What do you think of this? This scares the bejesus out of me. I have a teen aged daughter that is constantly texting friends. She also has a camera and video in her phone. I watched a clip on the Today Show, and I can see how easy it would be to fall into this. This is something we are talking about today. Where do you come in on that.

I don't believe teens should have cell phones or their own computer or any of that. I don't even own a cell phone, I'm so against them. Granted I never go anywhere. Hubby could use one for work, but we can't afford to get him one. My kids will probably never have a cell phone until they can pay for it themselves. They'll also never have their own computer for internet use. If they need to get online they can use my computer, so that I can monitor what they've been doing.

You're right Laydee, and the fact that their coming down on parents who punish their kids with occasional spankings is making more and more parents afraid to discipline their kids, which makes even more kids go out of control. It's a never ending cycle.

I also have seen tv programs addressing this. Some school kids sent my teenage niece some inappropriate photos on her phone so my brother had her picture/video mail locked so she can not send or receive any photos. She can still send and receive text messages but no photo or video mail.

Call the company that services the phone and tell them you want picture/video mail shut off on that one phone number, it can always be turned back when you want.

That is why I will not get my kids a cell phone. i grew up without one as a kid and so can they. I mean there are enough things we have to protect our kids against why and another to the list. When they have a job they can get and pay for there own if they really want one thats there choice but till then i dont have to worry about this at least.

Hi Laglen. Your daughter is growing uP and it is but evedent that she will start getting interest in this things. You can forcibly ask her not to do these things but that won't have an effect. It is better you have an open discussion with her and make her aware of the different problems. Take her in confidence and I think that will solve the problem.

I think with the morals now days it sadly sounds about right. We have friends with benefits now, sleeping around, so this fits in. That said I find it sad and really wish we could take things back where things were more innocent; But those days seem to be gone. That said, my kids dont do this as they dont have all these new items that arent really a need. None of mine have owned a cell, until they moved out. We have a computer that they share in the same home office as mine, where I can over watch what they are doing if I feel the need too. Kids are growing up way to fast these days so why help them?

What do I think? I think that's messed up and shows what's wrong with today's youth. Their parents must be so proud!

That bothers me, too. I don't have any children home, but my daughter has 4 with phones. I don't think they would ever do that, but kids follow the lead of their peers sometimes, doing things they'd never do on their own. I don't think my granddaughter would do it, though. She'll be 19 in March and never had any problems with her, well, or the boys, either (one is 20). But she does have one turning 15 today and one almost 13. I know it has happened with on teenage girl in their school and it got passed around to all the boys. But she was considered a tramp anyway, which is bad at her age. It's something she'll never live down.

Never let your daughter have a computer and webcam in her room. Teens tend to "flash" people in chat rooms and guys try to get them to "show".

All I have to say is WHY CAN'T I BE A KID AGAIN!!! OK to be serious, these kids don't know where the pictures end up. Pretty much they all end up somewhere besides the phones. These pictures first start on my-space then end up on amateur adult sites exploiting them! Seems that its not really a big problem to them as it may help them get popular. There are actually places out there that have banned pics and videos from youtube and photobucket. Now if they got banned by the public then how did they end up on certain sites? More skin you show now a days the more hotter you are!!

Goodness!! What news and worries a parent has to hear!! But i'm only 18, and i think parents' advice and guidance still plays the most vital role. You really should advice your daugther about the dangers of the internet. At least, you're assured that your kid knows about the dangers about it.

Kids will be kids. They do dumb stuff. I know I did :D I don't think banning phones and computers makes sense though, unless you want your kids to be technologically and socially retarded (considering how important this stuff is becoming to communication nowadays).

wow thats scarey. My kids are too young to have phones yet but I'm sure by the time they are that age they will come up with something new for them to do. Anyway my husband was getting pictures on his phone and running up our bill so I called the company and told them to block it. The bad thing is we can't text either but hey he should of been opening the pictures.

Number one, if I had a teen, she or he would not have a phone that does anything more than call people, IF they were driving, only. There is no reason for a teen who does not drive to own a phone. I am sorry, they abuse them. I see it over and over. If my teen had a facebook or myspace, or any other such site, I would have to have their password and be able to check it out and I would have a program on my computer that tracks what they do. Is that being nosy? Damned right!!! That is what parents are supposed to do, make sure that they stay on the straight and narrow. They have enough time away from us to be sneaky so why give them more reasons. I started a myspace, xanga, facebook and a few others to keep an eye on my students and found several who were doing things that there parents did not know about and let the parents know. They had no clue!! If I found out my teen had put out naked pictures, there would be huge consequences for that, believe me!! Kids are allowed to watch, hear and read too much racy stuff. You cannot stop all of it but you can discuss it, try to control it as much as possible but it takes time and effort. Too many parents do not want to parent anymore.

This is why my son has a basic Tracphone. No fancy features. Just the basics. The same applies to our computer. It sits in the middle of the house (the dining room). We have no web cam. I saw a policeman on TV say that there is absolutely no reason in the world for a teen to have a web cam. It's not for school. It's not for anything but trouble. Kids make poor decisions. Some gadgets are like loaded weapons. Kids can't see around corners. They REALLY don't understand the consequences of their actions. Dr. Phil has quoted medical experts that say that the teen brain is actually NOT finished yet. The neurons for logical thought are not totally connected yet. The same with impulse control. We need to take the loaded weapons out of their hands. We can't watch them 24 hours a day. We need to protect them from themselves.

I'm not gona preach to you. but God did make our body's to be proud of as our timple. (BUT) He did not expect everone to enter in. kid's now day's think's. if this one did it, and nothing happened, why can't I you need to explain to them you all ways have to live down what you lived up. I told my children, one day maybe a chance will come your way and you will be famous,or a politicion, or even a minister.the new's has a way, of finding the littlest things there is (if it will belittle you, and make a name for them) smear your name in the mud. how would they like it if they were running for a job of a life time, and all this came out? and there companion seen this or even worst, there children. that's not even the end line. what about the predators with the internet. they can tract down your address real easy now. and lay in wait. some times you have to do a realty check with your kid's. I had five I do know a little about this.

I think that is terrible. I think kids are growing to fast these days, and I think it is due to this technology. My son is 15 and he does have a cell phone, which his dad pays for, but he hasn't used it due to it being so expensive. It does not have a camera or video on it. Every kid practically at school has one. But he has learned that we just can't afford any of these things. So I have no worries. I hope that your daughter isn't involved in doing these things. I just think they are to young. Man, when I was a teen there wasn't any cell phones, computers, video games, or other high tech things. I lived. I think its crazy the teens thinking today they cant live without their cell phones.
