It's one of my dreams living in UK, having a small home with a big field full of rough collies and Shetland sheepdogs. I would have the opportunity to attend dog shows, meet other dog people etc. Well living in a small island has its advantages as well. We are pretty much safe when compared to other European countries. You can go out late at night without fear of being robbed. The weather is fantastic here. Family ties are really strong here. So my tiny island has its blessings as well. Have you ever wished to live in another country?

Hey ronaldinu, I have thought that it might be nice to live
in the UK also. It seems like it would be a nice place to
live. I think that it has alot to offer and I think that I
would like alot of the culture and the wonderful places that
it is famous for would definitely intrigue me. I would
definitely like to visit there one day. I have a fellow
mylotter friend who has promised me a grand tour if I ever
were to get there and there are quite a few other mylotters
that I would certainly make sure that I got to meet.

Our standard of living is good. So I cannot complain about poverty etc etc. I would only change my country because of the dogs and the rural atmosphere. I love the greenery, the trees, large fields. We lack it here. Though we do have other things that you won't find them in UK. I would only change countries because of the dogs :)

I live in England and it has all the things you speak of. However it is cold, wet, backwards looking, it is expensive. You can only participate in the social life of cities if you have enough money to do it. If you are poor, England is not a place to be. Family ties are weakening here as we now have a me first culture. Its great if you are young healthy and rich, not too good if you are not
blessed be
I would one day love to live in America but im sure they have problems there too
blessed be

I've never been UK before, but from what you've described, it's really a dream place to stay. I wish to live in a suburb in Australia, I was studying there, and it's really a peaceful and comfortable place to stay. People there are friendly and helpful, they always greet and help strangers. I really can feel the love among human. Yeah, I wish to stay in a small country house, having my dogs running around the yard, and do not need to think about my own safety when going out at night. It's really a dream for me here.

Well I live in England and the weather is terrible most the time, even our summer this year was mainly rain! I love where I live though, it is nice and quiet and safe as it is a village. I grew up in the countryside living on a farm and it was the best! I'd hate to live somewhere like London as it wouldn't feel safe to me. England is good to a certain extent but the government over here is far to soft!!! I have a boarder collie who is lovely and we have fields behind our house so it is ideal really and there is a river down the bottom of the field. Your place sounds lovely. We just need some of your good weather and then it would be better lol!!!

I like other places with more beautiful sightseeings, too. But I love to live in my hometown because there are many people whom I love here and familiar surounding. I am afraid of my not being comforted with the new things.

Yes, England is nice and so is Malta. Do you live on Malta or on Gozo? I found Gozo really fascinating. However, I live in Canada in the Eastern part and although we can have some severe winters I would not want to live in another country. I live just at the edge of Toronto, a two minute walk from Lake Ontario and near a huge park and wild area where a creek empties into the lake. Since I am retired I can walk every day and this part of town is so safe lots of women walk alone. Sometimes I walk with a friend and over the last couple of years we have seen coyotes, deer, mink, hawks, beaver, raccoons, arctic and mute swans, foxes and of course the ever present black and grey squirrels, ducks and the pesky Canada geese who no longer migrate in the winter and multiply abundantly. Lake Ontario is so huge when you walk along the beach you cannot see the other side. When it is stormy it is like the ocean. When the weather is beautiful the vista is magnificent. Yet in another 5 minutes you are on the road at the shops at the bus stop to the subway at a stop for an 24hour streetcar. I would like to visit many places and spend some more time in Malta and in England. I would like to see Devon, Robin Hood's woods and many more interesting places but I would not want to live anywhere else.

I live in Malta but visit Gozo once or twice a year especially during summer. It's only a twenty minute by ferry.

because people seem to think it's all quite rural, and I think, idealise it all a bit.
I'm lucky. I do live in a little rural village, but even so, there's little sense of community here. not in an unpleasant way, but everyone keeps to themselves.
and I'm much in the minority. there's a lot of people living in cities and towns.
I expect life is much the same all over the world, but when people think of living in England, it's the rural lifestyle people tend to imagine is the norm.
having said that, there's no other country in the world I'd like to live in.

Hi ronald the one thing that isn't safe here is going out at night especially on your own..its ok if you are with someone but unfortunatley it isn't that safe..apart from that everything you said you would like you would be able to do and family ties would always be close with you..my family ties are fairly close too it depends on the individual family along those lines.
The one place I would love to live is Africa..I feel so drawn to it and have been there it is Geods Country to me..the people poor as they are are so friendly and helpful, also happy..it is a wondrous country even though there is violence but I have never known a country that has not had violence...littleowl

You are right but there are so many other things in our western culture we have worry about like malaria so that doesn't worry me that much..it was Kenya I went to and still keep intouch with some African friends I met when over there..littleowl

I am from the UK and it seems weird to read of someone else wanting to come and live in the country that I would love to leave. I think the main reason I would love to leave is the weather, it is just awful lately, so cold and even in summer it is cold! So I would love to live in a country that has warmer weather and a proper summer!

What about living six months in Malta and six months in UK. You can have best of both worlds :) We have the sun here although it maybe too hot for you. If I had not family constraints, the only reason I would move to UK is because of my hobby.

As much as we complain about the weather in UK I am pleased we do not have things like hurricanes, tornadoes etc like some do and I do not think I would like to live somewhere which is too hot, especially somewhere that is hot most of the year. My friends lived in Turkey for a few month and she said it was too hot for her.

I not only live in England, I live in the best place possible! I live in the South Lake Distict in Cumbria and once worked out that within 2 hours I could be in any type of place I could wish for. Mountains, Lake, Forest, and every kind of beach imaginable and if I want Cities or fun there's always Blackpool or Manchester and Liverpool!
I love my Country and have spent time living in both Wales and Scotland too. I don't even mind the weather! I hate being hot though a bit more sunshine would be appreciated!
I've never wanted to live anywhere else but I'd love to visit the Far East and New Zealand! The farthest I've been from home was Norway which I loved. I like snow!

Hi ronaldinu,
I live in the UK and I love it here,I do go out late at nigt and feel quite safe, robbing only happens in the inner city areas and now its not tha often, crime happens every where in the world but our country has been given a bad press, but in our area it is so beautiful and I live in the outskirt of a little town in the county of W. Sussex, a lovely little place. I have never wanted to move to another country and your little island sound beatiful, I wouldn't mind going there for a holiday, and you are welcome to come and live here anythime.

Hi Ronaldinu,
I live in the UK, currently in Birmingham the UK's second city. I have worked in London, lived in towns in and around London, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow. Outside the cities there is Devon and Cornwall, the Lake District and mountains of Wales and Scotland which are all areas of outstanding natural beauty.
You live in Malta, a small place with excellent weather and some great getaways. In southern Europe, the weather is on your side hence the attraction for tourism and the tourist industry.
Except on big misconception. My sister used live in Southern Spain, great area, beatiful scenery. But is this enough. I don't believe it is. For visiting there was fine, but there seems to much boredom after a couple of weeks of sun sea and sand.
Why do so many people from smaller nations emigrate to the UK? Simply put, London is world famous and a great city with a lot of opportunity. The problem is the work ethic and 'no free lunches' principle in the UK. Hence, people are frantic in making money that social and family values have disintergrated. Don't get me wrong, I think the UK is great, brilliant places to get away and much to do - except noone has that much time - since the cost of living is high.
So living somewhere and visiting there is a world of difference. The UK is excellent place to work and invest. And if you make above the comfortable standard of living, debt free, then you really are laughing here. Life then takes on a new meaning.
As for the weather, well, its not something to ride home about, and the winter months are low light and damp days. You really need to be active, and ahead of the game here. Whereas, in other countries, US, Canada, Australia, and Southern Europe, if you need to relax, you can. Bills are constant and extortionate, people are fed up of these rising costs.

Thanks Makro for your detailed analysis. I do understand that living somewhere and visiting for a holiday is another thing. One thing that i would hate for sure is travelling. Travelling for 3 hours from one place to another is unheard of here in my island. You can travel from north to south of the island in 45 mins mostly.

PS After contemplating other countries and cities around the world, I still believe (though the last 20 years, politcians have largely ruined this country on debt) that the UK is home and of the better place to be in terms of security and general freedoms of choice.

The UK is boring. It rains all the time here. Yes we have nice green country side and gardens for our dogs, but it is very expensive to live here.
I will swap with you. I would love to live on a little Island with warm weather all the time. You are so lucky.
Yes, it probably would not be as safe here either as it would be on your lovely Island. Family ties are good here in larne too. It is important and would be hard to move away because of my family.
I was going to emigrate to Canada last year, but changed my mind, because I would miss my Mother and my friends.

I live in the UK and it is expensive to live here. Property and land prices are high. The cost of living has gone up considerably lately. I live in a house on the edge of a coastal town overlooking the countryside. I like summer, spring is lovely too. Autumn is too cool for me and winter is far too cold for me. In my twenties I wished I lived in Australia. I have spent much time there and think it would be the most perfect country to emigrate to. At age 30 I went to New Zealand and that would be a wonderful country to live in. The summer is warm but I don't like the climate for the rest of the year there. I think Belize would be a charming place for me to live. The climate is tropical so that would suit me perfectly. I met some American ex-pats living on Caye Caulker. One American lady has a standard poodle and I have two miniature poodles. How about living on Gozo? I have been to lovely Malta and Gozo.

Gozo is smaller than Malta. Quite a lovely clean picturesque island. However if you had to go to Malta for work, it's not fun waking up at 5am to be at 7am at your place of work. Property here is expensive too. I hope that you have enjoyed your stay here

Hi Ronaldinu,
I liv the the UK, I love the UK and even though have family abroad wouldn't want to live anywhere else at all. It is my home. I live in a rural area of Devon and it is pretty safe too but the cties at night aren't too pleasant to be in but a lot of that has to do with people binge drinking and causing trouble coming out of venues. Pleased to hear that where yu live is safe also. Huggles. Ellie :D

hi Ellie. I never had the opportunity to visit Devon. Hopefully I will someday. I like rural areas. I have not visited London yet. I would do so because as a maltese saying goes, when you are in Rome you have to see the Pope. I really wonder why the British are emigrating to Spain and other countries.

Hi there Ronaldinu. I have fantasied about living in other places around the world, but i don't know if i would really leave my country. Perhaps i am a person who doesn't embrace change with all his heart, but then again, i might just like it in another location.
I think that all places have their advantages as well as their disadvantages but now it depends on the people as well and how good they can accommodate their self.

Dear ronaldinu, I have lived nine years now in Germany and lived two years in England. I was born in Dublin, Ireland, so I have not only wished to live in another country, but actually done it. I know both countries very well now and feel that I would like to move on and visit another country, possibly in Central or Eastern Europe. I will add that foreign countries are much more fun, when you are visiting them on a student exchange programme or on holidays. When you live abroad permanently, you have to deal with the bureaucracy of a foreign country, which is, as you can imagine, not much fun. However, it's all part of the experience of life, which is also great. All the best. UMart
