Why do men do things the hard way when women want to do them the easy way?

This has always preplexed me and today is just the kicker!
Earlier in the week, we had our new washer and dryer delivered. They weren't able to hook up the dryer because we did not have the right kind of vent. Apparently with the new dryers you can't use that accordian-style venting. So last night we went out and bought the new stuff. We get up to put it in today and realize it's not going to fit where the vent goes to the outside. So, we're brainstorming and decide the best thing to do is to put a new vent hole in the cement block wall and just move the vent.
I thought my husband was going to go to his work and get the tool he needs to do this, but then I hear all this drilling going on down there. So I run down and ask if he's already measuredit - which I know he hasn't. And he of course says "No" and looks at me like I'm an idiot. Well, the piping we have is in 2 foot sections and we figured that putting the new vent at 4 feet would work out great. So, in order for this to work, you need to really put the pipes together - because it has an angled peice that adds about 6 inches, so we're really talking 4 1/2 feet up the wall from where the dryer hooks up to the venting. So he's decided that if it's not the right lenght, he'll cut what we have to the right size - I so see stitches in this whole scenario.
Then I'm thinking that I hope it's in the right place across on the wall because that's really going to suck if it' a few inches to the left or right of where we need it.
Why is it that he can't take a few minutes to measure and get it right instead of just throwing it together then finding out that he wasted hours doing the wrong thing - which isn't fixable!

You see my hubby would measure twice so he will only have to cut twice. the job would take him a day and a half to do the job but he would do it correctly.

I think we coulda been done in half the time and only a second trip to Home Depot if he'd taken the time to set it up correctly first. But, it's done, laundry is clean, life is good...

I don't know reiny, it's just another thing to chalf up to mens sense of pride, they won't stop to ask for directions either and they will drive a mile out of the way to turn around instead of just going up to another exit and getting out at the light. lol, funny how mens mind work so different than ours.

Hey reiny! That is so typical of a man! I don't understand
their logic that's not ever logical! They do the strangest
things! So what if it isn't right the first time? It's only
a major disaster? And they just don't seem to get it! Why is
it that they rather do it first and see if it's right instead
of taking the measurements to make sure it is right! It really
is a "guy thing"! And then if it's wrong? Then what? Will they
just do it all over again without complaining and admit that
they made a mistake?

Boys will just stay boys...
you're just a girl, you know nothing about those things, leave me alone, don't bother me.Go in the kitchen, prepare me something to eat..
I know them all.
Men don't like when women know better and show them. They have to show that they are "the man" and what they're doing and how they're doing it, is the only way.And if it's not true, and he knows it, he will still insist to do it his way, just to show you he's right .
Better leave him alone.Tell him you don't care what and how he does it, as long as it works .And good.

There's no way I'd let him swap the doors around on those things. I made sure he stayed well clear of me while I did it. He was even trying to skip ahead a few steps while I was doing it to speed things up. If he'd done it his way we'd still be down there fixing his mess instead of doing the laundry by now.

Hi Reiny,
The title of your post seems to mean that all men thinks like your husband does.
Its unfair, forgive me but I don't really buy on the idea of women saying that they are as good as men. Yes I agree that women should be given equal rights with men but on cases only where physical factor is not included.
Just my opinion, don't try to equate men against women. They are both unique individuals that excel in their own world to support each other rather than to compete with each other. What do you think?

Its our DNA to make everything we do complicated. And also to do everthing half assed. I mean sure you might find like 2 out of 100 guys who think smart but between the men and women someone has to be the stupid one and we obviously know who chose what.

I'm sorry...I'm sitting here giggling about this. It reminds me of when my ex-b/f tried to put a doggy door in. Three holes later and not one of them fit the door, he finally got a friend to help. The first hole was so big a horse could have walked through it...the second one the dog would have had to fold his legs in half to squeeze through and the third the dog would have needed a ladder to climb up to and a parachute to drop to the ground outside. It cost more to patch the holes afterwards then it did to buy the doggy door kit in the first place. It took his friend all of 20 minutes to install the door properly. Some men shouldn't be allowed around tools LOL
