and retired at a young age like before 30 years old? Would you be happy that way? Or would you still like to work? What would you do everyday if you don't need to work, let's say you won't starve and have little pocket money for luxurious stuff.

Hi mermaid...I would absolutely love it if I didn't have to work! I would love to stay home and take care of my son and play with him! In fact I've been looking more and more for something I can do out of my house so I can do just that!

I dont think thats really the case with me. A day or two OFF from office really seem to be eternal bliss, but again i start feeling like something is missing from my life....I have been so much used to going to work. I am not a workaholic who is engrossed in work from 9 in the morning to 9 in the evening but going to work...where u really enjoy what you work is a pleasure in itself.... So i wont really say that "i would be happy if i dint need to work'....

I work as a software engineer and i come across lot of tricky stuff every passing day. Solving them is a real challenge and thats what i love about my work. The appreciation, remuneration and rewards are quite secondary. The best thing is whether you are satisfied with the work you do or not....If not you will always feel to skip work....

I would love it because I would have time to do things I don't have time for now such as gardening, travel, freelance writing, keeping grandkids, crafts and needlework, cooking and experimenting with new recipes, housework (lol), painting, home do-it-yourself projects and repairs, shopping, etc. I think I could find enough things to do to keep myself busy. I know I wouldn't miss WORK..lol. I have three years to go before retiring and I'm about ready to count down the days. I wish I was 30...but that isn't so. grins--have a wonderful day!

i retired at 43, traveled around, fished in exotic places and still got bored. i went back to work for someone where i was not a boss, i loved it, no pressures, 5am-6pm never bored, i started driving a cement truck how cool, anyway i just retired again 2 years ago only because i developed an few medical problems. some people just cant sit still. so now im fishing again but in my back yard.

woah max1950! you retired at 43!! I still have more or less 15 yrs to go before I get to that age. by my calculations, I dont get to retire by then. but I havent really been working that hard... hehehhe... Ive been "leisurely working" since I graduated college, hahaha, never really tried working for any company.. so I guess that will affect any decisions on when to "retire"..hahaha.. cheers!!

I wouldn't want to sit around idle. I think I would like to stay busy and be doing something productive with my time. If I wasn't working I would spend most of my time enjoying hobbies such as staying fit, reading, spending time with friends and family for example. But otherwise I would quite like to do some non-profitable work, such as volunteering time for charitable causes.

See, nobody is happy without work for a continous period of time but I know what type of work you are referring to...its work that pays our bills and so we need to slog it out Ideally I would have liked to work when, where, and how long I feel like it i.e. to say, I would enjoy my work more if it was not a compulsion for me...if I knew that I could just give it all up one day and walk off and I would still have enough money for myself...I think that kind of situation would have allowed me to enjoy my work more. If I did not work, then OK there are plenty of other things to do, beside housework...I could not have been at home for the entire day. I firmly believe that on a daily basis, we all need to interact with at least 10 people outside our home and family, to have our brain, mind and body in good shape.

"I firmly believe that on a daily basis, we all need to interact with at least 10 people outside our home and family, to have our brain, mind and body in good shape." It is exactly what I think too... my hubby doesn't understand at all which makes me so upset :-( because I just feel so depressed staying at home all the time... really all the time from MON - FRI... I have told him that when I'm bored home, I just wnat to be at some places where have people, noices, stuff to see etc but it doesn't mean I want to do something else, I think you know what I mean if you said that... :-( Thank you for sharing anyway!!!!

Hello mermaidivy, If I don't have to worry about money at all, I will definitely prefer to quit job and stay at home. I will do all the things that I love to do and missed to do because of working. But, I don't know how long it will last before I get bored. Knowing myself, I think I am better working rather than staying at home, doing nothing and spend money all the times.

I don't think so. I have to be doing something. Keeping active, contributing somehow. That is what can make life interesting.

I am sure everyone would be jumping all over that one to stay home and do what they want. But honestly the novelity of it wares off and you will want to go back to work. I have been off for over 3 years now and yes I enjoyed it at the beginning but I truly wanna go back to work now. Sad thing is I can't due to my injury.

To be honest i would love it.....but not for long......life can get too boring and also laziness will creep in.......i don't want to lead a lazy life i would rather work hard while i am young and keep enough for the future......so that i would have a great life while i am old.......so work hard party harder is the key for me......

that will be really great, i will just stay in my house ,watch television and listen to good music, and live the good life, but how can that be when in south africa, you have to work tirelessly for you to get good things, except you fall from heaven thats when you can retire at such a tender age

i think i would still want to work just to keep busy. If i was going to retire i would want plenty of money to go on vacations and buy new things. Yes, it would be nice if i could retire at 30 but i couldn't do everything i wanted to. Plus, i would probably get a little bored sometimes. lol

Oh I would be very happy that way, i could spend more time with my boyfriend, i would be able to do all of the reading and learn things that i havent had time to learn before, im going to college but there are a lot of classes that i would love to take but they have nothing to do with my major so i don't have anytime to take them and don't want to mess with my gpa, but if i didnt have to worry about a career i would learn Japanese fluently :) and it would be much easier to start a family if i didnt have to work as well

Oh absolutely!!! I hate to work!!! I would be so happy if money wasn't an issue and I never had to work another day in my life! If I didn't have to work, I would do a lot of volunteer work! I would love to be able to help others and really make a difference! I would also love to travel! I would probably combine the two and do a lot of volunteer tourism all over the world!

I think I won't be satisfied with my life. For me it is nice to just stay at home and wait for the money you will receive but then I find it not fulfilling. I was at home for more than ten months now, I gave birth eight months ago and I could say that I miss working because my son is growing now. If I have no son I would feel the same because I am a person who always want to sweat for every little thing I get. I mean there is sense in spending a money you know you worked hard for. I am a person who does not want to totally depend with my husband for all I need. He is the one supporting me and our son. I want to realize my self-worth so I would rather work until I reach 60 years old than retire early without having some proof that I have a "good and worthy" life. Even if there are some money coming my way I still want to work for sense of self-worth. That will make life more meaningful if you know how to stretch your back, arms and legs.

If I had the money and didnt have to work would be nice because then I could do whatever I wanted. I would like to maybe work off and on, maybe for a temp agency just to keep me busy every now and again.
