Quite a few years ago I came to the conclusion that all things happen for the best. I know some people who didn't feel that way at one time, but have since changed their mind. I think it has something to do with age and people starting to look back over the years. There are also some people who think the idea is ridiculous and say there's no way that it could be true. What do you think?

No sorry I dont' believe that line. Many things in my life I have done and found out that it wasn't for the best, what looked good at the time turned out to be really bad for me. And as you look back over your life you can see where you messed up and try not to do the same thing again. Yes as you get older you find that you are smarter and can make better decissions in your life, and know when something would be bad for you, as a young person you tend to go where it looks like the grass is greener and most times that is not where you should be.

I believe that whatever happens there is something for our best only as we learn and grow from each good or bad experience. I everyone must be positive about life otherwise we cannot live this life.Yes, age does matter to this as age adds experiences also. Today I am grateful to God that he has given me experiences which made me learn and grow into a good person.

I believe things happen for a reason. I think they happen for a very good reason. It might be that the best reason for a thing to happen is precisely that which makes it happen. cheers!!

In my own thinking and understanding based on my experience, things do happen for or with a purpose. It can be for the best and for the worsts, it depends because some things happens to us because of what we had chosen to or because of the choice with made in the past. Something happens to us when we don't expect it at all, but that's life.

I think everything has a place and purpose. Call me idealistic, relgious, hopeful, or a fool, but I think everything happens for the better. If there was nothing bad that happened to me when I was younger, I wouldn't be the person I am today. I believe I turned to be a pretty well rounded person.

I do agree with you. I am a Christian so I do believer that God allows certain things to happen, even if we do not understand them there and then. I never could understand why I failed an important examination to acquire a job as a clerk in a government department. This made me work more harder go to university, get a profession and earn a better salary.

I do think all things happen for the best. It just may not look like it is for our own best. But even with awful things, good things or wise things can come out of it. It may be years before we know, but it is much better for me at least to keep the faith that out of the bad, comes good.

Hi Pose, I am a great believer in that philosophy. It is what keeps me alive and happy. :)
So, even if the worst happens to me, I try to find the good in it. I think it is a great way to live.
Cheers and happy mylotting

I guess this is true when you look at things on hindsight.
However, at the moment when the event happens, especially when it's a bad event, you may not feel so.
Everything happens for a reason and everything that happens, whether good or bad, teaches us a lesson in life.
Now the problem lies with whether we want to go through that lesson or not. Some lessons in life, I wish I never had to go through. It's quite painful to go through but it did make me stronger, somehow. Some lessons in life are valuable and I'll keep it to heart.
Since things that have happened cannot be changed, it's best to think that all things happen for the best. Life can be quite miserable if we keep thinking that life or things could be better if I had done that.

My granmother used to say this all the time.
Everything happens for the best.
And you know what, everytime something happens in a way that you don't like, it turns out that it's better that happened like that.
All it takes, is try not to be angry and blame others for something that did not happen as you waned. You'll see, in time, there is always a reason for what happened.

I've got to believe it does! Romans 8:28 says it does. It's actually a great promise to us! Sometimes it doesn't seem right at first, or maybe we don't understand it, but it is always for our good. It's quite awesome to think about!

I do not think that all things happen for the best. I do think that sometimes when a bad thing happens, then there is another alternative, but it might not have been as good as the one before. For instance, if you did not jump into the watering hole when you were a child, you would not have been a paraplegic and you would have become a first class sprinter, and got a scholarship to University, or maybe you could have gotten a good job and supported your parents.
But now you have a different reality because you are in a wheelchair, so you take up working on prosthetic, and you may not get as good a scholarship, and maybe you cannot support your parents, so they have to keep renting their apartment until they are in their sixties.
So what happens is that you are given a different kind of circumstances. The first time, you were able to get your parents out when they were in their forties, but the reality was now because you broke your back, you had to wait until they were in their sixties and the worse thing is that you can no longer have children. If you had not made that foolish mistake, you would have given your parents grandchildren.
Now I am assuming that the person talked about is quite ambitious and a go getter.
And I think that personalities do not change because of circumstances in spite of what people say.

Hello Pose. All things happen for the best, which to some degree depends on our own attitude towards them. A positive thought and mind sees the positive sides of all things whereas a negative one makes a different story. Thank you for the discussion. Take care.

Yes there is no doubt in my mind. "All things Happen for the best!" Of course thats not exactly true because there is no happenstance, and there are no accidents. All things are a Part of The Grand Design. Take for instance, WW2! Looking back on that with millions of deaths, and destruction like no one would believe, its very hard to find anything good about it, and yet It changed the world for the better. Medical, Scientific, Ideological, and more advances in many areas. Theses advances have made the world a much better place in which to live.

hi pose...it's not that all things happen for the best. it's that some good can come out of bad things. for good plant life it takes some good manure to fertilize the plants.
