My bedtime every night is very regular and a little earlier compared to my friends. By all odds, i should get up in time in the next morning, but in fact when my dear alarm clock rings, i'm really unwilling to get up and always take three or four minutes to turn over and go on narrowing my eyes. After several mimutes, i still have to get up so as not to be late for work. If there were no alarm clock, i would really be unable to get up in time every morning. What about you, guys, do you have to wake up with the help of your alarm clock every morning?

My hubby and I used to wake up to an alarm all the time. We still do sometimes. It's usually our dog waking us up now. She has become our alarm clock. She seems to wake us up at the exact time we need to wake up, no matter what. I am not very good at waking up anyway, but with a little dog in your face, it seems to help me.

Once I was a kid, I used alarm to get up. But as I grew up, I never use it. I will tell you how all it started. I use to get up at 5.30 AM in the morning everyday when I was a kid to practice yoga. I was doing it for a long time. And one day I forgot to set the alarm before I went to sleep. But, on that day, I woke up exactly at 5.30 AM as usual without the use of alarm. At that day I realized, "wow I got up without alarm, why not let me try for an other day". I woke up the next day too. And from that day, I never use alarm but wake up exactly at 5.30 AM. I believe its all about practice. Once for a long time, I practiced using alarm and now I wake up without it. Its all about practice if you ask me.

Getting up early in the morning is a good habit. I also use to sleep early at night and try my best to get up early in the morning. But I also think that sleeping for a prescribed period is necessary. Medical science tells that we should sleep at least 7 and a half hour every night. Some people sleep more than prescribed period and some less than the period stated here. Complete sleep is very important for mental and physical health. Asleep makes the brain of a person active and fresh. Morning hours are better for those want to work in writing or typing type. I am an early bird and like to be early bird as it has real enjoyment chances of life

Glad to hear that you are an early bird. I usually have about 7 to 8 hours a day, but sometimes i think it's not enough especially in winter ,and still, it's so cold that i'm really unwilling to get out of bed. :( Thanks for sharing your views!

I uses only my alarm clock when I have an early appointment or I ned to get up at a specified morning time. But ordinarily I woke up just the same time everyday just in time for my preparation for my work. But these few days I have to set my alarm to wake me up for the dawn masses in celebration of the Christmas Day. Merry Christmas Happy New Year!

Hello linglingking, I set the alarm clock every night and it does help me wake up every morning, but I would like to add a few comments. Sometimes I awake a few seconds before the alarm goes off, which I find strange and shows that we humans also have instincts like other animals, as to what time it is. Secondly, I often get up to turn off the alarm and then go back to bed for a further 30 minutes or so. The bed is always lovely and warm and I wait for myself to wake up. This has become such a fixed routine that I sometimes get up automatically (I say automatically, because I cannot remember doing it aterwards), turn off the alarm and go back to sleep. Thankfully this happens rarely, but it can happen...
Have a good weekend. Umart

I sometimes wake up before the alarm clock goes off like you and also get up to turn it off and then go back to my warm bed. But i'm allowed by myself to stay in bed for only for five minutes at most so as not to be late for work, because every morning i have a regular time schedule for getting up, washing, making up, eating breakfast, departing from my home, getting on the bus....Thanks for your comments.

You have the same experience with one of my friends, who also wake uo early at wekends. One funny thought cited from her is, "every weekday morning I just make up my lost sleep at weekends!" Thanks for sharing your comments with me!

Hello Linglingking,
Yes, I do need the help of my alarm clock to wake me up every morning. My internal clock is out of sync and it don't work regularly so I need the help of an alarm clock to be on time at work. It is really hard if I just depend on my self to wake up. I will be late because I wake up when there is already some sunshine shining on me. I am using my cellphone as an alarm clock now. Not like before that you have a separate alarm clock. So I think it's another use of cellphone to keep you on time with your appointment.
Regards.

Yes, cell phone is a good tool as an alarm clock to keep us on time, besides, the ringing tune is also pleasant to our ears! I used to use it, but now i use a separate alarm clock because i'm afraid my cell phone runs out of power some day. That will make me in trouble.:) Thanks for your response.

I do have an alarm set, but usually open my eyes around 6:30am and close them right back again as I tell myself, 1 hour more of sleep then out of bed...however when 7:30am comes, I just don't feel like getting out of bed no matter what day it is or what is happening. So an alarm clock does help to make sure I don't get to work late by just laying in bed

You give yourself more sleep for even one hour every morning! Wow, it's so long! But i wonder whether your alarm clock will go off again one hour later,or you will not be able to get up on time?

Yeah I have to have the help of an alarm clock to get me up of a morning. I also have a mobile phone alarm set too just in case my main alarm clock lets me down for any reason. I would never get up if I did not have my alarms, I reckon I would sleep most of the morning away if I did not set them!

Actually i sometimes wake up before the alarm clock ringing. But i still need to have the help of my alarm clock, because i never trust my body clock, even though it sometimes works well. Setting alarm clock has become one of my daily habits.

I use the alarm clock in my cellphone, I set it to a tone that I enjoy hearing in the morning. There are so many annoying typical noises that come from different alarms. I love the option of putting an alarm clock on snooze then I can set it earlier than my actual time I'm suppose to get up at and it also lets me take my time in the mornings. If I didn't have one then no I would not get up either
Have a great day

The ringing tone of my alarm clock is also very pleasant to listen to. It's a good suggestion that i set my clock earlier than the actual time. Thanks for your response!

I have a very special alarm clock that I'd have a lot of trouble doing without. She has four paws, a long tail and she meows. She wakes me up every morning so I don't forget to give her breakfast. She walks on me and rubs her face on my mouth and chin. If that doesn't work, she says Meow quite loudly. I turn over, and she lies down on my hip. She's heavy there and eventually, I get out of bed. I don't think morning would ever arrive without my Josie alarm clock.

I am able to wake up on my own but then the reliability is about 98%. Due to the other 2%, I still need to have an alarm clock to sort of force me to wake up in the morning.
I am using my cellphone as my alarm clock as it allows me to set up to 6 alarm to run simultaneously. I only need to use two of them. The first alarm is set to 6:00am as that's the time I need to wake up and do my morning prayers. Once this is done, normally I would fall back to sleep and the next alarm, that is set to 8:00am will be doing its job to get me to go to work.
Under normal circumstances, I would just press the snooze button and it will go on snooze mode for 9 minutes before giving me the alarm again. So, almost every morning it would be like this:
8:00am Alarm - action = snooze
8:09am Alarm - action = snooze
8:18am Alarm - action = snooze
8:27am Alarm - action = alarm off + wake up
Cheers!

It used to be true ten years before, when I needed help of alarm or wake up call to wake up from sleep. But now it is opposite. I can not sleep sound without any reason. I am not mentally depressed or suffering for any disease which may cause sleepiness, but I mostly I can not have sound sleep. I can sleep at stretch for about 1 to a.5 hours then wake up and remain awake for about 1 or 2 hours then sleep again for about 1 -2 hours and wake up.
I do not know how to get rid from this situation, doctors will advise sleeping pill which I do not want.
You are lucky that you can have sound sleep and need alarm to wake you up. I want to be like you, if possible.

How about your getting up at weekends baby? For me, alarm clock in the morning of working days is definitely a necessary. I think without the alarm clock, I won't get up on time for work. However, when it comes to weekends, I could easily get up without any alarm or reminding, and even earlier than working days. One thought always wandering me, I should cherish and control every minute of my leisure time. Then, I normally wake up earlier on weekends than working days.
Sometimes I have an interesting thought, why it is so hard for me to get up in those working days? Because I have to make up for the lost minutes in the weekends:)

How funny your thought is! At weekends, i'm awakened naturally, because i think i need to catch up on my lost shut-eye in the past five working days. Hah, it's just the opposite of yours. Anyway i have a regular getting-up time every weekend, that is between 8:30 and 9:00.

I hope that I never have to use an alarm clock again! I have been waking up to natural daylight for many years and I am so pleased with this method! I guess it's far healthier when you wake up to natural daylight as opposed to waking up to a disturbing racket coming from an alarm clock. I must admit, I do like those funny alarm clocks like Bart Simpson and so forth! I suppose an alarm clock can really help when you have to wake up very early in the mornings. Thankfully I don't have to do this but I have been there! Once upon a time I was waking up about 5am and my eyes were screaming at me to give them a break! Anyway, those days are over! Andrew

How envious I am that you never have to use an alarm clock again. Fortunately the ringing tone of my alarm clock is very pleasant to listen, and that's why i chose it as my reminder. Thanks for your comments!

Yes! I use my cellphone as my alarm clock. The snooze facility in it is really a boon,if you want to extend your sleep a little bit.In my childhood, there are only alarm clocks without snooze failities, with which you have to get up at the first alarm or you miss it.And one thing more to add,If you are really keen about getting up early in a time(you like to meet a person you like so much),then you need no alarm and your mind will do.

Gone are the days when we used to use those little alarm clocks to jolt us out of sleep! Ever since the mobile phone has come into being, I dont remember using the little clocks. Snooze really really is a boon for those of us who love to extend their sleeping time by a few minutes & get immense pleasure from doing so! :)

It's a kind of painful experience of getting out of your warm bed in a cold winter morning day. Everybody has an inner body clock to tell you to wake up, it is set up by your daily habit. If you develop a routine habit of going to bed in a fixed time, you can wake up in a specific time of the morning. No matter how precise of yor bodyclock, you still need to set up alarm clock before u go to bed.

No. I don't need an alarm clock. I am a freelancer and I am in control of my time.
Perhaps if there is a very critical project that needs to be done for a client then I surely need that one.

I dont think I can do without an alarm clock at all, especially when there is a schedule to adhere to. I usually set the alarm atleast 15 minutes before I have to get up as I need to keep snoozing a few times - makes me more satisfied that I have grabbed a couple of more minutes to sleep! Those last few minutes give me so much pleasure, and always leave myself wishing I had a few more ;) I mostly never forget to set my alarm but there are exceptions when I have been a little lost & have forgotten to do so & the next day have invariable gotten late! On holidays though, I dont need the alarm to disturb my sleep, but suprisingly those are the days when I do stir a bit around my daily scheduled time of getting up!

I seldom forget setting my alarm clock during weekdays. One reason is maybe it has become a habbit for me to set it every weeknight. The other is that my little brother is so naughty that he often resets the ringing time much earlier or later. So i have to check if my clock is set to the proper time. On a Saturday morning, i should have a chance to lie in, but at around six o'clock, i was being awakened from a sound sleep by the ringing alarm clock. My first thought was it was certainly my brother's doing! How crazy I was then!
