Are effect affected by a poor economy?

And if so How? I hear everyday that there is a poor economy. Here is how I am effected: Gas prices are lower now than a year ago, will likely go up in the summer like usual. Then back down in the winter. Groceries have gone up recently, like they do every year around this time. I don't live on any credit and have no debt so I don't have that problem. I have money in the bank and I have a job. I have a secure roof over my head and food on the table. There is work in my area if you want it. My father who is a draftsman, is very busy with road creation. I have not know anyone to lose their job or house due to poor economy. In fact I see new houses being built all the time. I see people eating out all the time. I see people buying electronics and video games all the time. After hearing about a bank who got all this bailout money had a big bucks party, I am starting to doubt this even is real??? So I would like to at least see who is affected by this and how?

right now, maybe it is not the bad time for everyone, some of the lucky people are enjoying their lives, but the grassroot are suffering the most, in china, lots of migrant workers lost their livelihood, as well as their dignity,on some occations, even can't get the rightful payment due to these ruthless boss escape from their reponsibility

I've lost some days at work because of the current economic issues. Also, budgeting has become a new lifestyle. It's always smart to save when you can whether we are in poor economic times or not.

Ummm I tend to agree with you somewhat coz even I have not been directly affected by this global recession thing. As you say, prices of daily commodities do rise and that’s regular enough in my area too. Other than that, both hubby and me are working, there’s food on the table and money in the back so we are secure as of now. However, my Dad’s been affected coz he has a small unit that makes spare parts for big machines which are imported. Now that the global order for such big machines have reduced drastically, his unit is virtually shut down. He is making do with a skeletal staff and enjoying this time with his grandson (my son)…so I guess he looks happy. But everyday I am hearing of tens of thousands of jobs being lost in various sectors so I guess there is something in this.

Perhaps different areas have different reactions to these 'crisis' they're talking about. Perhaps there are those who are emotionally in 'crisis' because of worrying too much of what the news is telling us. I think you (and some others are lucky) not to have experienced what others are experiencing now and we should be thankful for that. I don't see the crisis in my country as well because prices are going down and have even heard that pharmaceutical companies are lowering their prices this comping March. However, I've also heard of companies shutting down, thousands or millions of people losing their jobs and many who are desperate. But I've only heard those, and thank God haven't experienced it (nor heard of someone I know experiencing it). Perhaps it's those who are in the metropolis or those who are in the huge cities that are influenced by the crisis. In as much as we don't feel the crisis ourselves, this points out that we must take heed in our investments and money matters and not take things for granted. We must be ready too as it warns us that these things could happen to us too. Have a good day ahead, Happy mylotting!

Very good points you made laydee! I am a very frugal person and grew up with very little so I am always very careful on how I spend money. I think that being careful on spending would help many others as well. I am glad you haven't be effected by this either. Glad to see that medicines will be going down for those who need them. Thanks so much for sharing!

You are a very lucky person. I have not been effected yet but my company has just begun their cutbacks. We have lost our attendance bonus, company picnic..just the basics really compared to some. I drive through my neighborhood and see for sell signs galore. The people who have lost their jobs are uncountable here. It is real friend. I am glad you have not felt the effects but there are thousands more who are. Some of us are lucky enough to have dodged this depression but I am starting to feel like it is just a matter of time. Count your blessings. I do mine.

it's lucky that my family and most people I know are not affected by the slum economy. But I do believe the current economic situation around the world is worse.Especially, one of the main industry ,the iron and steel industry is affected badly.I can see this from my town's iron and steel factories that most of them operate hardly or even close down.both of you and me are really lucky, but the lucky ones are alway minority.

I live in Ohio and ive heard that ohio is one of the worst states right now. Almost everyone I know has gotten laid off! Unemployment is so backed up it can take a month or longer to get a first unemployment check! My husband is about to get his hours cut down to 20 a week instead of 40 because of slow business. No one is hiring not even fast food restaurants! I work from home but the company I work for is based out of the UK. When I get paid it is converted from UK Pounds to USD. The conversion rate is normally $1.98 for every UK Pound. NOW it is $1.42 for every pound! That is a HUGE difference and my checks have been a few hundred dollars short! Im really worried about what people are goimg to do! Unemployment does not pay much. Welfare does not give out cash assistance anymore, only foodstamps and health care.. which is NICE but that doesnt pay bills! What are people to do if they cant afford to pay their rent or mortgages? car payments? utilities? And no one is hiring? Are people going to become homeless??

Many people in my area have lost their jobs. My boyfriend works in new construction and has been laid off because there are no houses being built in the area right now. In my current place of employment, there is a hiring freeze and many people are losing their jobs. Luckily I still feel safe in my position and am one of the most senior members of our staff.

Well, I am not on the brink of bankrupcy like you are, so life goes on for me. I still eat out and indulge in my shopping once in a while. I even spent tons on a trip abroad recently. I think it's the big time executives who are mostly affected though. Companies need to lay off senior employees to save money. They replace them with younger, less experienced guys who can be paid for a fraction and will work double time. :)

I have seen several people I know who have lost their jobs. Here you see larger vehicles and large equipment that was used for contracting or excuvating sitting in yards for sale. Most that I know who have lost their jobs have been in the construction type jobs. I have seen more people in thrift stores than the norm, and some of those in fine cars,etc.. Here there are three schools that have been chosen by the state to close. That is VERY real to me! I do think that the media makes it worse and prolongs things instead of helping to promote better economy. I think too that alot of times it is politically motivated!! I have seen that the car repair places are staying so busy as people are not wanting to buy new vehicles with the way the car industry is, also not wanting to pay out that much money for a car that might not be warranted if the company who made it goes out of business. Too, the drs offices are flooded with people. As I know allergy season is coming in and also flu season, I feel that the stress of it all is affecting many now. There are many businesses here that have been around for years and now are closing their doors, not just little businesses but larger well known companies that are closing their doors. It makes you wonder what companies are going to be there or be gone within this year. I have heard of several that are again large chains that have been around since I was a child. So from here, yes it does seem very real!

Well, I know that this problem is nowhere near as bad as they (government) describes it. They're trying to scare everyone into freezing up or something -- I'm not sure. Reagan walked into a mess 10-times worse than this. Anyway, I know a bunch of people who are suffering from a lack of work. I've been lucky enough to actually have my work increase around this time. There are many people in the country who are hurting, however. But, unfortunately, every time a company goes under or something similar, some people are always hurting. After we spend more than a trillion dollars, however, we may all be affected.

I think part of the poor economy is a product of the media and the banks. they want to get more money from the government

I will agree it has not hit my home yet either, I did know an electrician that was laid of but two weeks later he had a new job. The signs are there though. There are 7% of homes in forclosure and all time high, the market is lowest it has been in years, and unemployment is closing in on 7%. It does not feel as bad as it was in the mid 70's those seemed like much toughter times.

we are living just as we have had done before, we both have jobs but my hubby was cut back several years ago and i only work part time due to health issues. we actually have less debt than we used to and are smart when it comes to shopping and whatnot. but it is real, here in canada, the auto sector is bleeding jobs big time which has a ripple effect, but for us, so far so good.
