Addiction is so awful, I really need help! I have been smoking for more than 30 years and no I need to quit but the pull of this toxin has too much of a hold on me I don't know what to do. I have an arrhythmia that is constant and I will be out of my meds soon, I am afraid of being off the meds and smoking when I know I should not! I also have a burning sensation in my right lung area with wheezing and coughing so you are probably saying why don't you just stop? Well I know I need to but I really need help and don't know what to do... Any suggestions from ex smokers would be great.

I am not a smoker but I think if you love yourself and your family, I think you have, it will be enough to quit. But since I'm not a smoker, I know it's easy to say that than to actually do that if I am in your situation. I suggest you seek professional help immediately. For things like addiction, only those who specialized on treating people with such addiction will be able to help you. And maybe find some things which will really take your attention away from smoking like a new hobby, a better addiction such as reading. And last I will suggest, pray to God for help. There are things on our life that we need divine interventions already.

I know what you mean Stirtime! I'm an ex-smoker and I really find it hard at first to kick the habit. It's just so unfortunate that most of us tend to disregard the consequences of smoking despite the hazard. I acquired tuberculosis many years ago and it is only when I took things seriously. With encouragement from my loved ones I am now smoke-free. Its been 9 years and I know you can do it too. Its never too late to stop. Just Stop! think of your loved ones. do it for them!

You should talk to your doctor and tell them about your concerns and your desire to quit. I know they have support groups for people who are trying to quit now too. I don't know if you'd be a good candidate but a friend of mine's mother is using this new pill that is supposed to aid you in the endeavor to quit smoking. I know it is perscription only. Best of luck.

I also used to smoke close to a pack a day. The only way I could quit was by stopping completly and cold turquey. I strated walking and also stop drinking because it led to me smoking. You just have to be strong and after 4 months it will be no problem at all and you will feel 10 years longer and full of vitality.
