Okay I have finally gone and done it - I quit smoking just over 3 months ago now and am very proud of myself! I haven't slipped once not even a little puff nor have I gained weight, which is fantastic as I need to lose some as it is! lol
I rarely get out because of my lack of mobility etc and as I was quitting the ncotine habit I was terrified to have a drink at all! Well tonight that stops, the kids are off at my sisters , the other half wants to watch football on tv and is happy to bunny sit and my boss (I haven't been able to work for over 2 years but he is still my boss) has offered to bring me home at the end of the night so I am off out for a night at the pub! I am really excited and although you cannot smoke in the pub I am afraid that when I have a drink or two the temptation to go out back and have a cigarette may be too tempting! Aaaarrrghh NO I won;t give in to that temptation but i know this is going to be the biggest test yet. Anyone want a drink? Whatever you do though please don't offer me a cigarette! Hugs xxx

Lol, I have yet to get to my own spring cleaning yet, I keep putting it off so far..really not knowing where to put everything or what to throw away, give away or whatever..My mom's landlord ask me the same thing..lol But I guess for me it would be harder to clean for other people so I turned him down. So now he has his wife, stepdaughter, and granddaughter doing it..But if I lived closer I wouldn't say no to helping you..

I quit 3 years ago. If you really want to do it, you will. The good thing is soon you'll be noticing how much healthier you feel. Food will soon be tasting different. Your sense of smell will be stronger. I eat foods now that I hated when I was smoking. I also eat healthier foods because they taste better to me now. Good luck to you.

WEll done you - I want to be like you! I must admit that I haven't really noticed any changes yet but I don't cough so easily! I am still out of breath all the time but that only started with the chronic pain and the pain is what Drs have told me causes the breathlessness. Thanks for the encouragement! xxx

Have the time of your life but Do NOT smoke!!! If you've gone 3 months, you can do this. From experience, I'm telling you...don't think that after a couple of drinks that you can just have one and then be ok....you'll be right back into it. That is how I fell back into it after almost a year nicotine free. Tell everyone to not even let you have a hit of theirs no matter how much you beg. 3 months is something to be proud of...don't backslide now. Hope you have a great time! Let us know how you did.

I will be here to support and encourage you when you are ready sweety! I do agree that you are doing the right thing by psyching yourself up to it , getting your mind around things is vital! I know that I couldn't have done it without a good support network around me and NONE of them nagged me in any way only encouraged and praised! Please do let me know when you are stopping and I would be proud to be a part of your support network! Hugs xxx

I am still smoking. I've cut back a lot and now its a matter of setting up a date and syking myself to go for it. I am not looking forward to going thru it all over again but it's the only way. If you could have drinks and not slide back then you are doing good. I'll let you know when I actually go to quit and maybe you can give me some pointers. I am going to go cold turkey this time which is much more difficult but I hear much more effective. Keep up the good work!

If you get drunk enough you won't miss the ciggies................ok, maybe not, so better to stay home and bug the hubbie! LOL
I hope you have a good time regardless and that you emerge triumphant from your sojourn into 'drink but won't smoke' land! You can do it mummy, I have complete faith in you!

Great going....myself a smoker for more than decades has quit the bad habit in preference to maintaining good health after a sudden cardiac arrest.

Good for you, mummymo! As a smoker myself, I know how difficult giving them up is. I agree that it will be a test when you go out for a drink because the two acts are usually so closely associated, but I don't doubt your ability to succeed given that you've remained smoke-free for such a length of time. I rarely drink at all anymore, so I think my biggest hurdle would be the a smoke after a meal.

Thanks so much honey and your faith was rewarded - in fact I wasn't tempted at all although I did talk about it a lot! lol After a meal was my worst time - when I first stopped I used my inhalator after every meal and it helped both the nicotine craving and the hand to mouth action - you know what I mean and even though I haven't used it at all in a long time I still carry it with me at all times just in case I feel my will power crumbling! Hugs to you honey! xxx

hi there! i just did a ciggie related discussion too!
be strong when you go out. i made myself hate ciggies to the point i would vomit if i placed one in my mouth. i guess i 'self hypnotised' myself, but it worked!
i have not had a single puff sinse i gave up 2 years ago.
I am 2 stone heavier though!

Ive been trying to quit smoking but have failed about 5 times now. Monday i plan on trying again. Cigs just went up here and they are now 7. a pack ouch. I had a doctor tell me that quitting heron is easier to do than to quit smoking.

Congratulations! Well as they say that if you can break your habit within 21 days it is a good sign that you can reall get that habit broken forever. In your case you have broken the 21 day rule.
But it doesn't mean you have really broken it for good. You still have to continuously motivate yourself from breaking it. habits are really hard too break but with your strong will power it can stay that way always.

Giving up smoking is really nice. We really feel happy when we hear that some one has given up smoking or drinking. At the same time one has to be watchful of the relapse. You can move a mountain with strong will power. Keep it up as you stop smoking and be torch bearers for others.
