I use the the postal service a lot. I am a letter writer and card sender. I was going to say it's because I live in a foreign country but it wouldn't be true as I wrote letter all my life even when I lived at home. The is nothing that raises a smile more than opening a post box and finding a a letter from a friend their instead of a bill. I love to write and receive and am fortunate enough to have friends who share this passion

I don't know about how efficient India postal service is , over here in USA, i almost never want to use their services for oversea delivery anymore with the exception that the destination of my parcel or mail can not reach by private carriers or delivery services not provided by them. From my personal experience with USPS, it provide reasonable domestic delivery services but not oversea delivery services. Also internet help me cutting down on mail postage expenses drastically by reducing dependent on postal service, it is such a wonderful invention for many people.

Sorry to hear that. US is one the countries using online shopping as often as we use offline shopping. Sad to hear that you had a bad experience with them.
UK, on the other hand, has a large number of people using it i heard.
India post is good...it's cheap, okay fast and somewhat reliable...and reliability increases if you add more money. In fact, i hear that many Europeans are diverting their mail to India and having it sent through IndiaPost to other countries as its cheaper and moderate reliable. I heard IndiaPost is going to make this into a legal service, as its profit eitherway.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts - i agree it's still one of the best services around. For places that are remote and have no internet, and even telephone facilities, post plays a major role in communication.
Happy mylotting lampar.

Sounds bad. I too had that kind of experience - even though i had sent the letters to a local destination - it was perhaps my bad handwriting, but occasionally my cards don't reach the destination... which is kinda annoying - but the letters/parcels we send abroad, they def reach.

Cheap is not the only consideration i look into. For example, if you want to mail a letter to Russia, you will have to pay for the postage and it is comparatively cheaper than using private courier service, but then the mail will never reach your destination after several months, even if you are paying for a registered mail which mean guarantee delivery. Then you went back to postal service to find out, there is no record of your premium service, the staff and manager had no clue where is the mail, not even know whether it is sent out or not, so it very much tell you how competent postal service is over here and their system is not up to the task they promise to provide, another main reason i think is the lack of personal commitment and professional responsibility on the part of the employees they hired.

I don't use the postal service as much as I used to. I pay most of my bills online or in person if I want to send a letter I just use email. I do have a few things that I have to use the postal service for but not very many.

In places where internet facilities are not there, postal service is pretty helpful for communication.
Phone calls across states and countries is a huge expense, but sending mails is cheaper and also, mails can be read at any time convenient for the receiver. Its especially good if you're a busy person.
I can understand about online banking - it doesn't feel secure these days.
Thanks for the share. Happy mylotting.

My nieces and nephews still love getting packages in the mail for their birthdays, holidays, and just any day. It's a thrill for them and I love to send things in order to make their day! So, yes we still use the postal service to send packages and cards. For everything else we use the internet.

You're absolutely right! It's so nice to get something in the mail which isn't a bill, solicitation for money or junk mail.

The real gift of writing is best expressed in writing epistles of good nature.Posting a letter and waiting for reply to reach us by post still excites me.

Thanks for your time.
We use the "money transfer" of our postal services to send money across. The western union is also helpful, but a bit costlier.
There EMS (electronic mail service) is also more frequently used by my family.
Thanks for the share and happy mylotting

I use postal services rarely, as you said, only for Christmas festive seasonal greetings.
Your discussion reminds me of an legal issue. Way back when I worked, I saw on contractual documents, it is very often stipulated that "Documents received through fax are merely for purpose of expediting procedures. They shall not take effect until the original documents sent by post or express are received." I wonder if this business practice still prevails. If yes, the posal services are still of critical importance.

I agree. lol.
Even i was surprised when i was told UK had more profit in their postal service than my country - which is larger and more crowded. I guess they use online shopping a lot more than we do ... for us, its cheaper and better to get goods from our stores.
Thanks for dropping by. Happy mylotting.

I use postal services occasionally - mostly for sending BIG things like my bags. Postal services is needed when i want to go back hometown and i want to have the cheapest fare for delivery (and fastest) which eventually leads me to postal services!

Thanks for sharing.
Isn't it cheaper to take the bag with you on train, plane or bus? I had always thought it was, as i don't use the post for that.
In flights though, they don't let you take deodorants and stuff on board, so we have to send those by post.
Happy mylotting

not anymore, i used to send mails to my friend in canada but ever since i went to college, got busier, and discovered ecards, etc, i never used the postal services anymore. i became too lazy now to manually write letters and look for a postal office near my place.

I love receiving mail, so I guess I utilize it a lot to receive things. :)
I also use it to mail books through bookmooch.com although it's getting so expensive I don't know how I'll be able to keep up once I move into my new place.

I still like to use the post.
I think sending letters is still fun. And I love looking through catalogs and magazines. I like having some things that I can actually hold in my hands, and not be digital.

My husband does a lot of business on Ebay so he uses the US Postal Services as well as UPS and FedEx several times per week. He has a scale and prints as well as pays for his own postage and the mail carrier will even pick up packages either at our home or at our business. I still pay some bills by mail but most of them are paid over the net which is much more convenient.

ebay users must be frequently using the post and courier services as there's no alternative.
I heard paying all bills for all countries will one day become an online thing, much faster, easier and efficient, as well as time saving.
Thanks. Happy myolotting.

I think that most communication is done a lot cheaper, faster, and effectively online through email, IM, or anyother way.
About the only time we send things in the mail is for birthdays, invitations, and Christmas Cards, because sending them online can be kind of tacky.
But other then that online is so much better. I think that or society will someday just get rid of the postal service all together!
