I don't know what to do because it was free and I can't afford to to upgrade it or buy it. the gave me 60 days when I got my new Computer, last night I was on my computer, It kept flashing saving i have 7 days, now i don't think it is working right, because a voice gave up on my computer and it said ina loud voice you have a trojan Virus? I tried to scan the computer it said that the computer was safe, but I don't think it is.usually if it is ok, it will have agreen check, well it had a red Exclaimation mark so I know something is wrong, someone here told me to install Avast, so I know that you are not suppose to run them both and the same time, and I think Avast could be interfering with Norton? Shall i delete Avast untill my Norton expire and then add Avast? I don't know if I should what do you think? I am not that good with Computers if you know what I am talking about post it here. Thank you in advance.

awww, Benny. My norton is also expired and I haven't uninstalled it yet. But I run MS bit defender and AVG on my laptop. I don't want to download spybot even if it's good because when it is uninstalled it causes errors which happened on my desktop. Is avast really good?

I used license Norton anti-virus. I really love the performance of license Norton. You said your free Norton anti-virus is about to expire. Sorry to hear that but free antivirus mostly can't clean your system. I recommend you to install Kaspersky antivirus within 60days period. So far, in all free antivirus only Kaspersky satisfy me. But after 60days free trial it's up to you to purchase but the price is too high that is why i choose Norton. Well, i also tried avast but not really good but the performance still okay.

Norton is a steaming pile of rubbish, and you can easily get an equivelant AV for free (AVG, Avira etc). If you are concerned that you may actually have picked up some sort of virus then go to trendmicro.com and run their free online virus scan (it's called housecall) and that will take care of the problem for you.....good luck

Hey, Drop Norton as quick as you can. If you are struggeling for cash then a good option would be AVG FREE. I use that it is pretty good and its free. Allan

My free Norton ran out months ago and I still get 2 pop ups that tell me to renew it. Even though I uninstalled Norton, I still get these pop ups and it ticks me off, because I don't know how to get rid of them. I use Spybot search and destroy, it's free and really good. I used it on my old computer for 5 years.

I hope nothing is wrong. Maybe it was just a pop up to scare you, I have gotten them before like that and nothing was wrong. You can always get AVG free. Thats what I use. They do have a version that cost money but the free one is good too. Just go to AVG.com and follow the directions. I hope someone here can answer your other questions, I am like you. I don't know alot about computers neither.

I don't like Norton one little bit, my friend, so I can't support them. It was installed on my computer when I bought it but I soon dumped it and installed AVG free programme. I had that for a year and was very satisfied with it, so I upgraded. It cost me $29.95 for a whole year, and I have no complaints whatsoever. It has a adware and spyware blocker as well as all the general virus checkers, firewall, email scanners etc, and I'm about to renew in May. If you were to ask my advice, it would be to uninstall Norton completely. They mess up your computer rather than guard it, to my mind! Brightest Blessings.

Hey darkwing I had that one when I had my old computer, I worked fine for a couple of years and then it started crewing up, but that was because i didn't know what I was doing scanning and just doing different things with it. So how it got out of control, it use to scan my computer automatically at a certain taime,. but I don't know what happen, i kept doing it manually sometimes, so that is how I probably screwed it up, I really don't know a lot about computers I ma still learning I taught myself how to work with computers but i still need advice and tips on how to do certain things I would like to take a class in it again, they only showed me the basics about it, I would like to lesrn how to build a website and trouble shoot them and everyhing, My computer Guy that use to repair my computer I would watch him sometimes. I leaned a lot from him, but he isn't in my town right now, I am about tomove so I will be in touch with him as soon as I get back in my town.

i would recommend you switch to a new anti virus as soon as possible by uninstalling completely the previous anti virus in this case the NORTON Avast is a good anti virus in many peoples mind and i also used it for a long period i actually still have it on my old computer. But to tell you two anti virus software can not co exist peacefully so as soon as you can uninstall one of them .

this is a good thing that you uninstalled Norton i hope now you would not be having any problem to my knowledge AVAST is free for home users you just got to register online i think. i m not too sure though anyway it is really cheap and less ram consumer than compared to Norton you have made a good decision today.

I got a virus the other day looking at a friends myspace pictures. I thought I stopped it but it was there. I even have mcafee but I still had to restore my whole computer and I lost some pictures before I got to load them on cd. Good thing I put them on photobucket but now I will have to load them back to my computer and then store them on a cd. I think I will start loading a cd once a month with my pictures just in case. I get mcafee throught my internet provider so you may want to check yours out. They may offer some kind of software to help you out. Remember to back up everything. A another good idea I started doing. if I like a site enough to put it in my favorites I also send it in an email to myself and put it in a saved folder. Makes it easier then trying to remember every website you had in your favorites and even when you get a new computer the saved folder will still be there. unless you use outlook express.

Norton Slows.. slows and slows.. and in the process is so lenient with Viruses. If you are using AVAST PROFESSIONAL VERSION, straight away delete Norton. Even Avast Home Edition 4.8 is effective enough, and you can use it free for 365 days. Have a good time friend.

60 days is for Avast professional edition, which is used for commercial purpose, but then Avast Home Edition of 4.8 is completely free. It can be downloaded from the home page of Avast site. Have a good time friend.

I just had our older computer in to be serviced and there were so many viruses on it that the guy called and said he couldn't do anything but reset it to the factory settings. so we lost all of our files, music, pictures, etc. and what made me the maddest is that we had norton the whole time! The guy that fixed our computer told me that norton was no good and caused more problems than it fixed/prevented. He put a new antivirus(a free one from our internet provider) on our old computer and told me to take norton off the new computer and install the one from our IP. good luck

just install a free anti-virus avast and avg etc etc are all free for the basic home user, long gone are the days of having to buy anti-virus, free is always the way to go, then if you dont like it un-install it and try another one instead of thinking I just wasted £30.

Hi there. Forget about Norton or Avast. First, go to your add/remove programs icon in Control Panel, and remove your Norton. Next, download the free version of AVG anti-virus. It has a rating of 98% effectiveness. It also scans your system everyday for any worms viruses or Trojans, and quarantines them, if found. It's an amazing anti-virus, and I recommend it highly. Don't worry, for the little time that it takes to download, you'll be OK. Another fairly good one, is AntiVir. But I'm not too sure... I think it costs about 7 dollars and change per month, but IS a darn good one. Another one is COMODO. Mind you, with this one, it will scan EVERYTHING in your system as you perform all tasks, and will give you pop-up window indicating whether or not you accept. The windows do get quite annoying at first, but once you've gone through your whole system, then they will no longer pop-up...unless you download something else, of course. It is extremely effective. The other thing that may annoy you about it, is that if you have a large hard drive, then it's going to take some time to get through all the pop-ups. My best bet is go with the AVG. You'll love it. I, and all my friends use it, and have never been disappointed. cdrxo

From the report that was on "60 Minutes" on Sunday about all of the viruses and worms that are just waiting to attack our computers, I'd come up with the money if I were you. I wouldn't want to take a chance of getting some of that stuff. The main worm they were talking about infiltrates your computer and takes commands. They aren't sure what it will eventually be commanded to do, but they do know it has the power to destroy the Internet. I have had viruses in the past, and I now keep both anti-virus software and a spyware program on my machine.

I use AVG which is free for the basic program which is quite good. I have upgraded and paid for the full program which includes anti-spam etc. but I did use the free one for some time with some free anti-spam stuff and spybot. I only bought the upgrade to tidy the machine up

The red exclamation point doesn't mean anything is (necessarily) wrong with your computer. It only means that your subscription is about to expire or that there is interfering software (probably...there is a small chance you have a virus, but if you scanned and it said it was clean, then it is unlikely). I'd wait until AFTER you uninstall Norton to install Avast. Usually anti-virus programs don't like eachother very much and get in the way. Neither of them will work very well while the other is installed.
