I had maintained a strict diet for about two years. I lost around 15 kgs and I got at my ideal waist. However during the last year I have stopped going for a one hour walk and I have slacked in my diet. I had cut down on cheeses and sweets. Now I have started to eating them again I have gained weight. I need to be more motivated. What are your suggestions? © ronaldinu 2008

I think the US is one of the few countries in the world that uses the old fashioned system of pounds and ounces. 1 kg is 1000grams. 1 pound is 454 grams so 1 kg is about 2 pounds (908 grams) So 10 kg is about 20 pounds. By the way scientists in the US also use the metric system for all their calculations. In Canada we switched to metric many years ago. We still use both systems in labeling some products in the supermarket. Now I get really confused when I go to the USA with all the pints, quarts and gallons. I guess whatever we are used to makes us feel comfortable.

You've successfully completed a dieting program that got you to a weight and size you wanted, and you don't want to slide back-Great! Put up photos of yourself before you lost the weight, maybe if you kept any of the clothing that doesn't fit you anymore, hang some of that out as a reminder,or make a point of giving it away to a goodwill shop as you don't want to ever wear it again...why did you stop with the walks? Do you have a partner to walk with? A dog? You already found that your weight increases if your food intake is greater than what your exercise level burns off..so balance your intake! If it's the weather that deters you from exercise this time of year, find some indoor activities that suits you,go swimming,etc..good luck!

Thanks for the Best response on this! Sorry I haven't responded on it up til now,but I'm in the US at the end of a 2 week stay at present, and have been in internet withdrawal for most of the time..Being on holiday here, and having come over for Thanksgiving, despite not eating as much as I could do,the lack of exercise I'd usually have at work, and the riding around in cars I've been doing while here has had a noticable effect..I'll have to take some of my own advice when I get back home at this rate!

It is tough to loose weight. Start with dividing your dinner plate into 4 quarters (mentally) Fill two quarters with vegetables and or salad, next quarter with a piece of meat the size of a deck of cards, last quarter with a carbohydrate, a handful of brown rice, whole grain pasta or a medium potato. Do not have seconds. For desert have a fruit. Get a pedometer and walk 10 000 steps a day. There are all kinds of pedometers, very cheap and simple ones and complicated ones. Now that you have a dog you need to walk anyway. Good luck.

Maybe you should make a daily food routine..Like make a balance diet and do exrcise. I think that would help you out. Less intake of rice would help too...Theres lots of carbohydrate in that.

losing weight is really a great task and i know that and even sacrificing for the things you like to eat most is even more difficult. after my pregnancy i had gained a little weight and i want to lose it and hence i had been trying for it and also joined gymnastic but it is so difficult. i do my gyming for about one hour and three days a week and i am able to lose one kg a month and how much ever you try to exercise we will be able to lose only a kg per month. and if we skip gym for a continuous few days you feel as we have gained weight again and it is the process how it runs and once the gained weight is really difficult to lose and if we lose it too, we find it comming back if we rest a few days. i really feel pity for the people who are really fat and i would get scared to get fatter and i just want to maintain it constant atleast if i am not losing anything but i feel as we grow our age day by day i feel that there are metabolism changes and our body act accordingly and i sometimes feel it is also some effect due to heridity.

haha.. Losing weight is easy, and but maintaining it there is hard.. Dun worry, u are not the 1st person.. lol =D Cutting down on diet is a good way, but how long can u be cutting on it, and there has got to be temptations sometimes.. So The best way to lose weight is thru exercising.. lol =D Because once one start to exercise, and overtime, it will more or less become a routine, becomes part of their life.. And when u are starting to get bored with walking, try running and jogging.. Since u are alot slimmer now, u cant be walking anymore because it wun have any effects on u.. Thus, u should try jogging and running ^_^ IF not, cycling or swimming is a good choice too.. U see, there are so much fun to exercising and dun missed out on them.. lol

when you get some good suggestions let me know as i have struggled with losing weight for years and years. i was working out too and then my gym membership ran out and then life got so stressful i had no time or desire to exercise and because of the stress i started over eating again and i have gained 10 lbs on top of what i already need to lose. it is an uphill battle for me. now with the holidays i am afraid i will gain more if i do not get myself under control and fast!

Well dear, if there is a will there is a way! Go and do as what you did the last 2 years when you were able to trim down your waist. If you were able to do it then, you could again do it for the second time around. Go!

Hi friend,You can enjoy sweets and whatever you like once in a while when you want to reduce. But not always.I am prone to put on weight but I maintain by walking 5 kms everyday and follow a moderate diet, but not a crash diet which is very bad for your health. So it is better to follow a moderate diet and exercise everyday.Losing too much of weight in a short period and gaining again is not good. Thanks for sharing.happy mylotting.

I was doing good with my diet too until they put me on that darn night shift. then my eating schedule got all out of wack. I need to loose at least 9 pounds to get back to the weight I desire. Hopefully since my working hours have changed I can get back to eating right.

well, you can try doing simple workouts like jogging, walking, aerobics and yoga.. avoid eating too much carbs and sweets.. shift to a healthier option like eating wheat bread, oatmeal, fruits, veggies, fish and anything with fiber.. if you really want to lose weight then you should discipline yourself.. good luck =)

Hi Ronal, I hope i can call u like that! Well It is great that you have managed to reduce your weight upto 15kgs and still if you want to loose your weight then my suggestion is you also prefer the exersice, try to spend at jim for 2hours a day and have a good quantity of food when you go to jim.You need not do any fasting and all to loose the weight..

remember how good you looked and felt after you lost all the weight, tell yourself you did it before and you had more to lose so you certainly can do it now.

For one thing, you may need to get off the computer more, I know I need to, I get my exercise every morning, but I'll end up sitting in front of the computer the rest of the day on Mylot...lol. I've lost a few pounds also, and I sure don't want to put them back on. I'm not sure how I stay motivated, I think its because I'm actually losing weight, and I don't want to mess up what I've accomplished, so I push myself every morning to get my three miles in.

How about getting a dog that needs to go for nice long walks? Or buy a running machine and then you can run while you watch the telly or talk to the family. Our 11 year old son is having a running machine for christmas to help him stay fit for his football

Actually cheese is not so bad, in moderation. The sweets will do it. There is a great book called Protein Power. Look for it and get it. It will help and improve your health, and weight, greatly.

Excess weight is a horrible thing - and I find it stacks itself on as we get older! I've been going for a daily walk for many years, but it hasn't made any difference to my weight. My daughters say my body is used to the same level of exercise, and I need to ramp things up a bit - but I'm too lazy and unmotivated. I make sure I do 10,000 steps a day (I have a pedometer) - but it doesn't help me lose weight. I realise I need a change of diet to to that - and life's too short!

Hi ronaldinu, Now that you got a little puppy, you can exercises her and go for little walkies. That will be fun. Tamara
