Do you always, follow instructions ,on the back, of a product before cooking it?

When I usually cook my rice and pasta, I will follow the instructions on the back of the product before cooking it.. I use exactly how much water it tells me to use. I put the right amount of margarine, oil and milk in it, if asked.. Do you just put how much water that you want to and the other ingredients in it, or do you follow the exact instructions that are on the product.
I do realize that there are other foods that may not require following instructions, you can add as you go. But, for the ones that do, do you try to follow instructions, for this product? Or, do you do it the way that you feel is right? Thanks for all of your comments!

Nope! I don't even read the instructions on the back of the products. I only buy things that I already know how to cook but I don't measure the ingredients like water or butter or anything like that. I just eyeball it and put in the amount that looks about right. It usually comes out ok.

When making pasta, I never follow the directions. I fill a pan with water and boil it. I do use the time suggested on the package, but never measure the water I put in the pan. When making Macaroni and Cheese, I never measure the butter and milk, I just put it in what I think.
Now when making a cake, I always follow the directions exactly.

Whenever I cook Macaroni and Cheese or Chicken Helpher, I always follow the instructions on the back, just in case I forget what ingredients I need to use. The instructions on every package is very helpful if you want to cook for accuracy.

Yeah, I usually always follow the directions on back of the package, I think that if I don't it won't turn out right, theres a reason they are there..lol. Some foods tho, I may have cooked alot so I don't need to look at the directions anymore, but almost always I read them and go by them.

No. I went years before I realized that there were instructions on the back - I've always just done it the same way my mom did it.

Yes, I'm kinda particular about that stuff. Plus, if I'm cooking it I trust what the box or bag says. Until I get familiar with it I won't deviate or be creative.

I always read the instructions on every package, even if it's something I have made many times. Sometimes, I might change the way I prepare foods, but I always want to know which way the package suggests before I do.

Instructions, what instructions, I'm the Chef..lol! Really, sometimes I'll read the directions. But most times, I'll glance at what I need then freestyle, it always comes out better when I do it that way..:)

Hey cream! I always do it the way I wanted them to be. Like with the pancake mix, I add milk instead of water.

I always read carefully and follow what's on the packaging on the product since i am not really good in making estimations or something. :P

No, I do not always follow the directions on the back of a product. Why? because I am so use to cooking from scratch without a set recipe or instructions to follow. So, I can pretty well figure out if I can chnage something or not on the back of a product.

most of the time on things like cookies and cakes. If its a pasta with a flavoring I do or instant rice. If its just regualar rice or pasta I just stick it in a pot with boiling water and a bit of salt.

I'm like you in that I always follow the instructions on the packet. For example, I know that lots of people can cook rice and pasta without timing it, but I don't trust my intuition enough to do this, and I just had too many burning rice disasters in my student days!
I think that my confidence to judge when food is ready or how much of an ingredient I should add is just not great enough! Other people sometimes think that I'm a bit crazy for following the instructions so closely, and an Italian friend of mine said that she knows that the pasta's done when it sticks to the wall . But I suppose if you're a naturally a good cook then it's fine to use your instincts; I'm only able to get anywhere near being a 'reasonable' cook if I follow the recipes and instructions exactly!

if i am cooking the dish for the first time and then i will surely look at the instructions and i follow it. sometimes if i know to cook the dish and i want to make some changes in it and then too i will have a look at the instructions.
i feel that it is better we always take a look at the instructions before we use anything for cooking as it might help us, but if we are regularly using the product and we know how to use it then i think it is not required for us to have a look at the instructions but rarely used and newly used products should be used carefully.
with the instructions it is also necessary to see the expiry date too on our every use so that we can have a track of it.

I do follow instructions if it is the first time i will try the recipe. After that i do some changes and modification if needed. Doing experiments or modification to change the taste a bit or at least improve the recipe to the right taste bud of eaters will definitely not hurt the recipe
