A student is not a student until he fails an exam

So this is a word in my country and i was wandering if this is true where you live. To be honest, i just found out all of my grades for this exam session, and i did great, passed all of them, this making me with a ratio of promovation of 100% in college until know (with grades from 5 to 10, 10 being the maximum and 5 the minimum for passing), and i only have 1 session exam to go - and i must say i feel a student even if i failed none so far.
How about you, did you pass all of your exams, or did you fail any ?
Do you feel that a student is not a student until he fails an exam ?

I never heard anything like that. We're all students all our lives... or should be. Life is school and we're all learning all the time.
I don't believe that you have to fail an exam to 'be a student'. Being a student means you are learning. Whether you fail or not, you are still a student!
Congratulations on your great exam scores! From what you've said, you are not ONLY a student, but a very GOOD student! Keep up the good work!!!

Heya elitess. Congratulations on passing all of your exams mate as I realize how keen you've been to get these over and done with! I think that failing an exam can definitely be a good wake-up call and learning curve for many a student, but the downside is that it can be devastating for many of them as well. As long as they can use the failure to spur them on even better than ever before then I do think that failing an exam can be a positive thing, yes.
As for me, I pretty much failed ALL of my exams! lol. I loathed school big time and pretty much despised every waking minute of it. My most memorable exam result was for accounting. I received the marks of 2.5 out of 65 and I only got the 2.5 because I actually turned up for the test and also wrote my name on the top of the paper!

Hi there James. A failure is always a step forward, as long as you learn from it. It is not like it would be the end of the world if i failed an exam, but the thing is that it would cost me about 30$ to pay for it to take it again - that means a lot of money that i prefer keeping in my pocket.
I can't say i am a nerd or something, as i don't really learn outside my session exam, but i do try to keep up with the teacher requirements when it comes to the seminars.

Anyone who studies anything is a student of that particular thing.
"A student is not a student until he fails an exam"
This is a B.S theory.
Why do you need to fail and exam when you can pass one?

Hello elitess! I don't think that saying is true. For me a student is called a student the moment he/she went to school to learn. As long as you're studying no matter whether you passed or not, you're still called a student.
The time I went to school, I never tried to be failed in any of my subjects. Whenever I want something I worked hard to get it and always pray to God to guide me. He never fails to answer all my prayers. I owe God everything even when I passed the licensure exam last year, I know God is behind me all the time.
I am glad that you passed your exams elitess. You are almost there. You are really a real student.

First of all, I congratulate you on your success. I never failed, but I was not a good student too. You know, the old proverb goes 'Failure is the pillar of success." Of course, it does not mean every student has to go through failing. Any failing is a watage of time, energy and other resources. So, try to avoid that as far as possible.

Looking back, the time of a student is the best period in life time. Exams are annoying, but as long as you are doing regularly in taking classes and following the courses, they should not be too offending. Being a student, you enjoy learning not only the knowledge, but more important the way of thinking, reasoning, judging, etc. , and the way to be on good terms with people, which are so important for your life, and future career.
Some of the merits are not recognized until later in your life. Even the scolding of teachers, if any, and the make-ups of failed exams will be part of the process you will feel so grateful for cultivating you to be a man of dignity, capability, and integrity. You will be missing the days when you were a student, and be thankful to people who fostered you all the way along.

Since i started my education life i failed twice. But the end result is that for those subject i failed it was during the midterm exam and when the final year exam came, guess what, i was first with points above 90.
What i can say is that when you fail you regret but then the result is obvious if you work hard.

Your view that you are not a student until you fail an exam could not be true for all. Actually a student is meant to study and also pass exams.I feel if you dont pass an exam you should not be called a student as because there is no reason to fail an exam if you are serious studying. Maybe this does't sound good for those who spend their time and dad's money around.

That's just another saying invented by those who aren't smart or wise enough to pass all exams. I finished college without failing a single exam and there are many like me. If you ask me, a student is not a real student if he fails an exam.

At my place the definition of a student is like this;
S - Sincerity.
T - Truthfulness.
U - Uniqueness.
D - Discipline.
E - Eagerness for learning / studying.
N - Nationality.
T - Teachablity.
All these qualities a person / child must posses to be accounted as a real student!
It has no relation with failing or passing an examination. Definitely, failing / passing at an examination is a test for class promotion of a student that determines the grade, merit and permissiblity for higher studies only!
Thanks for this nice posting and have a good day!

I don't really think you need to fail once in awhile to be a student. Good for you for getting such good grades! I have never failed an exam. I've taken college classes and always got mostly A's and B's (our highest marks) without much trouble.
Remember to get enough sleep and eat properly and you will fly through the remaining exam with a wonderful grade!

I dont think so. I mean it really depends on the individual's capabilities. If he/she managed to ace every test or not fail in all of his academics then its good for him/her. That would make a perfect record. However, not failing at least one test in a way is a deprivation of the student to experience all there is to experience in being a student. That includes both a perfect score and a failing mark. Its a part of being a student but it doesnt necessarily constitute that he/she is not a student because of the absence of failure.
Anyway, congratulations in doing excellent on your exams. Keep up the good work and good luck with that last one. Take care always.^_^

I agree. I was once a student who used to burn my midnight oil yet I still flunked some exams. The professors were effective. They really want 50% of their students to fail. You won't know the joy of passing if you haven't tried failing. lol
