Reasons for staying with our current employer varies. It really depends on ones individuality. I am at the point where I am tempted to resign. But I know it will hard on my part to look for another job if I do resign. I wanted to be motivated to stay with my current job and I think posting this question and hearing different opinions can help me to be more positive and appreciative of what I have right now. It will really help me if I hear it straight from the myloters point of view.
Please speak up. What motivates you to stay with your current job?

I really like what I do. And my employer and co-workers are very cool people.
So all in all, I count myself blessed to be in a career that I enjoy and surrounded with people that I admire. Though, of course there are certain things that people say or do that irritates me sometimes (co-workers, of course). But I think that's just regular part of life and working.
Don't leave yet - just keep looking for another/alternate job. Just make sure you don't leave your current job without another job that's going to hire FOR SURE! And i'm sure it's not easy - but at the same time, don't you have bills to pay? mouths to feed? That should be your motivation in staying in this job while looking for a different one.
Good luck!

Hi Larish,
I think you are is some kind of stress, which could either be from your side or from your employer side. In a job there are only two kinds of motivation one is money and the next is your personal growth or we could call it as career. First of all you must identify what the real problem is. Sometimes, it could be just you and your feelings. If you are not feel comfortable at all with your job, then seek for another one, but don't resign until you find one or you will be in trouble. If the problem is from the employer side, then you need to talk to someone senior who will understand you and who has the capability to resolve you problems. I have changed my employer 4 times and now I am doing the same job which I was doing in my office by my own as a subcontractor. It all up to you. Think wise. Take care.

I am on Sales Department. We are marketing a new product in the market. We just launched last year June 2008. We are just on our first year. My superior has been asking us our sales but because the product we are handling is very new in the market, we need ample time for the promotion of the product. I already talk to them about this but they still insist of having sales production. You are right when you say that I am stress. Actually I am really in stress right now. Maybe because I am torn between having a sale and making my superior realize that we are still looking for the right market of our product. I am stress because i don't like what is going on. I am always on top and cannot accept the fact that I cannot sell our latest product. Thank you so much for your insights. It really helps me to rethink my situation.

At the moment, I am self-employed. And the reason for that is that I can not find other work, especially work that allows me to work around my college schedule. Before I got laid off, I was hanging on to my job because of the bad job market. Ironically, by the time the job market improves, my freelance writing may be bringing in so much that it would be a step back to go looking for a cubicle job.

I work for Fedex at the airport and as much as I sometimes hate it, I am part time and I get the following benefits:
-I get paid at least 17.5 hours a week (known as minimums) So, if i work 12 hours, I get 5.5 free hours.
-Starting pay is $11 and after 2 years I am at $13
-I get full time health benefits (vision, dental, and health).
-I get full time vacation benefits (2 weeks vacation, and 4 personal days) And one week worth of sick days too...
- I also receive tuition reimbursement for up to $3000 a year!
Although sometimes it can be a little stressful, and hectic (especially as a student), it is definitely worth it!
We just need to all be thankful for having jobs at the moment:)

Thank you for reminding me to consider the benefits I am getting from my employer. Aside from the salary that pays for all my bills, I also have health and life insurance for my family and retirement fund. Plus the laundry allowances, vitamins allowance I am getting. You are right when you started counting and appreciating the things you are benefiting from working.
I just hope I can still keep appreciating the things I am getting for a longer period. At times, when I am so down, I put aside the good things that are coming my way and will focus on impulsive decision.

I am receiving good pay with good benefits from my employer. My self esteem is very low for now because my effort on my job is not giving me good results. The reason I am feeling this way. Plus the fact that I didn't like the way my superior handle us.
Don't worry, you sound very young. I know you will find a better job - BETTER PAY soon. Thanks.

well, one very simple reason is because i am grateful that i still have a job and able to support myself to survive... for that, i am always grateful to God for His abundant blessings to me and my hubby... i think that reason alone is enough to keep me motivated and stay in my current job besides of having a good boss, nice environment to work and helpful co-workers... take care and have a nice day...

The main reason I stay with my job is the benefits. I have medical for a reasonable price and it is a good plan. I f I was not employed the cost would be 4 times higher or more. I work part time so I just bring in a little each payperiod but it does help for groceries, gas, etc. It is not a hard job, not very physical and the hours are really good compared to other jobs I could do. Compared to past jobs where I had to work holidays, nights and weekends, I am enjoying having the time off on those particular occassions. It is not that fullfilling but pays the bills and the benefits are covered so for right now it works for me. Also the lack of jobs out there right now are not exactly abundant.

There is only one reason why I am staying with my current job. That is my salary. If I look for another job, there is no assurance that my salary would be the same or even higher. My salary is not that big but I can afford to finance my sister in her studies. She is a 3rd year Nursing student in one of the universities here in our place. From tuition, miscellaneous, uniforms and almost all other needs in her studies, I am incharge of it. If I will resign, I am not the only one affected --- the whole family. My parents are jobless because they were advised by the doctor not to work anymore because of illnesses. I love my job although it's not what I am looking for. I learned a lot from it. Our problem there is the way we, the employees, are being managed. Many employees resigned because of their management style. Looking for job nowadays is very difficult. If you really wanted to resign, just make sure that at the time you resign, your next job is already there waiting for you. Have a nice day.

I am staying with my current employer because its hard to find a new job right now. Companies are laying off their employees, so its really hard to find a new one.I am not satisfied and happy with how my career is going on right now. But i would rather stick with this career right now and find a new one when the economy is doing well again.

I hate my job. But I stay with it for many of reasons. One im a parent and have to buy anything my son needs. He relies on me. It would be selfish of me if i didn't work to support him. TWo i like to have my own money so I can spend it however I want. SO if I want to go out for lunch thats not a problem. Three I like to stick to something for a while. I have been here for almost two years. Which is the longest job i have ever held. The top reason why i keep my job is there is no other jobs around me that are hiring. And if they say their hiring well its bull otherwise they would have called me by now. LOL!.

My current workplace doesn't have a strict discipline. I'm talking about what time I need to get in or leave the office. And also my colleagues and boss are all friendly and nice. I am happy to work there. That whats motivate me the most.
You can looking for other job then, after you got one then it won't be so hard to resign. Good luck larish.

Ever since the management of the company where I work changed, lots of policies have also changed. I'm really not satisfied with the company anymore, but I stay because I haven't found a better job yet. I can't just let go of my present job and hope to find another one. I want to make sure that I get accepted at another job first before resigning from my current job.

The relationship I have wit my clients is what motivates me. I like dealing with people. I am in the service industry and even though sometimes it can be tiring at the end of a long day, knowing that I was able to help someone is inspiring. We all need money to get material things we want in life...so getting paid in a way that would allow you to live comfotably is great too

because for the moment until the economic crisis affecting the USA where I am from gets better there is no other job for me if I get fired, laid off or... "resign on my own terms" where else where I will find another job in place of that one? i won't so basically I am trying to hang onto the job I have right now for as long as possible hoping for the best outcome but also expecting the worse once the economy situation gets better and better however there will be a marked rise in jobs being applied for, new hires etc... but that could happen in say 5 years at the most... maybe longer?

Like you I know it would be hard for me to find other job if I quite this one. It took me soooooooooooooooo long to find a perament job in my field after I graduated from college and I can't afford to wait 2 years to fine a job. I dont think it would take me quite as long as that seeing that I have exiperence now but just the thought off having to be depended on my parents again for any amount of time is not good.
I also feel for one of my bosses if I quite. She is really nice and needs help. She(and the fact that I need a paycheck)is what is keeping me here. But I dont know how much longer I can last with the attitude of my other boss.

Honestly speaking, I only stay with my current job because it's so hard to look for another one. It's not that I don't like what I do, it's just that I'm not contented with my work, I often find myself wanting more, I want a job that I can find fulfillment.. Plus my current job doesn't pay much, but I must admit it is a very stable job. I am planning on looking for a new job if the economy permits it. hehe. I'm crossing my fingers that I would soon find that perfect job for me.
