What advantages will Windows 7 bring that would convince you to buy it?

I have used every version of Microsoft Windows from 3.0 through Vista, and I haven't actually found a compelling reason to upgrade since Windows98, which I still use on some of my older computers. My primary computer is a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop, which came with XP when I bought it. I found no reason to upgrade to Vista and I won't be upgrading to Windows 7 unless there is some really compelling reason. I use my computer with XP primarily for the internet, and I find it works very well. Vista is actually a step backward for me, since I occasionally use the "run" and "command" line, which is difficult to find in Vista. Oh yeah, I keep hearing about enhanced "security" features, but with the existing firewall and the free version of AVG antivirus software I use, I haven't had a virus/trojan problem in several years. What plans do you have to use Windows 7?

Windows 7 is being talked about a lot these days. I read about it and found out some features that I think will urge me to try this version of Windows. These are:
* The Alert pop ups which produced a havoc and head ache for the users have been reduced.
* The looks (user interface) have been modified, specially with icons that tell more about the application they lead to.
* A new feature called "Jumplist" is being introduced from where we can quickly browse and move to most recently accessed files and programs.
* Windows 7 claims to use memory very efficiently, and hence resulting in better machine speed and performance.
* It boasts of being more secure with more security implications added to the OS and the web browser embedded with it.
We will have to wait till 2010 when this version of Windows is released for test. Then only the true valuation would be done.

i have read various articles on windows 7 everyone has good hopes on windows 7. Acctually more time has not passed after releasing vista so i don't understand why microsoft is in a hurry to release another new operating system insted it can solve the bugs in vista for example vista needs a high configuration machine to run smooth even though i feel xp is nice because even on a high configuration machine vista is slow.

Windows 7 is out because Vista sucks. Vista is one of the worst operating systems yet. It's as bad as ME. People hate it. I'm using XP and it is fine. On my next computer I might try 7 if it passes beta.

I have read various articales and seen many screenshots on this new Windows 7. I don't think anything could convince me to buy it. Vista, in my humble opinion, by itself was a mess-up for a long time. Furthermore, they have not even fixed all of the errors in it yet! Why make another one? My school just swapped over to Vista, and it has started an uproar.
Windows 7, like Vista would have to run on higher RAM and would just cause more trouble than it's worth. Let Vista take it's course for another year or so, then Windows 7 may be legible to try out.

Good question.
At the moment things that would convince me to buy Windows 7 would only be if things that bother me in Windows Vista would be eliminated or changed. Small bugs and the computer slowing down because of the operating system (which used to happen to me a lot before I upgraded my laptop) are the things that bother me. I haven't had a virus or trojan issue for a long time either, but it would have to be as secure as possible if I was going to buy it - I won't even consider upgrading if I heard it had issues.
I don't really care about how feature-pack or classy it looks - I would buy it if it worked smoothly and with minimum fault, and provided at least some things that I felt were missing from Windows Vista. After all, an upgrade is an upgrade. =P

There is no reason in today's economy to upgrade to windows 7, but if you really wanted to all the advantages are really in the visuals. Vista is really not as bad as everyone was building it up to be and if you have used it on a decent machine at all then you know that it actually a great operating system. What Windows 7 is, is nothing more than a new service pack for vista. The only reason they have changed the name is because of the bad hype that vista has gotten. It adds new ways of organization and movement through your desktop and such. It also adds some little features which you can read all about on microsoft's website. But if you are fine with xp then stick with that because it is going to cost a pretty penny to upgrade for some things that are not necessarily needed by most people. If you wanted to try it out too you could always download the beta version to see what it is like.
