Question About Lounge Pants

I never question anyone on what they want to wear for clothing. Everyone has their idea of what is fashionable. But, I have a question about lounge pants. These are the nice flannel or fleece pants you can buy to lounge around the house in or wear as pajamas.
When I was out running errands today with my DIL and grandchildren, we spotted a woman crossing the parking lot sporting a pair of pink and blue flannel lounge pants. We both looked at each other at the same time and smirked.
So the question is, would you wear lounge pants out in public or do you consider them only to wear in the comfort and privacy of your home?

Most people I see wearing them look like they just climbed out of bed.

Lounge pants are good to wear in the public if they look like regular pants, or jogging pants. I have seen may teens wearing pajamas pants in the public.
It all depends, latest style in some communities is to wear pajamas or lounge pants for shopping.

Pink and blue? Ewww what a strange combo LOL! I like to be casual, comfortable and I don't care if I don't look fashionable or have the latest labels but I do draw the line at wearing something like this out in public, use for gardening or for the home yes but out in full view of public? Either the woman's a bit simple, lazy or doesn't give a flying f*rt! But I am sure she gave people a laugh, and that in itself is priceless!

Gosh, I won't even wear them outside when I am at home. I have worn sweats to work in the garden, but never lounge pants. But, I do sit behind the computer with my lounge pants when I am at home.

No, I would not wear flannel or fleece pajama pants as if they were outer wear. I will wear and do wear, velour pants and hoodies, from time to time. They strike me as not quite professional, though, and also more appropriate for leisure time. I have a couple of pair of pastel knit pants that I also consider to be more like pajamas than "clothes" and do not wear them real often. I have a hard time bringing myself to wear just sweats, either.

I wear lounge pants out in public... it depends on where i'm going and how i'm feeling... i've wore them before and i would again.. i'm not going to change clothes just to go to the corner store or something or to run to target since its right by my house... lol i'm too lazy too do that.. and then i'd want to change back when i got home.. nah...they are comfortable and i don't care if people see me in them.. i'm not out to impress anyone so its whatever. i' will look like a dirty bum that just rolled out of bed if i feel like it lol
sometimes that look is cute anyway.. of course it depends on the person sporting it though....

My husband and daughter will wear them out. I am beginning to think that my daughter has no other clothes. Although I know better. My husband will wear them to get gas, or on a quick trip, but I won't, I would feel weird.

If I had to run a quick errand that I didn't have to get out of the car for, I would change into the appropriate clothing. You never know when the car will break down!

I wouldn't do it but I have seen lots of people who do. I don't think it's right. My kids would do it if I let them. My kids live in their pjs. When it is time to go out somewhere my younger daughter pulls on her soccer warm-up pants over top of her "lounge pants".
Maybe it's just me but I don't even like seeing a man in his sleeveless undershirt or what they call muscle shirts. Call me a prude but I just think it's gross. When you are out in public you should dress appropriately. What one person's definition of appropriate is obviously going to be different from another person's. *shrug* Think of the old saying, "Always wear clean underwear in case you are in an accident." What happened if you dressed in your pjs and ran into your boss at the store? Or your church pastor?

I mean no offense to you when I say this, but for me, if I ran into my church pastor while I had to run out to buy milk and I was in my pajama pants and he had a problem with it...I might need to find a less judgemental church! As for my boss...well, for starters I'm a nanny, so most of my bosses have seen my PJ pants at one point or another. But even if that weren't the case, what I do and wear when they're not paying me is really none of their business, in my opinion.

I don't worry about being judged. I don't care what people think. I would perhaps be embarrassed. We have seen our Pastor riding his bicycle with a basket on the front of it wearing t-shirt and shorts. He looked funny with his skinny white legs. But he is human too and he sure knows he will not be judged. It's not about being judged, it's about feeling good about yourself and portraying that to the world.

It is. I remember from when I was in high school (not that long ago), most of the girls wore pajama pants to school on a daily basis.

Hello ElusiveButterfly. I think that it is better to wear lounge pants at home rather in public. Sometimes I see the same case as you have seen, friend. But I will never do the same because I won't feel comfortable this way in public.

I only wear them around the house, but I've seen college kids wear them to school.
If I'm only running my son to school in the morning and not getting out of the car, I'll wear them, and then go back to bed when I get home, haha.

Generally speaking, I only wear my pajama pants at home. They ARE great to clean in! But if I have to run to the store on short notice, or just to pick up milk or something like that, then yes, I'll wear a pair out of the house from time to time - it's not worth dirtying more laundry over a gallon of milk. But I only do that when I'm already wearing such pants - I don't consider my pajama pants part of my typical wardrobe.

As someone working in the fashion industry, I would NEVER suggest to wear those outside the house unless you´re taking out the garbage, some people just don´t care the way they look and they´re happy wearing this kind of clothing because it´s more comfortable but that needs to be limited to be worn indoors.

My daughter, when she was younger, used to go to the store in her "lounge pants" or pj bottoms. I hated it. I would not go with her. I can't stand to see people out and about in their pj bottoms. It drives me nuts. I won't even go out in sweat pants. Although I'd rather see someone out in sweats than in lounge pants. I think that lounge pants should be only for wearing around the house when you are in the privacy of your own home. Just my humble opinion.

About 5 years ago, I noticed that people wearing flannel pajama bottoms or lounge pants out in public. I was going to Kent State back then, and I first noticed a girl in my class wearing them to school. I thought it was odd, and thought maybe she had forgot to do her laundry and ran out clean pants to wear, but then found out that others were doing the same thing around town. I haven't seen anything like that lately, so it must have been a fad around here. As for me, I might wear such pants out in my yard while taking the dogs out, or getting the mail, but not out away from home.

I have seen them out in public too but think they are exclusively for home...like sweats. Though I did buy a sweat suit recently that looks better then alot of what I see others wear in public. I have debated on wether to wear them to the store! But lounge pants to me are pajamas.....and belong at home to lounge in!

I have a great pair of leotard PJ pants that make me feel like Xena the Warrior Queen lol However,I've always asked myself the same question and I would not wear them in public places like stores, libraries etc. In the house-yeah,also if I have to go somewhere really quick and won't get out of the car like a drive-thru,I doubt they care about my looks lol

I see a lot of people here, men and women, wearing these flannel lounge pants. I think they look like they were just too lazy to get dressed before they got out and about. I'm like you, usually I don't criticize what other people wear, but this just really looks tacky to me.
