Hubby sent me a wonderful video this morning and while watching it, it made me realize how much we tend to judge ppl by their looks. Take a second and look at the video and you’ll be amazed just as everyone there was. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lp0IWv8QZY&feature=related This woman really is a tiger underneath and I think she’s going to go far. She reminds me of Neal E. Boyd…he’s a force to be reckoned with (here’s his link in case you missed him http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-7zYPT-jpA )…real superstars once their given the chance to shine. Have you ever judged someone and then been amazed at what was underneath? What do you think of these two singers? **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I try not to be judgmental towards people since I myself hate being judged but there are times I just can't help it. I watched America's got Talent and I was glad to see he won. But I also seen a thing at the end that he doesn't get the money all at once that it is paid off in monthly installments. Over like a 40 years period depending on which you choose. But it is only like worth little over $300,000 dollars if they take it all..at once... http://www.realityblurred.com/realitytv/archives/americas_got_talent_2/2007_Aug_03_prize Here's a link..

I opened a discussion praising Susan Boyle three days ago:http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1977232.aspx I agree that looks have nothing to do with a God given talent such as a wonderful voice. Both Neil and Susan brought me to tears with their voices.

I wached this show and my first impression was, 'oh no, not another one'. My husband said she would be good as he had listened to her speaking voice and thought her singing would at least be in tune. We were both amazed and delighted when she began to sing. Good luck to her. I have to remember not to judge a book by its cover and this lady certainly proved why not.

I think these two singers are amazing, it just goes to show us that often times we tend to judge people by the way they look, we don't judge them on whats underneath. I hope these two people go very far, they deserve it.

You didn't mention the show but I figured you're speaking about the 47 year old English lady who belted out that magnificient song! I think it's wrong for them just to decide a person has nothing underneath if their looks don't meet their standards! I'm glad they all got shocked! SHE did a wonderful job.I hope she goes on an makes millions!

It's too bad it took this long for the world to notice her. You know if she was young and pretty we would have heard of her long before this.

Both vocalists have amazing voices. They deserve a chance to be heard. I was so enthralled by this woman's singing ability. Neal E. Boyd was awesome. He was truly worthy of winning last season.

I heard Sarah Boyle's beautiful voice on television and on the web. She is really good. I hope that Sarah wins the competition, makes a lot of money, and finds a great husband. She has so much talent. I try not to judge people on looks. Looks can be so deceiving and not the truth. Real beauty lies within a person!

I do not judge people by that, because I have seen many Country and Western singers that are overweight, and not that good looking but have very good voices. In fact, I feel they could have made it in opera and classical. I think that some people seem to think that African American people can sing better, but I am surprised that this Neal E. Boyd could sing opera. I tend to think of them singing rhythm and blues. As for Miss Susan Boyle, before I heard her and read that she had been singing since she was 12, I imagined someone with a raspy voice. We usually judge based on ethnic group, and then age. But had I not known about the aging country and western singers and their good voices, I would have felt no way.

Yes, it is unfortunate that we frequently can't get past looks. The sweetest couple I ever know was odd. He had severe cerebral palsy and she was a lovely, beautiful woman. Both of them were the kind of people you would be proud to know.

I see you discovered Susan Boyle too. I did a discussion about her as well a few days ago praising her. I loved listening to Neil. Did you by any chance ever hear Paul Potts' version of Nessun Dorma --he was on Britain's Got talent and won last year...here is his version of it...and another case of not judging a book by its cover as he's kind of frumpy looking as well....LOL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1k08yxu57NA

I always try not to judge a book by its cover. I would like to smack those people who were laughing at Miss Boyd, thinking she would be no good because she wasn't their idea of beautiful. People like that should have to be "ugly" for a year of their lives so that they have a taste of what it is like to be ignored and ridiculed.

Having been in show business most of my life, I have learned not to judge talent by looks. It is like saying if someone is pretty, they cannot be smart, or if someone is thin, they cannot be a good cook. It just proves the old age of not judging a book by it's cover and good lesson for us all to stop judging others, ever.

Hello Twoey, Hmmm, I'm just struck by the similarities between Neil and Susan's last names -- Boyd and Boyle. Anyway, when I first saw the Youtube video of Susan Boyle, I had a very difficult time turning the spigot off -- yup it was Kleenex time. I was overwhelmed by her 9 minute introduction to the world. While Les Miserable is not my favorite musical, I do love the piece that she chose from it. My awe of her vocal talent was all the more solidified when I heard her rendition of "Cry Me A River", as recorded on a CD for a charitable cause in 1999. Please allow me to recount my experience hearing it. The Youtube snippet of the cd recording is audio only, no video. As such, I closed my eyes and found myself comparing Susan's voice to Julie London's as well as Ella's. Though, truth be told I couldn't shut out a warm remembrance of Lena Horne her having defeated ALL odds as I listened to Susan passionately caress the lyrics of this old classic. The song was originally written for Julie London, and her raspy, though somewhat thin voice does do the song justice. Still, Ella brought real soul to it. While Susan brings sincerity and passion to it. Susan's voice is richer than Ella's and much more full-bodied than Julie London's. Although in all fairness Susan did lose both vocal strength and clarity in the lower range. Still, the miss didn't deter me from my enthusiasm for her. Then something rather interesting happened. With my eyes still closed, my internal vision associated a vision of Dolores, the red dressed heroine of Roger Rabbit acclaim to the majesty of Susan's voice. I interpret it thusly: Susan's voice is such the embodiment of beauty, for me, that I determined that only a characature was able to fully represent the beauty of Susan's voice. check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jI2DxkrgpgQ Here's a comparative rendition -- featuring Pres. Ronald W. Reagan & Nancy!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYEJqZQOsHg And, here Aretha Franklin ruined this song at the Clinton inauguration. What a shame! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dl5ZM02s7yA As for Neal, well one doesn't have to be an opera officianodo to recognize that Neal could one day be recognized on par to some of the true operatic tenor greats ... yes, perhaps even Pavarotti. I am a huge fan of Opera and the voice as an instrument, so I was particularly taken by this young insurance salesman's gift. I could be mistaken, though I think that I heard him miss the denoumas by a half note, but it didn't matter. I was so surprised to hear the honey-like quality of his voice that I was overwhelmingly left wanting more. Both Susan and Neal represent the timeless tale of talent gifted without regard for physical appeal. A talent sufficient to move the soul of man should not be dependent on aesthetic appeal. I have never watched any of these American Idol type shows. So, I'm curious, when did Neal E. Boyd go through? As for Susan, I realize that she's competing in the British circuit, so I have my doubt that America will be privy to the unfolding of her talent. I also suspect that these 'talent' competitors may be prohibited from signing contracts while they're competing (I could be totally wrong there, since I've never watched one and don't know the rules). Though, I can say that when Susan's first CD is released, I WILL purchase it, with the hope that she never loses her potent grounding, as that is the source of her talent. Anyway, thank you Twoey -- your discussion has brought me down an amazingly pleasureable road this evening. It now ends, as it's bedtime, with one of my favorite Broadway singers, Bernadette Peters singing "Not a Day Goes By". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kMlQgyz834 (I promise that if you watch this video it will provide a whole new perspective on stage talent!) Twoey, thanks for this walk down memory lane!

What a great in-depth response you've given earning you best response :) Thank you for the links and I'll definately enjoy them. I don't know alot about music but I know what I like. I know when I listen to Neil Boyd sing I get choked up and a shiver goes down my spine. As to Susan Boyle, it's like having warm sunshine on your face. As to the show, I don't know alot about it but I do catch pieces of it now and then. My understanding is that you have to compete 3 seperate times each time moving higher while others are voted off. In the final round it is down to just two ppl, whoever wins gets a million dollars and a show in Vegas (not sure on the British one). Neil Boyd won the money and show last year for the US competition. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

A friend sent me this link yesterday. The judges and the entire audiance were judging her on how she looked and were laughing at her until she started to sing. She got a well deserved standing ovation at the end and even one of the judges was on her feet applauding. People get judged on how they look and not on what they can do far to often. Good luck to her (not that I think that she needs luck with a voice like that). I think that after this, she'll be snapped up by a recording company in no time.

excellent video. The looks on everyones faces was priceless LOL! Thanks for that link, twoey, made my day. I do think that people are judged on there looks far too often. It goes both ways too. There are a lot of beautiful people out there who are stereotyped also, but I doubt that it will ever change. Again thanks for the link.

I think as a human being everybody judges everybody wheather we realize it or not. I remember seeing the female on the news the other night. I thought that she wasnt going to have the voice she did have. She ended up having a beautiful voice. More than what I'll ever have lol. Many times I have been proven wrong when it comes to just looking at somebody and just making a quick judgement. The both of them have beautiful voices and should be proud to show it off to America. :)

Yes you are right , people do tend to put to much on a persons appearance, and we all do it....It was so fun watching everyone's opinion change as soon as she started to sing. I think it only took two or three words, and everyone had a instantly different opinion of her. She was great, and i hope that she goes far.
