Our world has become totally dependent on our ability to communicate instantly. According to this news report, this may be changing this year possibly replacing the economic crisis. How will we all survive if we lost our ability to communicate??? Would governments lose their ability to control??? Can you imagine a day without TV, radio & myLot??? OMG, we might have to go back to talking to people face to face & depending on each other!!! What do you think???

Hey! Maybe everyone we owe money to would lose their records!
This is somewhat scary, but the article stated that it is not very probable that this catastrophic event will happen, at least not as badly as it could possibly be.
It DOES make me think about moving to another country, though! Nah, just kidding. I recently watched a program on NOVA, I believe. It was about possible ends to our world. There are any number of ways life as we know it could end. If we worried about them all, we'd be spending our remaining time not enjoying anything!
I've often said that the more complicated something is, the more things can go wrong. Look at the world we've made for ourselves and become so dependent on! Give me simple any day!
Okay, okay, I'd NEED my internet so I can get to myLot! I could do without TV, cable, telephone, all kinds of things but I can't do without myLot! But, I suppose if I HAD to, I could handle the face to face communicating that we did back when I was young! I mean, before I became a teenager and had the telephone stuck to my ear at least 8 hours a day!
But, for food and stuff, I grow my own fruit, nuts and veggies and have a neighbor with a cattle and chicken farm so I'll be good to go!
I really wouldn't like it if we lost ALL technology, but it sure would be nice to have a mortgage-free house!

Yeah Martha, lets move to Canada!!! Biggest problem there is being trapped in a house buried in snow, a man who forgets to make car payments & a dog that pees on the carpet...beats the hell out of what we'll have at home here!!! Oops, I forgot all the medicinal herbs that'll make us NOT care about all those minor irritations!!!

Hi LadyMarissa,
I would certainley miss mylot but to be honest with you we did have all this many years ago and I think I can cope with writting letters again and talking to each other face to face, I would get all my friends on mylot to give me their addressses so I can write to them but I don't the younger generation can cope.

Honestly, I enjoyed my life much more BEFORE all the modern electronics. I had more close friends & interacted more with activities outside my home!!! Thinking back, we've always had some form of communication in my lifetime. Letter writing will be a good art form to go back to. How are these letters to go anywhere with no gas & no vehicles going anywhere??? We'd be going back to days of the Pony Express. A letter from Georgia to California would take probably a week or better. Neither ships or airplanes would be going across the ocean to get any mail to the UK nor other parts of Europe. The younger generation will have no clue how to think for themselves!!!

Frankly I think it would be a good thing. We would actually have to get off our lazy butts to talk to people! What a concept! The sense of community would grow, letter writing would come back in vogue, the art of inter personal skills would skyrocket, people would be come more self-reliant (oh be still my heart!), we would get more exercise, do more reading, become more involved in things in an active way and passivity would become a dirty word!
Sounds like heaven to me...............

Wow, 2012 seems to be shaping up to be a terrifying year...that's the year that the earth is supposed to have a polar switch, completely change polarities and tear apart in places. This is according to the Mayan calendar and some web sites.
I think it would be nice to be rid of electronics, on the human side. It would be disastrous for the sick and elderly, our national defenses and a lot of other people and institutions but we would survive and emerge better than ever. People are resilient and when push comes to shove, we will band together and help each other--probably to eliminate the "warlords" that will arise and hold bottled water captive or something!

Actually, I've enjoyed some of the benefits of electronics, but I do believe that we have forgotten how to be a nation due to the effects of electronics. The sick & elderly will be the first to go. Right behind them will be those who dare to get sick or newborn babies that didn't get appropriate care. My biggest fear is of the "warlords" that you mentioned!!!

Although I am not much of a TV watcher, I would miss the fact that it no longer existed. I think that I would have very severe withdrawal symptoms from losing myLot. Or at least the people that I regard as friends here. That said, perhaps we would be better off talking more. I am currently doing as course and one of the highlights is meeting up with like minded folk and having some intelligent conversation.

With NO petrol, meeting up will become increasingly difficult. With NO electricity, reading just might become a thing of the past. Well P1key, you could entertain people in your area with your fabulous stories!!!

i think people are so dependent on tv internet and computers that we probably would be lost withpout them. who knows if we could actually adapt to not having them at some point.

I believe we will eventually adapt. Until that time, it will be extremely stressful!!! Oh yeah, one I forgot....NO video games!!! Growing up in a generation with NO TV, I think it could very possibly be good for our country!!! We have lost the art of caring for our neighbor. Once we have to depend on them, we just might go back to caring what happens to them!!! Getting the reigns back out of the corporations' hands, could be a definite plus!!!

I think we should start trading addresses so we could use the old pencil and paper to write long letters because we will have time without TV and other electronic. We will revert back to more reading and hand crafts and less video games. OMG we will have to sit on the front porch and talk and get to know our neighbors.

Lost the ability to communicate??? That would be horrible. You list no TV, radio and mylot and I think I could handle those for a little bit if I had to but I would need my phone to keep in contact with family members who live out of town who I would not be able to talk to face to face.

You can tell how I spend most of my time!!! I didn't even think about the phone. I live close to most of my family & friends in real. I was worried about losing touch with my online friends!!!

I don't know what to make of the article, I just can't wrap my mind around it. I would be so lost because a big portion of my income is tied to the internet; I would be devasted, just devasted. The personal communication thing would not be that crucial but the financial lost would be horrible.

I think the WHOLE thing would be horrible. Financially for the internet workers. With NO electricity, the food in the grocery stores would go bad. Gas pumps wouldn't work so trucks couldn't get around to make deliveries of any products & the general population wouldn't be able to get to their families homes. The food stored in our refrigerator or freezer would go bad soon. Processing plants couldn't make new items to replace what we've lost. Banks would have to close. With no computers, banks wouldn't be able to locate how much money you even have. So, the rich would have no more money than the poor. Of course, I assume nobody could collect money owed as the information will also be stored in their computers. Major companies will collapse so everybody will be out of work. No one will have any money to spend. Life, as we know it, would cease to exist. We will have to go back to depending on each other to survive. We will need to plant gardens just in order to eat. Horses & bicycles will become our main mode of transportation. Eleven years is a long time to go backwards!!!

Yes, we are a resilient lot. With no communication, how will we know who is in charge & if they have our best interest at heart???

Life would go on, but it would be different. We would adjust and move on. Life always finds a way (a good quote from Jurassic Park, lol).

I could do without TV and radio but not internet or phone. My oldest daugter would absolutely die without TV though.

I read that news story the other day. At least one talking about the same thing since I can't remember if it was that article specifically.
But it's true, if that really did happen, life would change drastically. There would be a lot of extremely rocky things from the sounds of it if something like this actually happened to the worst extent.
I'm sure we'd survive. The human race has survived for centuries, well before the stuff we take for granted today existed or was even a possibility.

I think most of us could survive but there a lot of people out there that know a lot about survival. It would be like camping for a really long time. And I don't mean like most people consider camping. I mean catching your own food and all. There are some people that would not know what to do. I would not like losing my cell phone or the internet being as though I am 1,000 miles away from home and will be for a few months and need the phone to communicate for my Mom to pay my bills for me and stuff like but I would survive without the power and all. I do feel as if it would put a hurting on the wildlife because that would be the way we would have to eat. There would be a shortage on deer, fish, birds. And there would be a lot of laws broken. Because if we have to hunt for our food people will shoot what they see whether it is in season or not. It will not be quite as bad during the winter because food will not spoil as quick. But it will be a little more difficult in the summer. I assure you one thing though. Things that we take for granted like phones, the internet, power, water, a clean place to live and so on. If we ever lose it all and get it back people will be very grateful for all of these. These are things that most people take for granted but you don't know what you've got till it's gone.

I don't see a problem. I would survive. There is no question that changes are coming. The question is how ready are you for the changes? If I need food, I can hunt and grow my own food. I can build my own shelter and sew my own clothes. What about you?
