, trying to display Barack as elitist, but that didn't pan out for them as well as they might have expected. Barack is a lawyer, he is smart, but he is also personable and appears not to be stuck on himself. So, now they go and dress themselves with the finest clothes. I would say that seems highborn image-conscious, but I'm guessing it is par for the course. Spending more on clothing than I paid for my house apparently doesn't pass as upper-crust elitism to the republican base.. so I guess there is nothing worth saying about it.

That money wasn't just for her. That money went towards EVERYTHING that had to do with her image and her family's image. They couldn't just go to Walmart and pick out a $50 suit. Anyone that works in an office knows that a decent suit is $1200 and upwards. That money is used for hair, makeup, shoes, AND clothes for every member of her family. And this woman is not your normal greedy politician. She and her family don't live above their means. They are not millionaires. She didn't have tons of fancy designer suits in her closet when she was chosen. No one talks about Michelle Obama's getting stylists from Oprah or her own custom tailored suits. I don't see anyone tallying up Obama's suits or what it takes to keep all the other candidates looking their best.
And most of the time, there are aids that go out and pick out stuff for her. It's not like she has eons of time to go shopping. She has better things to do.
