Getting sick and cancelling plans

Have you ever had to cancel plans because you've gotten sick? My family was planning a weekend trip to Canada this coming weekend, we've been planning it for over a month. But yesterday I got very sick. I have a bad sore throat, both of my ears hurt, and my lymph nodes are sore and feel swollen. I'm going to the doctor in about an hour to get it all checked out. I am hoping it is a bacterial infection that they can treat with a prescription, because normally you feel better within 24 hours of starting an antibiotic. Unfortunatly, if it's anything more than a slight cold that I could possibly be over by Friday, that would mean my plans for the weekend are cancelled It's very upsetting because we were all so looking forward to this trip. But I guess now it will have to wait until I'm feeling better. I'm also hoping the kids don't catch whatever I have! When was the last time you were so sick you had to cancel plans? What were the plans?

hello katsmeow i am so sorry to hear that you got sick like that and your plans got ruined for this weekend and that you have to go to the doctor today. as soon as you know what is wrong with you, please post and let us all know around here at Mylot. i sure hope that you feel better soon. i cannot stand being sick or have my body hurting anywhere. and if it is a bacterial infection and they put you on antibiotics, are you-all still planning on going to Canada this weekend anyway? if i were in your shoes, i wouldn't want to travel like that until i felt lots better and that i wasn't on any kind of medicine. it seems like nothing ever goes right when that you are taking antibiotics. hope that you get to feeling better! take care and have a beautiful afternoon.

It appears to just be a nasty cold. I was given some antibiotics, but the doc thinks it's probably just a viral infection, and doesn't think the meds will help me any. So, I have had to cancel my plans for the weekend so I can just relax and work on feeling better.

Oh I am so sorry that you are sick. If you can get on a strong antibiotic then you should be o.k. by the weekend. I just hope that the children do not catch it from you. Be extra careful about washing hands before seeing to younger children or get that antibacterial stuff that you squirt on your hands before eating etc. My brain is foggy today - cannot remember the name of it. I honestly do not remember a time where I had to cancel a trip because of illness and I hope that you do not have to cancel your plans for this weekend. Blessings

Turns out it is a very nasty cold, and I do not believe I'm going to feel better in time for my trip, so I've cancelled my plans already. Now I have all weekend to relax and work on feeling better.

It is a pity to cancel plans but if you are sick then it would not be very enjoyable. Get well soon.

I am sorry you are sick. Like you, I would be doing everything in my power to feel better - or at least good enough - on Friday to be able to leave. I can't think of a time where I actually had to cancel plans but I know there have been times where I have been sick and went on trips anyway.

We'll be staying at a friend's house while on our trip, and since I don't want to get her sick too, I've decided to cancel. I'm not feeling any better, and all my kids are feeling sick too, so I figure it best if we just relax this weekend.

The last time I was really sick was during Hurricane Katrina. I had a bad case of bronchitis and of course everything was closed for over a week, no electricity and businesses were all closed too. I had to wing it and take what medication I had in the house. Didn't have to cancel any plans --the hurricane canceled everything for us! I hope it isn't anything serious that you have picked up and you don't have to cancel your weekend plans!

yes, it happened to me too but i never let them stop for our supposedly plan in going to our beach outing. though my family was considerate enough to postpone the activity but i never allowed my being sick to spoil the activity. instead, i stayed overnight at our apartment and the next day, miraculously, i got better so i went after them. =)

I had to cancel my plans for my wedding anniversary. I was extremely sick and the really crummy thing was that we had rented a hotel room for the night away from our children. I was very dissapointed but my husband was completley understanding and even went so far as to rebook the hotel for another time. I think that there are times when there is nothing else we can do. I hope that you feel better and that you can go on your trip but if not don't be too sad, I am sure you'll be able to reschedual.

Rescheduling wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for the fact that it's very difficult for my husband to take time off work. He had to pull teeth just to get this weekend off, and of course we want more than 2 days in Canada, but he's rarely allowed more time than that. Oh well, we will just have to find a way to make it work for us.

First off I am sorry you are not feeling well. I hope you do feel better really soon and can still make the trip. I don't normally get too sick. At least not for more than a day or two. The last time I actually remember changing plans when I was not feeling well was on Mother's Day about 4 years ago. My brother had made plans for my whole family to go to this Mother's Day brunch at the restaurant he worked at. About halfway through the meal I had to excuse myself and go home. I was feeling sick to my stomach and all that food was not helping. Fortunately I lived about half a block from there at the time.

This has happen to me several times that I have to change plans since I got sick. This is really an upsetting event since you are too excited with all the planning and stuff regarding the trip and then when the day or the day before it comes you got sick and you have to postpone everything. You just felt that all the planning and excitement are just wasted since you have to cancel everything. Hope you get well soon so that there is no need to cancel the trip. Have fun and I wish you well.

The last time I was sick was more than a year ago and it happened on a Christmas so I couldn't come to our yearly family get-together. I had a very bad flu and I thought I was gonna be hospitalized. Fortunately, it subsided after a week. I think my family didn't really understand my situation that time and I got my grandmother frustrated because I wasn't present. She usually gives all her grandchildren gifts but she did not give me any. I think she even got mad at me because she didn't want to talk to me for weeks but I was just so sick and they didn't believe me. Luckily I haven't got sick since then!

I have cancelled many trips to go visit my family because at least one of us was sick. The last time I had to cancel, all of us had the flu. Not only did we cancel our trip, we all stayed in bed for the majority of the weekend.

After having disorders I've had to cancel a lot of plans for people and that made me feel really bad. I now accept the fact that we all gets sick and some are in long durations and I am more open about it and feel that health is number one. I hope you feel better and that your cold is just a slight one, but Canada will always be there for you so take care of your health first!

Two years ago my family had to cancel plans to visit my husband's family out of state because both I and our son were sick. It was very disappointing for all of us and his family because we're only able to go a couple times a year! We were supposed to go for a long four day weekend and we had to stay home. We were trying up until the last minute to still go if we could, but we both had fevers and were lying in bed miserable, so it was really out of the question. Luckily we were driving and didn't have to deal with cancelling plane tickets. I hope you feel better soon and are able to go!

Yeah! When I was younger every time I had big plans I came down with something that was severe enough to put me to bed. Someone finally suggested to me that I was getting sick because somewhere in the back of my mind I really didn't want to do whatever it was or I was afraid and if it was important, maybe if I just got out of bed and made myself go, I'd get over it. I scoffed at the idea for a long time, but one event just couldn't be put off (I don't even remember what it was) and I went in spite of being dizzy and nauseated. I got through what ever it was in spite of feeling sick, but after that I quit getting sick every time a planned event came up. Now I'm not saying you're making yourself sick because you subconsciously don't want to go, I'm just relating my own personal experience.
