It depends on few things actually. One of them is of course your budget. How much is it? Are you looking for a high end or beginner type of camera? How much megapixel are you looking for? Which type of memory card do you prefer, flash or SD? Most newer cameras are using SD. Do you want HD enabled video catching camera? Do you prefer SLR which you can change the lens or do you need a camera which allows you to change filter? Or you just want a simple camera?
I'm a big fan of Canon and some of my friends prefer Nikon. I would recommend these 2 brands and stay clear of the rest.

Hello arkadeb. I have two digital cameras. One is a Canon one, the other is a new one that I bought in November 2008. It is a Samsung one, very cheap, which took me only 900 RMB. One RMB is around seven US dollars. Yesterday I fixed my eyes on the laptop screen almost the whole day, from morning till night before my going to sleep at eleven. I felt very tired in the eyes and buttock from watching and sitting too long.

Hi williamjisir, all your posts have some quality, I must admit. If I could have the quality.. The photo you uploaded is of nice quality and details are quite visible. Specially when considered with the price you paid. Actually I am on budget. So I am looking for one which gives reasonably good picture and costs low. Thsi one satisfies both the criteria. I must visit my local store to have a look.
Thanks for response..

I agree with this. If you want a point-and-shoot, the Sony Cybershot series are definitely recommended. Hell, if I ain't upgrading to DSLR, I would've bought a Cybershot for an upgrade. One of the amazing features of the Sony digicam is the face recognition feature where the face is rendered always sharp and on focus in every picture.
Cheers and good luck!

As one poster mentioned, it is difficult to answer this question without knowing what you're looking for in a camera and I would add what you're going to use it for. I sell cameras and the cameras that I recommend most often are Sony and Canon. They are both high quality brands. You'll want to know how many megapixels you're looking for (anything over 6 will give you a good picture). Are you looking for a camera that uses AA batteries or a rechargeable lithium ion? In my experience cameras that use AA's suck up a lot of batteries so if that's your choice, always carry some extras with you. Are you planning to shoot a lot of pictures in low light settings? ie indoors. If so, you'll want a camera with a good ISO rating. Sony Cybershot (7.2 megapixels and 8.1 megapixels) have an ISO rating of 3200 (excellent) and also shoot in hi def and you can view your pictures on TV if you have an HD TV. The Olympus that a previous poster mentioned is my new favorite camera. For the money, you really can't beat it. Very versatile and very durable. I also like Nikons. Be careful with the remaining brands out there. Sony, Canon, Olympus and Nikon are the brands that are least returned to the store.

Hi friend LaurenInLA, thanks for your post. Actually i want one which can be used both for indoor and outdoor, gives reasonably good picture, can capture video may be limited, can be used by all and is not much costly. You are the right person as you sell cameras. Can you give the prices in Indian Rupee as I am in India?

Prices will vary but the Olympus camera that the previous poster mentioned costs about $14,577 rupees. The Nikon Coolpix costs $4,826 rupees. There are 2 Sony cameras that are excellent indoor/outdoor cameras. The 7.2 megapiuxel costs $8,727 rupees and the 8.1 megapixel model costs $9,702 rupees. Hope that this helps. If you need any additional information, please pm me. Good luck.

hi friend. i have a sony digital camera. i amhappy with its features. but my friend has a canon. he feels that it is much better. i can't compare as i have not used his camera much. but canon is much cheaper than sony. so you may go for one of these makers based on budget.

I can't suggest a make or model...there is so much I don't know about the kind of photos you are interested in, your budget, your experience... Go to betterphoto.com, where they have a "camera finder" that helps you narrow down your search by ticking a few boxes.

I have both FZ and LZ Pnasonics. I think that they have to be top of each range they compete in; however, the new Canons look really good on paper.
