Which can you stand? 40 degrees or -40 degrees?

Perhaps it's difficult for you to make a choice as both of them are difficult to stand. One is so hot and the other is quite cold temperature. But I still prefer to live in the place with 40 degrees temperature. I don't mind the hot weather so much. I can't imagine I can do anything when it's -40 degrees.

Hi youless! Oh my! I guess, I can stand the 40 degrees because I am used to hot weather because we always get a 32-36 degrees in the summer here in my place last year. So I think I can survive an additional of 4-8 degrees of hot temperature. I will just take baths frequently and have long showers.haha... But I am not sure if I can take the -40 degrees, too cold for me and I am not used to that. I guess, I can stand the heat but not a very cold temperature.
Take care and have a nice day!

Hi there youless. I think your question is not good as the two of them can't be compared. You chose as a point of compare the 0 degree temperature, when you should have chosen the normal temperature for a human (which is between 20 - 24 degrees) - thus your questions would have been to choose from -20 degrees Celsius and + 60 degrees Celsius.
To answer your direct question though i easily choose the 40 degrees as i actually get that temperature in my town in the summer and it's ok, i will trade it any day even instead of -10 degrees.

I love hot weather my friend You Less so I would say I would greatly prefer 40 degrees. I went to Israel and Jordan when the weather in Eilat and Petra was about that sort of temperature. I don't like cold temperatures and struggle at anything lower than zero degrees. Minus 10 degrees would very uncomfortable for me. I really don't know how I would survive in minus 40 degrees.

It is degrees centigrade that youless is talking about because we use this system in China rather than F.

ni hao! dui bu qi i don't know your in China. we also use deg C in the philippines.. of course 40degC is alot better than -40degC..in fact, 40degC is not uncommon here. during summertime, in many parts of our country, specially in busy roads with less tree shadings, you can get 40degC by noontime . zai jian!

40 degrees is really really hot!
I get constant headaches from the heat!
And you will be so hot and bothered, the only thing you want to do is sleep!
Even drinking lots of water will not help much. It will only make you sweat a lot. And that sticky, grimy feeling is not something very pleasant.
But if you are comparing it to -40 degress, I guess it ain't so bad. Cos at -40 degrees, you really cannot do much. It is so frigging cold, you cannot even have a decent cup of water without first melting it in a pot!
So given the choice, 40 degrees don't seem so bad after all.

Hello youless. It seems that I am put in a dilemma as to which to choose. In fact, I don't like either of them as they are both extremes. But anyway, I will make a choice between the two. Guess which one I will choose? Yeah, you have guessed it correctly. I prefer the minus forty degrees centigrade. My reason for this is: if it is so cold, I am sure that we will be provided with heating system like most of the people are provided in the cold regions. I hate the heat of forty degrees centigrade, especially when it is so hot and humid in summer though there is an air conditioner in the house or office. . .

We don't have the heating system here. But some air-conditioners can work like heaters. But it's still different as you can not make a whole house warm. We don't really get used to the heating system and our cheeks will turn red because of the heat

Right now it is very cold here in Anji with the temperature minus 5 degree to 3 degrees centigrade today and I am using the heater to offer me warmth. I just came back from the office. While I stay in the office, I use either the air-conditioner or my heater that blows warm air. In fact, I love the latter one for the warm air blown to make me warm. Good night, friend.

I can handle 40 degrees way more than -40 degrees for sure. For heat I can not go over 80 without being very very uncomfortable. For coolness I can go to about 10 and them I am uncomfortably cold. I think if I would rather be in a place that is cold or hot, I would pick... I hate to say this right now as we are in a deep freeze, but I would rather the cold then too hot. But then I am Canadian. LOL

It was 42°C here yesterday, and my brother just got back from Cnada, where it hit
-40°C. He doesn't like the heat as much as when he was young, but it was an easy choice for him...the heat is better!

I can bear much heat of summers of little around 50 degree celsius but I am very uncomfortable with cold weather not even -5 degree is bearable for me. If I have to choose a place to live hot one and cold region, I will definitely choose hot place because I can bear it by excess sweating.

I would prefer living in 40 degrees hot than in freezing conditions. Malta is a hot country so I can stand the heat even if not to 40 degrees. But it August it usually reaches mid 40's sometimes even 38-40. I would stand inside and told cold showers but I don't know to deal with -40 degrees.

Almost every day we are experiencing the Plus 40 degree temperature that you have mentioned.. So no Problems for me.. But then when it comes to anything less than 15 degrees.. most of us will shiver..and hence there is no chance of thinking about -40 degrees..
And i have watched in the TV that China, is in the grip of snow.. and temp's falling drastically.... I think this has prompted you to start this topic..
Is the province that your are living affected by snowfall?
Good day to you.

40 degrees is not even close to hot but I sure would rather have that than 40 below!!
I am cold unless it's 76 or higher. I live in my mom's basement, which is large enough that I have 3 bedrooms, a living room area, a storage area, then the area with my kitchen table, microwave etc, plus there is the utility room. She only keeps the furnace on 68 degrees and there is only one vent down here. So, I sit at my desk with a space heater running behind me.

I would choose 40 degrees because i'm more use to warm weather than the cold. Also it's easier to cool down than get warmed up I have experienced 40 degree weather and it's horrible. I felt like everything's gonna burn up haha.
