http://www.wyff4.com/news/18605622/detail.html#- A family in SC auctioned off EVERYTHING they owned to pay off medical bills for both their children. The couple winning the bid, refused to take the items they purchased yet insisted on giving the money to the family to help them get everything straightened back out. In this particular case it was $20,000.00 (yes twenty thousand). Do you think that you would be as generous as this couple???

If I had the money I would do that. I think it's awful that people are destroyed by astronomical medical bills. I don't know what can be done about it, but it's not right.

Wow!! This is an awesome story and in the long run this family will truly be Blessed for their efforts as well. I know I could never personally afford to do something like this, but if I could, I would. When it comes to Health and being able to save and help the life of someone, I feel it is very necessary and I feel that this was truly out of the kindness of their hearts that someone truly chose to do this as well. I just hope it all continues to work out for the best of them as well.

If I had the money I may be that generous I may even try to help the family out by hiring the wife around the house if I could.

The wife lives in South Carolina. The family donating the money lives in Texas....so would be a long commute.

I would be more than willing to donate but not $20,000. Just can't be that generous right now since we have kids who could really use the money. Don't mean to sound selfish here but it would be difficult to make the decision about where the money should go and would feel the need to help our kids first.

My friend Pedro once gave a cake to someone. It may not seem like much but it was all he had. I think that it was a fantastic gift. The size of the gift isn't so important to me as much as the size of the sacrifice.

You are correct!!! These people obviously had the money to give or they wouldn't have done it. My guess is Pedro's cake was a much BIGGER sacrifice than their $20,000.

If I had the money I would do it in a heartbeat. I just don't understand the US medical system. I guess that for most it works just fine, but there is a sizeable group that just don't get adequately covered. Not everything about our free at the point of delivery health service is good, but every citizen, rich or poor, is entitled to use it and get treatment without having to worry about selling their homes to pay for it.

If you're poor here you're chit outta luck. I used to have a friend whose mother was from England. He always said that they got free medical service, but not good medical attention. If you had cancer, you were treated once & sent home to die. Not having any experience with the healthcare system there, I could only listen & hope he was wrong. Can you clarify???

That really is an incredible thing to do. I wish I had money enought to be able to write a check like that and not think about it. On another note to this article, it's a really sad statement that in this modern day that it's not so much more of a shock to hear that someone is auctioning off everything they own to try and pay their medical bills but to be shocked that someone is helping them. This just makes me very sad.
