How many shoes is too many shoes?

My husband, bless his heart, came home from work today in a right strop. He had to go and pick up a couple of parcels for me today, and you'll never guess what were they were..... SHOES! 3 pairs of gorgeous shoes. Well, one pair of flat, black, sensible shoes, one pair of ridiculously priced leopard print stilettos and one pair of slouchy black boots to wear over jeans. Essentials, you see! Well, that is just 3 of my 6 pairs of shoes that I have bought this month and the hubby is starting to go a bit mental. See, I pay for them though, out of my own money, and I don't see quite why he has such a problem. Well I didn't....until I went into my closet. I already had the leopard print shoes. Not exacly the same ones, but almost. Along with 78 (he made me count) other pairs of shoes, 13 pairs of trainers and 23 pairs of boots. Not all the same of course. He's now given me a limit. I can only buy one pair of shoes a month, and if I go over that, I have to throw a pair of shoes away. Is he mad??? So, girlies, or guys, how many pairs of shoes is too many pairs of shoes, and do I really have a problem?

I am a girl and I do not have that many shoes. I used to have a week's worth of flip flops, but they have torn and / or are in storage. Then I had three pairs of flip flops, two dress shoes, and one pair of tennis shoes. Now I have only two pairs of tennis shoes and one pair of flip flops, I will be getting cowboy boots but that is my limit. I don't know why I hear about so many girls buying lots of shoes, it's just never been my own style. I have no problem with people who buy a lot of shoes, but I just don't understand why you need so many that you never wear.

I suppose it would depend on how many pairs of shoes he owns

I have about 8 pair which I guess sounds like a lot for a guy. My sisters has at least a 100. I know that she has a closet full of shoes and then some. I thnik that you should have a pair of shoes to cordinate with all of yuor outfits. I have a few dress shoes for all my suits and then some casual pairs. I think it is harder for women since you have to have so many shoes to cordinate with all the diffrent outfits you have where as men can wear one color with several outfits.

Hi Missberlee, I can certainly understand your love for shoes as I have about thirty pairs myself(and yes, I have accidently bought some the same as shoes I already own...Opps!). I think that if you dont think you have too many shoes, you probably dont, I mean theres still room in the closet for more isnt there? lol. Just enjoy and try to wear a different pair everyday. At least that way, he cant say that they arent getting worn. Hugs, Tianna

I do not think there can be too many pairs of shoes. I have never counted how many shoes I own, but I know it's a lot. Not as many as you though, but a lot. Happy shoe shopping!

Man I know exacly how your husband feels!!!! My wife has A LOT OF SHOES!!!! I think I counted at one time, but the number has gone up, so why bother. Lol! Something about shoes that makes some women crazy is the price; the more expensive the shoe...the better. One very cool thing I noticed, is that when a certain brand brings out a new pair and you are one of the first to buy them the women you run into at the grocery store who sees you with them on, wants them but does not have them, always says "nice shoes". That is the feeling that you die for. SO keep them coming Missberlee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well, lol, we have the same rule for our kids with stuffies, one comes in, one goes out. surely you have some that are not that comfortable or are ready to go in the trash... i must admit that i have about 30 pairs of shoes, but almost half of them were freebees for me (either my mom bought me them or i got them second hand from different friends).

I love shoes, but cannot afford to buy them often. I only have about four pairs altogether. What I say is that if you can afford them and it is your treat why not? I mean, I do think that you have quite a few pairs there but maybe if they are in good condition you could sell a pair everytime you buy a new pair and then you would not be spending as much!

LoL. Interesting discussions you make. Okay, here are my how I believe the situation should be handled: As long as you and your husband agrees on how much it too much or just enough or whatever that number is, and you AGREE on it, that is what is most important. My opinion about it though may differ: How many times a day will you get to wear all of the shoes you've obtained already? How many times a month, or even a year? Sure a variety of different styles in definitely sensible and needed in my opinion. Is there something that your husband spends a lot of $$$ on in order to satisfy his own vice? Relationships especially marriages about about give and takes. What are you willing to give up or give to him and vice versa. I hope I made sense, as I don't have a lot of time to respond with everything I would have said on this topic.

More than one pair! Well, I'm speaking for myself anyhow! I have one pair of trainers that I normally wear all the time and, when they are starting to wear out, I get my next pair. I'm a chap though, I guess the ladies love their shoes! I don't think you have a problem, it's up to you what you do and no one is going to tell you any different. You could even look at it as being a kind of hobbie! Andrew

Well in my book there is no such thing as too many shoes because I collect them. i love shoes and all types so therefore, there is no limit! I have 200 plus pairs of shoes; boots, stilettos, sandals, etc.

I wish I had that many! I'd say anything over 50 pair is way to excessive, even 50 is a lot!!! I only have 3 pairs of shoes, lol. 2 flip flops and 1 tennis shoes.

I don't think there is a limit of how many pairs of shoes anyone should have, whether you are a man or a woman. I personally LOVE shoes, all kinds. Sometimes, my husband jokes around with me about having too many shoes, yet he still buys me shoes. LOL

wowww... that is really a lot of shoes that you have... i can't imagine having so many shoes and i don't even know where to store them... you must be a shoe lover... as long as you are happy and you can afford it, i don't see the reason why you can't have that many shoes... but for me, i prefer to use the money for more important things... i only have a pair of feet... so i don't need that many shoes... take care and have a nice day...

OHHH ONE CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MANY SHOES!!! LOL though both my husband and my bf disagree...My husband is convinced I have a problem that could possibly require shoe rehab or shoes annonymous meetings I on the other had disagree..especially since i don't OWN that many shoes (about 13 or 14 prs) but i'm working on that..In fact I'm planning on buying some next week LOL In short, there is no such thing as "too many shoes"

I am a woman in my fourtys. I have come to a sense that I do not need to many things in order to be rich. I have one pair of boots for the winter, One pair of sandals in the summer. I also have a pair of shoes to use for speciall accations. The same goes with clothes, I only have clothes that I like to wear. I am thinking of bying my self a winter dress for outdoors. I do not need to much on if I use one of these, however I think it is so expensive to by one, but I am really tinking of it. I think people are bying to much stuff we do not really need. How in the world to you have time to wear more than one pair of shoe at the time?

I think too many pairs of shoes is when you have so many shoes that you don't know where you'll keep them. I really don't think there's a problem if you really want to buy shoes, just make sure it doesn't hurt your budget and that it doesn't become an obsession. Maybe for some who own 2 or 3 pairs of the same shoe (exact color design etc.) maybe it would be good to share it to others too right?

Well, if you have the money to buy them all then there's no problem but it is extravagance of course, you cannot wear all of them and before you knew it,years have passed before you can wear any of them again. It's impulse buying. And of course your money could have gone somewhere useful, you could have just given them to someone who cannot even afford to wear a single slipper. Buying too much stuff for yourself while others don't even have a penny to buy a piece of bread is something we have to be guilty of sometimes.
