I normally use vinegar for my cooking before but now no more. Instead of using vinegar, I use lemon or lime. I was told that vinegar is not good for health. Specially the strong one. But, I really love to use vinegar specially when I cook chicken adobo? lol.. I like to use vinegar but now I am trying to avoid it though I used it once in a while but not always.. What about you? Do you have any experience about it? did you hear people say it is not good for your body?

Oh, really, vinegar not good for the body? I don't know but i have to research on that. I always use vinegar for paksiw and adobo and also as a dip for fish and meat. I've been trying some other variations in my cooking lately using lime or tomatoes. Anyway, thanks for your discussion Bebs08, you got my attention there.

I still use vinegar in cooking sometimes. Vinegars mostly came from either coconut and sugar cane which undergoes fermentation process to make it sour.
Since it came from natural resources, I think vinegar is not really harmful to health. You can also use Pineapple Juice in cooking Adobo which is one of my favorites

It's very rare for me or my husband use vinegar for cooking,we also go the citrus rout also. I actually use vinegar more for cleaning and I even use it in my carpet cleaning machine to remove the funk from the rugs and I use it to clean my humidifier and soak the humidifier filters in it to keep it fresh.

As always there this is a little true and a little not true. You need to know that the majority of vinegar is not good. It is the over-processed vinegars, the distilled vinegars, the white vinegars that are not so healthy. They can be used for cleaning, etc.
Here is information on vinegar that is good for food. If you are using a vinegar that contains a 'mother' (looks like soot or web in the bottle) you have healthy vinegar. That soot holds a lot of nutrients. I use "Bragg" organic raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar with the 'mother.'
Go to this web page to read about the benefits of this kind of vinegar and what the difference is. Want to have great looking skin, etc., check it out:
http://bragg.com/products/acvFAQ.html
I will guess that you will be very pleased and surprised with the correct vinegar.

I use vinegar quite often. I don't take any notice of what so called experts say and leave it up to my own body to tell me what is good or not. Everything and anything in moderation is what i say. I have never heard that vinegar is not good for you but I hear lots of things about other stuff that is not good for you then twelve months or so down the track they backtrack and say no its not bad for you unless you do such and such with it.
Its all called conditioning of the masses. Take note of things and you will see what i mean in more ways than one. But then that is only my opinion I let others make there own decisions.

I have never heard that. I think people often see it as a health good and give it more miracle attributes then it really does have but I don't think it is unhealthy.

Hi, Bebs08! I used to use vinegar to cook with. I would put a small amount in my chicken. That is only if I am stewing it or broiling it. But, that is every blue moon. The last time I used vinegar would be about 10 months to a year ago.. I hardly ever use it. And if it is not good for ones health, then I am staying away from it! I have heard that vinegar is good for cleaning purposes. I don't think that I will be using it because vinegar smells funny to me when it comes to cleaning.. Thanks for sharing this insight with me, I will take it into consideration!

even i like to use vinegar in my cooking but i am not using it now as i am not finding the right one as there are more number and different times of vinegars and i am not able to decide which is the right one to use it for cooking. i know vinegar really adds to taste and it is ore used in chinese dishes. but same here i am also using lemon instead of vinegar for my cooking, but i havent heard of that, vinegar is bad for health and there are ore people where they use vinegar for salads and they consume more.

hello bebs..
I atill use vinegar to cook some Filipino dishes lol...
but I don't overuse it.. I sometimes use our native citrus, calamansi.
I've heard some cases that some of our local vinegar would not pass the fad because of the factory's unsanitary condition or that they had made the vinegar using too much health hazardous acids, etc... So I know what you're trying to point out on this... it's a sad thing though...
If you're worried about using any vinegar healthwise well, you could try using some more expensive ones like apple vinegar. We've been using this at home. It is good though it tasted a bit differently from what we are used to but it is safe.

I use vinegar in many of my cookings, and find it a nice add on to many dishes. I even dip my french fries in it occasionally! I haven't heard anything about vinegar being bad for your health, though. I would only think it's bad because it's highly acidic, but I'm not quite sure. Very interesting.

I've never used vinegar much in my cooking, only if the recipe called for it. I haven't heard anything bad about using it either, I guess its alright, if you just use it once in awhile like you said...Have a good day

I do very much, specially if am cooking my native food at home. It's a dish we call "Paksiw" in tagalog; a fish recipe cooked in vinegar w/ a lot of spices. I also used vinegar in cooking my beef steaks and my chicken adobo......soooo yummmy!

maybe you are talking about the synthetic vinegar which is not good in our body. But since in our country we do have sugar cane vinegar, i think this is all natural sour acid and i guess nothing is wrong to use it, not unless everything which is used too much is not good.
About cooking chicken adobo, i haven't tried using lemon as an improvised taste to sour it. I don't want to compromise the taste of adobo so i would still use vinegar for it. But when it comes to curry, yes i do use lemon to the chicken.
I wonder if you already tried to use lemon to sour the taste in adobo instead of vinegar. How has the taste then? i think in Philippines, lemon is costly than vinegar, not unless you rely on calamansi which we use always for dip.

Well, I use to have vinegar for adobo and paksiw when I was in the Philippines.. You are truly right.. it might depend upon the tpe of vinegar. Oh yea, I have tried using calamansi and soy sauce in my adobo.. and it taste good but the meat is not that soft. What I noticed was that, vinegar can soften the meat if you use it in cooking meat. So, therefore that is what will happen to our system too when we use too mucj of vinegar? well, it all depends upon the kind of vinegar.

I have never heard that vinegar was unhealthy. As a matter of fact, I have heard the opposite. Lemon and lime are healthy as well, so either way, I believe that you are doing good by using it. Especially since it adds flavor to food, that way you may be able to cut down on the use of salt, which is not healthy (in excess anyway). I would use vinegar, lemon or lime in any food that calls for it. I think that the only way vinegar is unhealty is if you drink it like a soft drink or something. Otherwise, I do believe vinegar is safe.

Well, using too much of vinegar is not healthy... but it depends upon the type of vinegar. Most average people would buy the cheap kind of vinegar which is I think the unhealthy one and they use it most of the food that they prepared.. so, that's what I mean because I have a friend who got liver problems due to using a lot of vinegar in her diet.
