I know the doctors say you're not supposed to eat before you go to bed, but if I'm hungry before bed I eat. Right now I'm having an omelet and a couple of pieces of bacon. I did learn NOT to eat bananas before bed, boy can you have strange dreams!!!
Do you eat before you go to bed if you're hungry? If you do what do you eat?

I eat before I go to bed all the time or I would wake up in the middle of the night hungry as a bear and then end up having a midnight or later snack attack. So if I am hungry yes I do eat. But I didn't know that about the bananas before..I have on several occasions and recently given my little sister bananas before bed..well now I know not to.

Yeah some dreams are so real feeling it can shaken you bad.. I know the feeling I have woken up like that and couldn't get back to sleep because I was still scared even though I knew it was a dream cause it seemed so real.

If it is hot, I mean really hot, no, I find I wake up with hot flashs when I do. I haven't done that in years during the summer.
But if its winter, and not just before bed, I'll eat a light meal.
I don't eat banana's, they agrivate my corn allergy...

This is going to be a fun response...I have Willy and Khuay in my lap while I am trying to type.
I am very fussy about the bananas I eat. I prefer them to be just a touch on the green side. If they get too ripe they make me sick. You in a way are lucky because you won't ever be tempted to eat a banana before bed. Wow, those dreams are awful!
What makes the whole banana thing odd is that I am allergic to both banana extract and penicillin. One whiff of banana extract and I throw up big time. It comes from when I was growing up and had to take banana flavored penicillin. I hurled that big time. So, to this day I can't handle either of them.

I try to not eat before going to bed, knowing that it isn't good for me..If I do, I make it something light like popcorn, so that I am not too full..So, bananas are a no-no?? Gives you strange dreams huh? I didn't know that..

Both my Mom and I have had strange dreams after eating bananas before bedtime. I was woken up one night by my Mom's hollering. I raced to her room to find her sitting up in bed. She dreamed that she was in Chicago and there were mobsters all around her shooting when a herd of monkeys came racing through...throwing stuff including bananas. Try not to laugh at that one!
A couple of months ago I was hungry before bed and grabbed a banana to satisfy the hunger...well I ended up in this strange land with trolls, ogres and strange beasts. One of the ugliest strange beasts wanted me to marry him...when I said no he decided to eat me. UGH, NO MORE BANANAS BEFORE BEDTIME!!!! I will say that when I woke up Monica was kissing me (she's one of my mini dachshunds).

I have added omelets and bacon to the not eat before you go to bed list. I had more strange dreams... This one was about my daughter and her husband. My late Mom was there too and fortunately I woke up before it really got extremely STRANGE!

Hi LoveBear, I do eat before go to bed, if I'm hungry, once you hungry, you can not sleep, but I'm not eat so many food you eat, I just choose a cup of hot drink and some biscuit to eat. Don't eat too much my friend, it easier to get fat.

I try not to eat too much just before bed...but there are times I'm so hungry that I could eat the whole house. Fortunately I live in the country and I work around the house like crazy. I cut and stack fire wood, garden for not only myself but also some neighbors, clean up after four dogs and four inside cats and am currently remodeling my kitchen and renovating my home that I inherited from my folks.
I usually will have a cup of soup or something like that. During the summer I will have some salad or raw veggies. (NO BANANAS!! ) My biggest problem right now is that I have so much chest and abdominal pain that it is hard to distinguish the pain of hunger from the chronic pain. Right now I am testing foods to see which hurts the least to eat. I am able to eat lots of rice with a little chicken or turkey in with it. I did a stir fry with chicken, pineapple, snap peas, bean sprouts and mushrooms--it was excellent and I didn't hurt too much from eating it. I have some left that I am going to warm up for lunch tomorrow.
Thanks for the advice...I definitely won't eat too much, I don't want to gain a lot of unnecessary weight.

Oh yeah I know, because your metabolism slows down and you can't burn so many calories when asleep as when doing certain activities. And so you might gain weight. But is that the only reason why they reccomend not eating before going to bed?
If it is, then it might not affect some people. I always eat before going to bed :) And I just maintain my weight.
I can't help it, because I have a certain schedule that somehow I always end up to eat in the afternoon first and then only in the evening (meaning 8 - 9 pm...) Or even later sometimes. It all depends on what I do that day.
I usually eat whatever I feel in the mood then. I like bananas :) But I haven't eaten any in the evenings so far as I remember...
I never heard about bananas giving you strange dreams, but I did hear this about yogurt. :) I don't know why exactly yogurt, but that person said you'd dream about food all night :)
I like to drink milk sometimes before going to bed. I have some problems falling asleep, so I'm trying anything that might help me.
Anyway, I don't think it matter the time you eat, as much as when you go to bed. You're not supposed to eat right before going to bed. But if you eat at 9 pm and still don't go to bed until 12, you're ok I guess.
You're supposed to eat at least an hour before going to bed.
I usually fall asleep at about 2 - 3 am...

Hi Loverbear! It may be tempting to eat at night before bed but I really didn't want to eat during evenings because I was trying to follow my diet plans. The pang of hungriness overpowered my motivation not to eat at night so, I obeyed what my tummy asked for.
Biscuits are fine, but whenever I see some leftover rice and viand available, I would eat what was left to be eaten.
Happy Holidays!

I keep rice cakes on hand for snacks. It may sound strange but I really love them and don't consider them as diet food. I try not to eat too much heavy food before bed, but with my weird system it doesn't always work. Plus I have constant chest and abdominal pain which is hard to decide what is hunger pain and what is physical pain. So I nibble through the day to check and see what is what. But my nibbles are fruit and veggies. Give me sugar peas, green beans, tomatoes, and carrots where I can grab a handful and much I'm happy. Since I live alone I have gotten to the point of rather than trying to cook a whole meal I eat frozen dinners.

I try not to and alot of times I don't. My parents would always say not to eat bananas before bed or peanut butter b/c it sticks to your chest. I wonder if there is really any truth to that. I'm with you though if I'm hungry I will eat if not my stomach would wake me up making all kind of noise lol.

i do eat before going to bed but i make sure that what i eat is not a heavy meal because i have discovered that anytime i take a heavy meal before sleeping,i wake up starving and very hungry, but in any case i sleep late so i eat late at night so it really does not make much difference to me

Bananas causing strange dreams? I've never heard of that. Of course, I would not be a good person to test that on because I have weird dreams almost every night. I do eat before bed if I'm really hungry. If I don't, I wake up and feel terrible in the morning because my blood sugar got so low during the night.

I eat before I go to bed, but I've never tried a banana, I wonder what is in them to cause the dreams, maybe you've discovered a new psychedelic substance. I have heard of people smoking the skins, but never any mind distortion.

Sometimes I will eat before I go to bed, even though I know it's a big no no. And it's usually something to satisfy my sweet tooth...like a cookie or ice cream or something chocolate. I've had the 'bad banana dreams' too. I've stayed well away from those things at night. LOL

Sometimes i do eat before i sleep but most of the time i would drink a lot of water. It's the temptation of having leftovers from dinner. All those yummy looking food would tempt me to munch on them. Well most of the time i would eat rice with a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Sometimes I would simply cook some pasta or instant noodle to quench my hunger
Consuming a lot of water is bad news too. I have to make sure that i wouldn't drink too much water before i sleep.

I have pre-diabetes, so my doctor told me to eat before going to bed to keep my blood sugar lowered in the morning.

how funny! it's the first time that I have heard of the banana story! I think I will try it out later since i have a few bananas in the pantry I usually eat dinner like 4 or 5 hours before i sleep because i find it uncomfortable to be full right before sleeping. Sometimes though i get really hungry and sneak in a bite or two though I usually like to eat the BAD stuff at night such as chips, pizza, chocolate. haha!

Hi loverbear! I'm with you! I didn't learn to eat healthy
things before I went to bed either! In fact my mom is 78
years old and is the biggest junk food junkie around! She
can sit down and eat an entire candy bar, and I mean one of
those big ones like Hersheys or Nestles in one sitting and
then eat some potato chips and that will be her dinner! And
she is thin and looks nowhere near her age! In fact, I look
older than she does! We were never taught to eat the right
things, except for dinner and stuff when we were kids. But,
after dinner it was whatever we felt like eating! I have
always been a night muncher and I eat whatever I feel like too!
So if I wanted eggs and bacon that's what I would eat! My
usual stuff is cake and cookies and junk, but sometimes I
actually want some real food!
