I have a terrible habit of using the computer at night without a light on in the room. I have been told it is bad for my eyes, and lets face it my eye sight is bad enough. Do you use the comuter in a dark room or do you always have a light on?

I haven't tried to use the computer in the dark since my youngest was born. Actually at that time I used the computer in the dark a lot. Because I was always being woken up in the middle of the night before he was born. I'd have labor pains, and get excited thinking it was finally time, so I'd come down and turn on the puter, find a friend to talk to and wait to see if the pains got stronger, but they didn't. I also had a bad gall bladder so would sometimes have gall bladder attacks in the middle of the night, and I'd get on the computer waiting for that to pass. Since then though, I've been too tired to wake up in the middle of the night longer than to make a bottle and use the bathroom.

Were your gall bladder troubles when you were pregnant? That is when mine started acting up. It was terrible.

Yeah, it first started when I was pregnant for my toddler, but I didn't have the gall bladder removed until about 6 months after the youngest was born. So I dealt with it for over 2 years.

Maybe you should change the habit. Yes that is bad for eyes. I try before my room is dark and i play game using my computer. I feel my eyes like crying then i turn on back the light. Now i always let the light on.

My eyes adjust to the dark really quickly, so to me the light almost hurts them.

I guess the light from the monitor is enough for me most of the time because I just don't think to turn it on.

That what I heard too, they said it is not good for your eyes. But I love to do that too, no light on. if you like that then let it be, but you have to take a break every 30 minutes. it helps relax your eyes.

My kids are always distracting me, so I am never in front of the computer for too long at a time anyway.

I normally have my light on. I will occasionally have them off if I'm trying to get the kids to sleep or if I have company and they are trying to sleep, but other than that I always keep my light on.

I watch televison with the light off almost all the time too. To me the light bothers me more than it helps me.

A little of both really. Sometimes I forget to turn on the light sometimes I make sure that I do. I don't think that it really makes too big of a difference I can see most of the time just by the light of my screen!

I have just heard that it is bad for the eyes, so I wondered how many of us really do it.

Yes, I do it in the dark. I try to remember to turn on a light but most of the time I do not. This is why I have some typo's sometimes, lol. We must turn on a small light if nothing else. Just looking at this monitor is going to mess up our eyes. My don't need to be worse, lol.

I always have the light on....it's a candlestick light though behind my computer so it's easy on the eyes. My friend suggested that I get a reading or office light but I find them too bright. I use one of those in my studio and my granddaughter calls it the hot light!

My eyes are suffering big time because of computer use. When I was working, I was on the computer for the whole day, then I would come home and get on the compter. I have a light in the room, but it is really dim. I wear my glasses while I am using the computer, but I am sure there is still visual damage to the eyes.

I do both. Sometimes I just sit down and start using it in the dark and then when my wife walks by she turns on the light. She tells me it is bad for my eyes to use the computer in the dark. The funny thing is I am the only one in my family, counting my parents and siblings, that actually has good eye sight. Everyone else has glasses or contacts but I never had. The last time I had my eyes checked I was still at 20/20 despite my in the dark computer usage.

I have a hard time sleeping at night and im always on the computer. I usually keep a lamp on next to the computer when im on it. I turn the rest of the lights off but I need just a little light. The light helps to keep me awake a little better.

If I do turn on a light at all it is a lamp on the desk too.

I do work on the computer in the dark. I probably is bad for my eyes, but sometimes having a light on is too distractive to my roommate and family. I should probably start using a light even if it is a small light to help ease the strain on my eyes.

Yes, using computers in a dark room is extremely bad for the eyes. Due to the darkness in the room, our pupil expands so as to able to see well in light, but due to changing intensities of the computer monitor, it becomes very hard for the pupil to adjust properly so fast, hence damaging it. I always use my computer in a lit room and even you should follow this practice if you want your eyes to be fine for long. You should have at least ample light between you and the computer screen, so as to reduce the effect of intense rays from the computer monitor.

I remember about 15 to 16 years ago, while I was working in a private company and internet was not yet available (I guess) and I was assigned in the branch far away from the capital. I have to sleep in the office then. And there was the computer already with just the solitaire to spend time. I will close the lights in the night while I was playing and waiting for my eyes to get tired. But now, I only have computer in the office so there is no reason to do it in the dark, hehehe.

"lights off"! that's how i want when i used the computer especially at night when i am just doing some surfing stuffs and watching videos but, it's a different story when i need to type of documents from a price of paper. "lights on" distracts the sleep of my cousins who are sharing room with me

Every once in a while I will sit at the computer without the light on. I don't know if it causes any actual damage to the eyes, but I know that after a while I will get a headache, so I don't do it often or for that long. Mostly it's to just hop on and check something. The worst thing about trying to use the computer in the dark, is my typing skills, which are lousy to begin with, get even worse(I didn't think that was possible). So I spend half the time I'm on looking for the right key, backspacing and retyping. A task that should only take 2 minutes takes atleast 5 and then I get frustrated and yell at myself for just not turning on the light!

I always have the light on when I use the computer. There have been a few times when I've attempted to use it in the dark, but I always end up being aggravated that I can't see the keyboard (even though I don't look at it, to type!)
