What was God doing since eternity, for so many countless years?

Actually I wish this forum allowed some scientific notation, The idea of time is a localised even and is not perceived the same at different points in space, It can be manipulated by space and gravity. It is even harder to fathom the idea of no space/time. By this I mean before the creation of the universe there was nothing, no space, no time, no vacuum mo nothing. The universe and space did not exist. So there had to be some place or something besides a universe that did not exist. At the moment of creation time and space began, It began from outside of the universe, and can be explained in an equation but I can not type an equation here so I will have to explain it this way. Outside the universe was infinite energy and infinite negative energy, Because both are infinite there is no need to try and cancel out each other, The universe began when the energies tried to quantify itself, and the biggest explosion in history happened and was the beginning of history. From this spark a singularity happened and space appear, and a finite amount of energy escaped into this universe, The possibility also exist that there are a number if not infinite number of universes as well, and because of the presence of time they did not all have to happen at the same time. So back to your question, in this scenario God would be nothing more than energy, and existing outside of the created universe and therefore outside of time. existing in infinite past present and future. All time is as if it was the same moment, If you were standing outside the universe then the big bang has either just happened or even not happened yet.and at the same time already happened melania's ago, you would see the beginning and the end at the same time.

Good thinking! Isaiah 40:25-26 (New International Version) 25 "To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?" says the Holy One. 26 Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing. The Hebrew for "great power" can also be translated as "abundance of dynamic energy."

I read the response you have as best i.e. of islander7 and that of freethinking agent.Time outside of this or the other univesers does not exist- a sort of eternal now as stated by islander. I would like to add to it. For God Time does not exist. In other words, Creation is just a laid out plan like if you had modelled everything in solid material and the time part of is nothing but a succession of images like in a movie."Movement" is seen only when the movie is projected on a screen. For God's perch everything is "static". It is only below and when seen through the senses that you see "movement" and as a consequence of the movement the "idea" of time. Thus God "doing something since eternity" - these dynamic vocab being applied to that which is the only "entity" that is left, is more a limitation of language and our sense experience.

I think it's one of god's best kept secrets, before you ask this question, I think you should ask how did god come into existence ? who was responsible for his creation ? was he always there ? hope your questions are one day answered. Best wishes.

I remember reading somewhere that we don't yet understand what water is, and the earth is over 70% water. Have we figured out where did the water come from? How do just two elements, hydrogen and oxygen, combine to make water and there is so much of it on earth. If we can't understand such simple things, how are we going to understand, what is God? I'm reminded of a conversation between Jesus vand Nicodemus where Jesus said: John 3:12 (New International Version) 12I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things? We might not know everything about water but we still enjoy it and drink it to survive. We need God even more. We are just babies in the universe, we have to be patient as we learn about a simple thing such as water. That's why we have the desire to live forever because the universal school is just so interesting. With time we will understand so much more.

Some people believe that since G-d created the earth he has been making matches. For me it's a nice thought since I believe that although my husband and I took awhile to find each other, we were meant to be together.

Good question. I don't know. I also don't know if God has always been (alpha and omega), or if energy somehow formed a spirit over time. But I just came from another forum, where a responder said that "God" is not all-knowing, but rather learning constantly as we are. Also stated was that God is able to appreciate through us the effects of the spatial dimensions in which we live. This would coincide with the fact that I seem to have been able to involuntarily influence five people (four of them strangers) over a distance of 3,000 miles, without any awareness that I was doing it. It would explain why I am frequently able to sense when something is about to happen, and managed to catch rides to OT in the nick of time back in '04 because of it. There seems to be an external force to which I am connected, feeding tiny bits of information to me, and concurrently taking little bits away from my experience as a physical being. The post I refer to is #3 in this discussion: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1894507.aspx

Pulling the lever and seeing if it works. Like a good scientist does. Testing the stuff he decided to give to us. =D

We do not know and we probably will not know on earth. In the creation of the universe (the 7 Days), this may be a relative concept; that is, God may have done this for a billion years. These days may not necessarily have been our days. Given that time is relative to position and through human rationality, we can not really exactly what He may have been doing.

Think about your question. Define eternity and compare it with the definition of "years". It doesn't make sense. Rather, if God is eternal he is outside of time. The question you ask makes no sense.
