Fun or a chore - Maybe it's our choice.

Most of us tend to put off the things that we don't want to do but the best way is to dive right in and get it done. The fact is almost anything can be fun if we just change our attitude about it. I once knew a lady who just loved washing dishes and couldn't imagine a better job. We can learn to take pride in almost anything, for example making a really neat bed every morning. Look for joy in the most mundane activities and it can become a source of enjoyment. Just look for ways to make it exciting and you will always find them. Your thoughts?

I actually find it very relaxing and meditating to clean the house, especially if I am alone.Something that makes you feel good.I guess it could be the exercise or the extra thinking time. The one thing I do not care for is sweeping...It is impossible to keep the floor clean..Where are these dust bunnies coming from!!

Look for joy in the most mundane activities and it can become a source of enjoyment. That is so wise. I guess I do this a little bit. But I also put off doing things that I don't want to do. It is best to just dive right in and get it done, you are so right.

Hi Pose123! I do take pride in everything I do and most of the time, I am really happy doing all my house chores. Although I admit that sometimes I get a little bit lazy and try to put off a chore or two but most of the time I do get everything done each day. My secret? very simple! All my activities and all my chores, I offer it to God and hoping that in my simple chore or activity, I am making Him happy..making me do every small thing with my whole heart and whole mind.
take care and have a great day!

My father used to rpair everything around the house, and work very hard at his job.
He also could find the time to develop his own photos.
And he was always smiling and in good mood.Making jokes all the time.
He tought me to find the fun in everything you do, like a game. And in this way, you'll enjoy what you're doing, and the time will go by without even paying attention.
And also, try to have around you people with positive attitude, that's fun to work with.
I try to do like my father.Looing for small pleasures in each thing I do, and then instead of a "chore", it becomes fun.

Hi Pose123. I always have a tendency to procrastinate when I am assigned to do a manual job. I need to put a windbreaker around the aluminium stairs to prevent my dog from falling. (I am afraid that my small sheltie would pass through the bars) Anyway I took the opportunity to do it this morning. My brother came to pick me up and as he was there he gave me a helping hand. it was only a half an hour job but I really appreciated some help. Even if he is there to hold me the tools it is more than enough for me to get me started.

Hi ronaldinu,Thank you for commenting and you've made a good point, having someone to help is often a great motivation. Attitude is the big thing and it helps to talk about things that you enjoy and never about how much you hate what you are doing. Blessings.

Yeah, you are totally correct pal. I can really site something same that happened just now. I was actually sitting home right now and was getting bored of the television and just wanted to go out for a walk with friends, but all of them are real busy today and some are even unwell, so I didn't know what to do, though I have to work and earn money and get to my goals, but still I was feeling that its a big chore to sit down by the computer and get to work. I was having a real hard time in deciding. But then I just thought, that its the best thing that I can possibly do right now, so I got down to it and now am actually having fun, replying to discussions over here and starting a few of my own.
Thanks(for your interesting post, it actually made me reply all by itself)
Take Care
God Bless YOU

I never think of making as chore a fun thing, because I then become a bit careful and do not do a good job. So if I say, "how doing this is fun," then I start making mistakes, leave creases in irons, put the paint on sloppy, ETC. However if I think I have to do a good job, and become serious, then I begin to improve. Besides I think of joy as being a Christian more important. It is not that I hate the work, it is just that I like to do a good job at what I do.

Hmm...interesting..maybe what I say next is unrelated to this, but I would love to share it. Recently, I realized the reason for my stress. While doing one job, I would worry about the completion of the 100 other jobs I had to do. So, I decided to concentrate and give my all only to the chore I am doing right then. It worked! Not only am I more relaxed now, but also I am enjoying myself in spite of being overloaded with work sometimes.
Cheers and happy Mylotting

Hi positiveminded, Thank you for responding and I think you have point. By concentrating on one thing you no longer have the burden of others. Since you are relaxed it seems to be working for you. We must all stop saying that we hate doing something and find a way to like it. Blessings.

I really like this discussion that you have created. I wish that I could adopt the same attitude as you as it definitely makes a lot of sense. This is a difficult thing though. I do have the tendency to put things off. I have decided that I want to start taking serious action this year, I just want to get things done and start moving forward. Anyway, I'm more positive as a person and I think that this can only be a good thing. Andrew

I find that I actually enjoy cleaning up, especially if my two young daughters try to help me,LOL. I find that I am in a better mood when things are cleaned up and put in their place. I don't think that it is hard to tiddy up after ourselves and that is saying something because I have two young daughters and they can make a big mess in about 10 seconds. I used to get upset about it but now I just trun on some music and dance while I clean. I think your friend is right, it;s all in the attitude.

Hi,
U r RIGHT.
Anyone for that matter will be GOOD at certain things(They call it Passion),and not-so-good at others(They call it areas of development). There are 2 ways of looking at this :- (1)Improve upon Ur strength Area, so that it gives U pleasure.
(2)Improve upon Ur weak-zone, my removing Ur mindset and breaking into simpler steps.U will do better than past.
Applying the mixture, one's ultimate productivity will improve.Boredom will vanish.

Hi I find that the longer I put things of the harder it is to get started. I am really good at coming up with reasons that I am not doing whatever chore it is that bogs me down. I have one that is hanging over me now and has for some time "The dreded kitchen cupboards" I just can't face getting on the cold stone floor in our very thin galley like kitchen and sorting them out. I keep saying "I'l do that" and I will eventually. I think I will wait until spring then maybe the kitchen will not be so cold and a bit more inviting. Mad thing is when it is done I know I will feel great that I did it but I also know nothing will happen if I just put it of and hey its not life threatening if I don't get it done, no one can even see the mess behind the closed doors!! :)

That is so true. Anything we have to do in life not including housework can definately be looked at as Fun or a chore. Like when you have a Big project you need to get done, or some Articles and such to get in, or a days full of laundry and other housework as well. In reality it is how you tend to look at things that really matters. If you are willing to be open and explore more than good things will continue to happen from there.

I put off the most hated of jobs until last and put them off again and again, if possible.. But.. Occasionally I will put music on the CD player, some old Rock and Roll, and I could clean the White House single-handedly.. I don't always use this method, sometimes it is easier to just forget it and take a nap or watch TV..

Hi DonnalLawson, Thank you for commenting, I find the best way to handle these things is to think of a fun way to do it, or change our attitude towards it. For big jobs, why now get some friends to help, serve snacks and talk about anything except how much you hate the job. Blessings.

I do agree that if you take pride in what you do it will be more fun then a chore. I always to try to make things fun. Like doing dishes although I rather not do then I like the finished product. I like to see the shiny clean dishes nicely put away in the cabinets.

Hi moneymommy, I thank you for commenting and I agree, the finished product looks great, but just think how good it feels to get your hands in a nice sink filled with clean soapy water. Look at the dishes afterwards and be proud of you work. No matter what we are doing, attitude makes the difference. It looks like we are in for a big snowstorm today, so I have think about all the fun I can have out there shovelling. Blessings.
