It annoys me all the time the phone rings with these unknown callers. Some are insurance company, some are soliciting donations,
some are selling something. I don't want to off our phone also because there might be important calls that would come and I will miss it. But how can I get rid of these callers who are a disturbance? Did you experience this? what did you do with it? Is there any way to stop them calling our phone numbers?
Just want to hear your advice.

Get on the national do not call list. They are for landlines and cells. Register on line or there is an 1 800 number to call. It's 1-888-382-1222. If you have a cell, call your provider to put a spam blocker if you do a lot of texting.

I used to get this all the time. Most phone companies offer an option that will let you block unwanted numbers for a small price. I personally think that it is worth the price, I am too busy with my life to have to waste my time telling people I'm no interested. I have tried other ways like asking them not to call but that doesn't always work which is why I contacted my phone company. I hope that helps.

Put your number on the National Do Not Call Registry. Its free and you can add up to 4 lines last time I checked. Some calls might slip through, just answer them and tell them that your phone number has been listed on the DNC registry and they will get the message.

Well this is still better than to receive calls late at night and when you answer nobody speaks or someone you don´t know start to speak nonsense things. When someone callsabout donations and so on I say that the owner of the house isn´t there and thats the end of the call.

I'm not sure if you can actually stop them calling, but if someone calls and is trying to sell me something, or if I get a call from a company I have never heard of I usually say 'sorry I'm very busy' and hang up right away. I definitely advise you not to turn your phone off as you're right, you might miss important calls

I think the best thing to do is just not answer the phone when those calls come up. If someone isn't identifying themselves, its usually not someone I want to talk to :) . If its important, and they can show who they are, then they can have my attention.

Hi there Bebs!
I think the best thing to do is to get an answering machine so that you can filter your calls. You can take only those calls that you want to take.

Get a answer machine and set the option to "answer after X number of rings". I have mine set to 3 rings, and I look at the hand set... if I don't recognize the number, I let the answer machine pick it up and I screen the calls and pick up what I want to pick up.
If you don't have an answer machine, just answer it and when they ask their first question, based on what it is... just say something like "hold on, I'll get him" and then just lay the phone down and go back to what you were doing. 5 minutes later...go hang up the phone as they will have hung up already! WOrks every time!

I agree it bothers me too. what I do is just ignor them. I have no land line, only cellphone and I would know if the caller is not a friend or what? I will not answer the call. But sometimes we are tempter to answer thinking that it might be important and maybe a friend whome the number we do not know? But the best thing is ignore it.

Hey bebs! I agree with you! I get so many unknown calls all
day long every day! If I don't recognize the phone number I
don't answer it! I am not interested in being annoyed by
solicitors and I don't like the fact they that don't take no
for an answer either! I am very thankful for Caller ID! I
watch very carefully before I pick the phone up these days!
I was even put on a "Don't Call List" but alot of good that
does! It is supposed help these people by stopping them from
calling, but it doesn't! So the only thing I can suggest is
to not answer the calls! Hopefully you do have Caller ID,
don't you?

yes, I have a caller ID but.. but there are times that the number that appears has no name but the area code is same as here in my place.. so then I will pick up the phone thinking that it comes from a friend in our area, only to find out it was from a foundation, or other establishment who are collecting donations or selling something?
Well, I just tell them am sorry I have no work and I can't donate. LOL.

i am a frank person i tell them what i feel right away i don't wanna be rude but i tell them getting numbers randomly is not pleasant because its unethical if they are friends of my friends fine.. but i am so busy i rarely have to to answer calls or txt messages and that i tell them which means i do not waste my time on people i don't know.

I do receive a lot of those calls from time to time. I will just spend some time to talk to them, politely, and also rejecting them politely with some nonsense excuses. I do feel for them though since they are merely doing their job and those numbers are coming from other people.

In India we have a strict rule for the marketing companies for calling us..if a user decides and opts for the do not disturb service then their number is deleted from the list of callers to be called immediately and its refreshed once in a week and its very successfull since anyone who calls after the do not disturb would be charged approximately $250 U.S.Dollars and in the worse case the com[pany is banned from calling anyone for three months and my dad also opted for this service and from the day of opting there has not been any calls to him whereas i have not opted it and get many calls like you...

Its actually free in my country...being a democratic country we have the right to say whether we can be called..so that it..you just have to go to the internet or the telecom office and subscribe for the DND-Do Not Disturb service which is absolutely free...

I just answer then and tell them that I'm not busy and I have all the credit cards and the right insurance and whatever they're selling. If they're selling kidneys, then I'd say "I have extra" hahaha.. Truly, that's the way to go for me. They don't bother me no longer because they know that I have enough and don't need their service.
I would also get their number so that if I do need one or know of someone I'd just give them a call. I'm pleasant, because if you're not pleasant, I think they're going to tease you even more on calling.
100% chance with whoever tried calling me, they'd stop.
I'm in sales too and I know how they feel. You just need to tell them that you don't need it, that's it.
Happy Mylotting!

Oh, well then, you know what I have a friend who has device (or service in her phone company) where they block unlisted numbers or number unknown to her and all get deleted and blocked. You should try to see if your phone company has that service.

Hello friend, though here in the Philippines we don't much calls for telemarketing is not being practiced here though we receive prank calls from time to time. at times this happen at the wee hours of the morning where you are thinking a relative or someone you know calls in and it could be an emergency and before you know it this are just prank callers who have nothing to do with their lives and would just like to piss you off then since we got mobile phones at night i just lessen the ringer volume and change the volume again during the day time. In your case it is possible to have your phone number in a DNC or the Do Not Call list. I used to work in a call center before and customers who doesn't like to receive calls from a telemarketer or sales person can't call this numbers and they will be penalized if they do so. I think your number will be on the DNC for 5 years and during this time you won't get unnecessary call. Hope this helps my friend.

If you live in the United States, there's a national "Do Not Call" list where telemarketers CAN NOT call you if your phone number is on that list. You're entitled to a payout (it's either $1000 or $2000 per call) from any company that calls you in spite of being on that list. You can register your number at www.donotcall.gov
Just note that this does not work for any debt collectors who may be hounding you. Because you owe them money, they're entitled to contact you. The only way to keep THEM from calling is to send them a letter stating not to call, but to contact you by mail only.
I hope this helps!

The "Do Not Call" list is free. There are still some companies that can call you if you're on the list, but very few and they have to be specific types of agencies: charities, telephone surveyors, and people you already do business with. As far as the money goes, it looks like they may have changed the rules on that, but you should check it out on their website. The worst that can happen if you register your number (you can put cell-phone numbers on it too) is that you won't receive any more calls from people trying to sell you stuff. There's nothing to lose by putting your number on the list; my number is there and I don't get any calls!
