Hello, I recieved this story and recipe in my email. I don't know if the story is true or not. I wanted to share the recipe with anyone that is interested in it. I just made the cookies and they are really good. I only made half the recipe. I also used my food processor to blend the oatmeal and also didn't use nuts or the extra candy bar. I did blend some of the chocolate chips in the food processor too after I did the oatmeal. The cookies came out great, they taste really good too. You can't eat just one. I hope you enjoy them.
My daughter and I had just finished a salad at a Neiman-Marcus
Cafe In Dallas, and we decided to have a small dessert. Because
both of us are such cookie lovers, we decided to try the ' Neiman-
Marcus cookie. ' It was So excellent that I asked if they would give
me the recipe, and the waitress said with a small frown, ' I'm afraid
not, but you can buy The Recipe. ' Well, I asked how much, and
she responded, ' Only two fifty - it ' s a Great deal! ' I agreed to that,
and told her to just add it to my Tab.
Thirty days later, I received my VISA statement, and the Neiman-
Marcus Charge was $285.00! I looked again, and I remembered I
had only spent $9.95 for two salads and about $20.00 for a scarf.
As I glanced at the bottom of the statement, it said,
' Cookie Recipe-$250. 00. ' That was Outrageous! I called Neiman ' s
Accounting Department and told them the waitress said it was
' two-fifty ' , which clearly does not mean ' two hundred and fifty
dollars ' by any reasonable interpretation of the phrase.
Neiman-Marcus refused to budge. They would not refund my money
because, according to them, ' What the waitress told you is not our
problem. You have already seen the Recipe. We absolutely will not
refund your money at this point. '.........................
I was basically told, ' Do what you want. Don't bother thinking of how you
can get even, and don't bother trying to get any of your money Back. '
I just said, Okay, you folks got my $250, and now I'm going to have
$250 worth of fun. I told her that I was going to see to it that every
Cookie Lover in the United States with an e-mail account has a $250
cookie recipe From Neiman-Marcus. ..for free..........
So here it is!
NEIMAN-MARCUS COOKIES (Recipe may be halved)
2 cups butter
24 oz. Chocolate chips
4 cups flour
2 cups brown sugar
2 tsp. Soda
1 tsp. Salt
2 cups sugar
1 8 oz. Hershey Bar (grated)
5 cups blended oatmeal
4 eggs
2 tsp. Baking powder
2 tsp. Vanilla
3 cups chopped nuts (your choice)
Measure oatmeal, and blend in a blender to a fine powder. Cream
the butter and both sugars. Add eggs and vanilla, mix together with
flour, oatmeal, salt, baking powder, and soda . Add chocolate chips,
hershey bar, and nuts. Roll into balls, and place two inches apart
on a cookie Sheet. Bake for 10 minutes at 375 degrees. Ungreased cookie sheet.
Makes 112 cookies.
PLEASE READ THE RECIPE AND SEND IT TO EVERY
PERSON YOU KNOW WHO HAS AN E-MAIL ADDRESS!
THIS IS REALLY TERRIFIC!!
Even if the people on your e-mail list don't eat sweets send it to
them and ask them to pass it on. Let's make sure we get this
ladies $250.00 worth. Enjoy the cookies, they really are good

Polly, I think this story is as old as the internet or even older..I got it in my email at least 20 years ago.
It is a great recipe but it is an urban legend.... http://www.snopes.com/business/consumer/cookie.asp
If you want to mail me a cookie...

Ha the story is pretty good...I'm glad she's taking revenge on them for it too.
I'd maybe sell the recipe myself for like...$2.50 or something. Heh.
But no it's good that she's giving it out for free. I'll have to try it sometime, sounds like it's getting good reviews.

Personally I could see how the $250 could be taken as a mistake for $2.50 but at the same time this is rediculous, and how could they not expect someone to go around and share the recipe from time to time as well. I know from experience sometimes you are right when someone tells you one thing, but a lot of times no one will listen, and you are stuck, so Best to ask questions before so that you do not end up getting stuck later.

OMG! That is horrible! One, that the waitress misled you, and two that they wouldn't even at least give you a 75% refund in exchange for their recipe back! That would have been sufficient I think! But I don't mind sticking it to those who commit an injustice towards the smaller guy! I love baking cookies for my kids and I am sure they would love this recipe all nice and baked up for them!
I will be sure to pass the recipe along! :)
A shame people have to be so mean nowadays!

This is one of my favorite e-mail chain letters because the story is so funny and believable and the cookies are indeed awesome. The story is indeed a hoax though, it has become an urband legend. It's still funny though and it circulates a great cookie recipe and well who doesn't need a great cookie recipe.

wow.. this is great ...i love cookies. The aroma of the cookie makes my taste buds starve for more and more. There is a mall in our city where they serve free cookies if we just stand in front of their shop or show a keen interest in them... it is awesome. The taste is great and the aroma is spread all over the place.
