Sometimes I hear a phrase that just cracks me up. That was today's phrase.
While my son is taking his swim lessons, there is also a water class for the elderly with arthritis taking place at the other end of the pool. Today while waiting in the lobby for class to start one of the elderly ladies dropped her cell phone on the floor causing it to start beeping. She opens it to fiddle with buttons and my son decides he should help her figure it out . (Come here sweetie, she doesn't need your help) Next, she gets a phone call and decides she needs to turn it off for class, "how do you turn off this silly thing", she says.
I was so busy trying to distract my son away from her that I missed the 3rd thing that happened with the phone, but I finally saw her open her bag, toss the cell phone in it and proclaimed with a sigh "I'm fed up with fancy". Cracked me up!!! Poor thing, I wanted to just hug her..... knowing she probably only carries the silly thing because her children bought it for her.
Last week I was trying to text a message to a friend, just one word and my phone kept correcting the spelling.... wouldn't let me send what I wanted to send. I sorta felt like this lady ~ spell check is fine and all, WHEN YOU WANT IT. Ugh!
Do you ever catch a phrase like this that just cracks you up? Got one to share?
Or what about you, do you ever get fed up with fancy?

I guess I'm one of those anti-technology ppl...other than my pc. I don't do cellphones, ipods, blackberries or any of the other little gadgets that come out just about every day. I prefer my plain old phone with an answering machine, the radio and a wall calender. My Dad is in his 60's and only got a cellphone a few years ago for medical reasons. He still doesn't have a pc, a dvd player or any other little gadgets...maybe that's where I get it from.

I am very much that way. We have been using tracfones for awhile so that we could communicate easily with one or the other of us working strange shifts or driving out of town. I find that with my new position it is essential to have a cell of some kind. Until it is proven to me that a plan is cheaper than pay as you go, I will keep my tracfone, and no, I do not text.

twoey68 ~ you get it honestly, nothing wrong with that.
Gerty ~ tracfone is just the thing for a lot of people. It's great to have it available.

Oh sis that warmed my heart! WE bought my Grandmother a mobile (cell) years ago so that she would always be able to get help etc and took weeks making sure she knew how to use it but to be honest she never really understood it - she cannot work the tv remote so we have no real chance with a mobile phone! lol
Hugs xxxx

Lol, I've known many people who tried to set there grandparents up with cell phones and it just never quite worked. The stories are pretty funny.

I like the saying, and no, I have not heard it before. I have a friend who used to say about her work, "It's all the same pay", and I liked that. She ran a school district warehouse, could keep inventories, taught night time college classes and she then would do custodial work inside the warehouse area. There was nothing that was above, or beneath her. She always said "It is all the same pay." and I liked that philosophy.

Your cell phone has spell check? Now that is fancy! After Katrina a lot of seniors started carrying cell phones because they needed to be able to communicate and it took a while to get the phone lines back up and running.

My cell phone can cook dinner for me . I don't need all of its functions.... hubby wanted it.
Yes, I've heard about there being an increase of cell phone usage in your area after Katrina. What a life altering experience that was for so many!

The only thing I know how to do with my cell phone is answer a call and send one. It can do many more "fancy" things but I have never felt the need to learn how to use them. I have never even texted a message ....too much trouble.

I can empathize with that lady. My kids all are wizs at texting, etc but I only talk on my cell. Sometimes they text me. For me to text them back takes longer than it would to simply talk to them. I do like the lady's name for it--fancy. LOL

I agree on texting taking too long. I could have called them back in run an errand in the time it takes.

That's completely hilarious to me because it sounds exactly like my grandma...you don't happen to live in Florida do you? I think my grandma might actually take a water exercise class. Anyway, my grandma gets completely flabbergasted with computers and phones and other modern technology, but she tries really hard to make it work. Sometimes I feel the same way, especially if my phone rings in a class. What ever happened to calling people when they were at home?

Haha, no I don't live in Florida.
What ever happened to calling people when they were at home? I was the same way for years and held out on getting a cell phone forever. My sentiment was always 'If you can't reach me at home it's because I'm busy..... leave a message.' Lol

I do have my own 'catch phrase.' It replaces the language I would normally use for roadhogs, manic street cyclists and the like, when my kids are with me.
It's "Good grief!" It doesn't sound much, I know; but it's all in the pronunciation: A short "Good" followed by an emphatic, drawn out "Grief!" in a really hoity-toity English accent. Like this:
"Good grrIEF!"
My kids all mimic me now. It's become a family catchphrase. Defuses most situations.

That was so funny makingpots! I worked as a sales agent for a cellphone and sometimes I get calls from elderly people needing of a cellphone and when I go on with the features of the phone that I was trying to sell to them, they get lost. They'd tell me " If it rings when someone's calling I'll take it". Happy mylotting.

I think my mom and dad said the same thing or something similar when we took them to buy theirs. So funny.

This is too cute! I can definately sympathize with her. I had to have my husband teach me how to turn the phone on silent, how to reject a call, etc.
I'm afraid I don't remember any of the sayings my husband is always using lol. I've a horrible memory, but he has a lot from his Army's days that just boggle me sometimes that I have to go "Eh?"

From his army days?..... I'll bet there are some great ones.
I often have to get help figuring out things on my cell...I can do most things but once in a while that random thing will just be hidden in some menu and I would have never figured it out myself.
We get by with a little help from our friends.... nothing wrong with that.
Namaste!

This made me laugh. I have been where that lady was. I just figured out how to text the other day i was so proud of myself. Sad I know. I have a simple phone but I hear my son fiddle with his phone and say over and over 'I hate this phone" that make s me laugh to. I am going to remember that saying "I am fed up with fancy" I think its great.
