Will the credit card work after washing it?

I really dislike my forgetful and careless husband. His wallet was lost and we couldn't find it anywhere. Mom called and told me that the wallet was in his trousers in the washing machine. The laundry was already done. OK, he has a very clean wallet now. I wonder whether the credit card still works after the washing?

I think it is okay, you have no reason to worry about it. i have met the same thing three months ago,it had been broken down to pieces. so i think it is okay.

It happened to me once. I was careless, I put all the cloths inside the washing machine without checking the contents of pockets in the trousers. I heard the noises in the machine when it is spinning but couldn't bother to check. When I took the cloths to dry, the handset drop out and looo....it has been washed. I quickly open it up and use the hair dryer to blow it dry. after sometime it is functional again. Surprise isn't it? I think your credit card need to be replaced as the chip may have been spoiled.

i think you have to try it as early as possible. Then you can get to the bank to ask for a new one. I also hate it when i am washing clothes and I told them to check the pockets and they are not doing it. But luckily my hubby knows how to clean hits pockest before putting it at the laudry bag or else he knows that I wll be noisy about it.

hello youless, i could just imagine his frustrations.. im sure there are more important "papers" and identifacation cards in that wallet too. important receipts, calling card, and all. But as what other responders here mentioned, the cards will still work prefectly okay. I once had my credit card "soaked" and all, and yet i was still able to use it afterwards. good luck! .. have a good day!

I think the credit car would be okay after the washing, so i suggest you had to call the bank to stop the service if someone get it, and use it, you would lose your money.

It is plastic and magnetic. Unless your mom uses hot water to wash the clothing, I am sure the card will still work.
Very easy to find out. Just go shopping and use the card. Good excuse to drag your partner along! And a chance to buy what you want at his expense too!

Hello youless. I think that it might be possible that it would not work since it was washed together with the laundry in the washing machine. Why? You know, the magnetic bar on the credit card might have been damaged out of this washing in the washing machine. Theoretically speaking, it is not allowed to get water on it. But anyway, I wish that it would still work with good luck.

Just give it a try at an ATM. If it does not work, I am afraid that you will have to get a new one by paying some extra ten RMB. Good luck to youless.

Hi youless! Oh my, that is terrible! I don't think the credit card will still work because the magnetic strip at the back of the card may be ruined already. I guess, it needs to be replaced.
Take care and blessings to you!

youless,
The card should be alright however you may have to check if the signature on the card is still there. This is important as establishments and banks will need the signature for verification purposes. Should it be damaged then you may apply for a replacement, which should not be a hassle.
Take care.

youless,
Whatever it is please forgive your husband's oversight on this one. I am sure he did not want this to happen in the first place. So, even if the card needs to be replaced just let it be a peaceful issue, after all it is just a matter of time.
Have a nice day.

After washing it may not work all the time and some times it work, i understood that how it happened so it is better to give back to the bank and ask them to give another one, we need to carry and keep in safe place always so then you won't get any problem.

There is no reason why it shouldn't work unless it was also exposed to a magnet in the process. Credit cards work a a result of information encoded on a magnetic strip. This is impervious to mere washing. It is possible for the strip to wear off, so repeated washings may take their toll, but the only immediate danger to a credit card (other than the interest rate!) is a magnet.

i don't think so... anyway, even if it is not working anymore, you can always ask the bank for a replacement... it is not a big deal at all... good luck anyway... hopefully your hubby's credit card will still work... take care and have a nice day...

I really wonder if that would work because I think the micro chip wouldn't sustain in water. I think he should go to an usual store and ask them if he could try using his credit card. But I really doubt if that would work.

I have to say that I have never done this myself. Maybe cause I have no credit cards. Well I do have an ATM card but that is in my purse. I remember once that I demagnetized my card after accidentally exposing it to a magnet. I had to replace it.
I hope you can get it to work cause replacement can be a hassle.
But maybe it is a sign for your husband to stop using the credit card and only you should have the privilege. Bahahaha

I think the credit card can still be in working condition even if its get wet but if its washed inside the washing machine we can never say if its still in good condition. If you try to use it again and if it still in working condition then you don't have to worry about it. But for your peace of mind you can ask your bank to replace it and tell them what really happened with the card. Have a nice day..
