My son is 2and half years old.I sit with him at times to teach him things, but don't press him too hard.He goes to a play school and had learnt counting 1 to 10.He recognises few alhpabets too, recites 2-3 nursery rhymes. Is very active in outdoor games.
My husband feels that I should put more effort as he is lagging behind, from the kids of his age.
My son wants to play with kids but when I take him to park he prefers to play with me.He says he wants to talk to a child, but when somebody tries to talk ,he shys away.
What all can I do to make him really smart?

Your child is doing quite well as far as I am concerned. He is learning at the play school and will get over his shyness. You can talk to the teacher there to see that he mixes with kids. I wonder how he is lagging behind. He is doing very well for a two and half. You can read to him from 1001 words book. There he will learn to differentiate colours, opposites, animals etc. Good luck with the kiddoo. Thankfully, my son has now grown up.

I think your son at 2 and a half is doing well in his studies. You can help him learn more by reading to him stories, counting as he swings in the playground, playing with him(which you are already doing), and just letting him discover things around him. HE can also learn to recite poems and verses, sing simple songs, and role play. With regards to playing with other kids, it may take a while for him to socialize but in time, he will also develop friendship with them. Don't worry, i think he's developing well.

Best way to teach the very young is to play with them...
I taught mine to spell their name through a song.. Cait, Till I can learn to spell my name - C A I T, I can't wait. We would sing it in the car, walking around the block.
Anything you want them to learn can be made into a game, a fun thing and after a bit they will know it and surprise everyone.
Enjoy him, don't push, and keep it fun and you will have a very happy, healthy, smart little man.
