My Fault

I answered something here earlier today and gave a statistic from memory. I was way out and have been caught out and had my knuckles rapped. I should have researched my reply better. Do you research before your respond, or guess, like I did, and hope that you got it right?

When I reply to a question, it is usually coming from the heart or my own opinion. I have never really come across a question that I wanted to "research." I feel that many are asking opinions, such as what would you do if you were in their position, and those type of answers really can't be researched. I think your best answers are based on your life experiences and not what you are able to "pull up" on the web.

Same here; it all depends on what topic it is though. If it is "love advice" we are talking about, I share from the heart, and by using my own experiences. If it is medical or scientific or geographic, or political, etc., then I go by recent statistics.

Not always!! LOL!! I use vague terms such as "I think" "I believe" "I guess" "I might be mistaken" and so on. So far, nobody has rapped me on the knuckles. :)
Cheers and happy Mylotting

It very much depends on what needs to be said. I have been labelled by certain friends as he 'To Whom All Things Are Known' (or that tw@t, AK). Actually, this is not quite true. My mind is full of useless junk but these days it is becoming harder and harder to lay my hands on a particular piece of information just when I need it, so I begin to rely more on the adage of the Automobile Association - "No, I don't know but I know a man who does" (that 'man' being the author of some reference book or, increasingly, a web page).
There is method in my madness, however. I may be making a couple of cents answering a question here but I also subscribe to a service that pays me a little more than that for every search I do. It's not a lot, I guess, but I can effectively earn three or four times the amount for a response than I otherwise would by doing a couple of searches. It's not that I count every penny I earn here but it's nice to hear them a-jingling as an accompaniment to having fun.
I didn't need to research this response, by the way. I just guessed wildly.

BDM is just another pejorative term with which the more intelligent, sensitive and thoughtful among us tend to be labelled by the practical, busy and no-nonsense types who cannot tolerate our vacillation and deliberation. Don't worry about it.
MyHomepagesFriends (ghastly name) is not a toolbar but it adds itself to the list of available search engines in the search bar of the browser. You can read more about it in the little mini-review in my profile, if you wish. I expect to make about £70 a year from using it (and already got £50 in December). There is some doubt about the promptness with which it pays but, since I do searches anyway, I don't feel that I am losing anything if they turn out to be dodgy.

Since I'm a firm believer that I know a little bit about everything I reply to here I usually go with my gut. I haven't gotten a spanking from misrepresenting a statistic yet. Lucky boy you.

I always research. Of course, I try to use statistics that are more current, say, within the last three years. Otherwise, a statistic older than that is obsolete, and detracts from your credibility, as was instructed by my Composition II professor.
Bah! So what - you made a mistake. It could happen to anyone. Just pick yourself up by the bootstraps and move on! Happy MyLotting!

poor knuckles.....
I tag my information with something like... If I remember right or I think it's or maybe somebody else can say for sure but I remember it like....
That way if I'm right... great... but if I'm wrong then it's still all good. Does that make sense?
Now make sure you ice those knuckles or let one of us ladies kiss em a bit to make them better

All information I share comes from a very reputable and accurate source called "Jamesipedia", so as far as I'm concerned, it's not even POSSIBLE to be wrong! But every now and then I do double check other sources before making any figures based comments. It's best that I do this every now and then to not get too big a head, yes? I'm glad you agree.

If it weren't for the Jewish Samurai, we'd have never had calamari! Thanks for reminding me of their humble beginnings. I am ashamed of myself for letting go of my historical learnings of this ilk and this re-cap provided a long overdue kick in the butt for me. It's just a shame that the British Samurai never showed up because he could have turned the fly into a Monarchist and then made everybody some tea!

I am more likely to just not respond or omit the statistic from my response altogether than I am to go research it. That is unless it is something I am passionate about. I suppose that is a bad thing to admit, but I have said it before that I come here for a mindless getaway. If I start working too hard for my responses it might become less fun to me.

It depends on the type of discussion like for example this discussion I don't have to research my answer I know that I have done research for some discussions and I have posted the places where I have gotten my information from when I debate with anyone so that I have all my ducks in a row.

I don't have to research.

Well, if it is something that happened in my life then from memory but if it didn't I always look it up since I don't have a good memory about things other then me and my family.

Research? Isn't that like hard work or something???? I respond as best I can from my own mind and if I happen to get something wrong then so be it - none of us are perfect and sh*t happens. I do have a slight problem though I am the one who is supposed to rap your knuckles! Hmmmpppppphhhhh xxxx

Ah, statistics, statistics and more damned statistics! I'm afraid I tend to run off at the mouth quoting things which may or may not be totally accurate - and remember once saying one out of every four people was gay. My four children looked at eachother wondering which of them it was!

Depends on what I'm doing p1kef1sh, if it's one of my video tutorials then I research it cos I don't want to appear stupid but if it's on here then there's nowt wrong in guessing or offering a guess...mostly we get away with it looking spectacular but sadly sometimes there's always one amongst us that knows better... what a shame they were on that particular discussion of yours..oh well better luck next time eh!
