There is a lawyer where I live who each and every year for the past several years gives away turkey's. This year it will be on the 22nd. He don't ask that you bring proof of anything, just come, stand in line and get your frozen turkey. He stands there all day and passes them out his self from the back of the big refrigerated truck. I know he can use this as a tax write off but that is ok with me, so many people get to have a turkey who would not if not for him.
Is there anyone in your town who does anything like this for others?

That is wonderful. What a brilliant idea and wouldnt it be nice if more people would consider doing this, if they can. I love to see charity in people, its just a wonderful thing anytime of year. I am sure that it helps many people too.

Because so many organizations in our community give away Thanksgiving Food Baskets, our church gives out a different kind of Thanksgiving box. We send toilet paper, and cleaning supplies, and baby wipes and diapers, tooth paste and tooth brushes for adults and for children. We include laundry supplies and all kinds of other things that you cannot get at food banks but that make your feel human. I do not know if it is four hundred families or four hundred people we touch with this projects.

We have a big Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas dinner. No requirements, just come. It has gotten big enough they want to know how many are coming, but you can be rich or poor, they just all rub elbows together.

That is great what your church does with the other things to give that the food bank don't provide. The big dinner is something we have here also for anyone. There are alot of people who go to this who are just here working and have no family here or people who are alone or even families who just want to go out and eat with others and not have to cook at home. I think it is great.

Yes it is good to see the kindness any time of the year but especially now and Christmas time. I saw on TV last night where some were even going around to the homeless and handing out sack lunches for those who did not go for the free dinners. They don't have to show proof of income for all of these things either which is great I think. The big dinners are for anyone to attend.

No. I wish I could tell you that there was! But I haven't heard of anything like that in years! In fact...last night on the news they said that our local Salvation army is not even passing out baskets like they have in the past. I think that so many are using what they have they can't even make the baskets. They are serving a dinner but not giving away the normal things. It makes you wonder about a few things. At our local postal collection they got a ton of food....and now with the Christmas donation checks in the mail I wonder if they are that short! It's a good thing someone like him does that...even if it's a tax write off....it's still very generous!

How sad that the Salvation army is having a hard time right now and not able to help out people. Each year one of our local TV stations takes one friday for people to drop off non perishable foods and money for the food bank and they in turn fill boxes up to give out to those who need it for Christmas so they can eat. They call it Share Your Christmas, they will do it here on Dec. 5th. I do complain about the city I live in often but I do have to admit they do their best to help those in need.

Every year here in Houston there is a big feast to which anyone can come, contribute or volunteer. It started to feed the hungry and now it is a big city wide thing which a lot of people go to and volunteer.

Some of my husband's employers in the past have given a turkey for Thanksgiving and some even a ham for Christmas too but he hasn't had that done in a while now. It was all greatly appreciated by the workers. I wish that there was someone for every town that was able to help others out.

Well, that is really amazing what he is doing. Sad to note that nobody is doing that here in our area or near our area. Perhaps this person has kind heart. May it be for tax purposes or not, I still say that its really a great thing for people.

Yes, he does have a kind heart. I do not know for sure if he uses this as a write off on his taxes but it don't matter, it is the good that he is doing and does all year round for different organizations. He has the money and wishes to help others. We need more like him around.

tyc,
If there were at least one person in every city that would do that very thing, giving out turkeys, then maybe someone else would consider doing something equally generous. What a simple but very generous gesture on behalf of this lawyer. Why don't more people who can afford it do more things like this for our people in our cities? What a great personal sense of satisfaction it must feel like. I would love to be the person in my city that does something like that. If I ever manage to get out of this financial hole that has been our way of life for too long now, I vow to somehow some way to give back on behalf of anyone that has givin to me, no matter how small a gesture it may have been.
That lawyer deserves a lot of appreciation.

I like when some people does that...because of the fact that not all families will gonna have turkey during thanksgiving. It would be hard for other people to do that because of small income. May the Lord bless him more.

Nope. If someone does that here in my country or in my village people will go crazy. Some probably will fight who came first in the line. And it would cause riots and everything. That lawer needs to be reccommended. Only few people do that. My heart long to do that someday to the kids family we are ministering here in the Phils.
